MIC test of 16 chemotherapeutic agents was performed on 24 isolates of Edwardsiella tarda collected from flounders. They revealed resistance against combinations of ampicillin, amoxicillin, erythromycin, flumequine, doxycycline(DOXY), nalidixic acid, novobiocin, oxolinic acid, oxytetracycline(OTC), thiamphenicol(TP) and sulfonamide. Two strains carried transferable R plasmid encoding Otc Kanamycin Tp and Otc chloramphenicol Doxy Tetracycline Tp, respectively. The R plasmids were not similar each other on the basis of their digestion pattern of restriction endonuclease, suggesting distribution of different transferable R plasmid among E. tarda from flounders.
$Fe_2O_3/TiO_2$ nanocomposite were successfully synthesized by co-precipitation method using $Fe(NO_3)_3{\cdot}9H_2O$ and $Ti(SO_4)_2$ as raw materials. Structural and textural features of the mixed oxide samples were characterized by X-ray diffractometer, field emission scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray. The effects of initial concentration of oxytetracycline (OTC), different competitive ions and organics on the photocatalytic degradation rate of OTC by the $Fe_2O_3/TiO_2$ nanocomposite were analyzed under UV and visible light irradiation. The results indicate that the optimized initial concentration of OTC was 50 mg/L to achieve the best photocatalytic efficiency. $Cu^{2+}$, $NH_4{^+}$, $C_3H_8O$ and EDTA in the aqueous suspension were found to suppress the degradation rate of OTC, whereas the effect of $NO_3{^-}$ and $H_2C_2O_4$ can be ignored.
Chestnut(Castanea crenata) were trunk-injected by two methods to check the changes around the injection wound. In September 1993, high concentration of oxytetracycline(OTC) was injected through the injection wound of 1cm diameter and low concentration of OTC through 0.5cm diameter. Trunk diameter of injected trees ranged from 10cm to 20cm. All trees were in their vigorous conditions. Tree reaction was examined in June, 1994. None of them showed any sign of decay by the time. However, under the bark, sapwood was remarkably discolored. But, more severe discoloration was found in 1cm-injection wound than in 0.5cm one. Sapwood of some trees split from the injection wound, and the split was longer in 1cm-injection wounded trees than in 0.5cm trees. From the split, callus grew out and the split was closing. In this kind of trunk injection, the damage was more severe in 1cm-injection wound than in 0.5cm-injection wound.

Three commercial exfoliating reagents, product A (main components: citric acid and vitamin C), B (herb) and C (nicotinamide), were used to study their exfoliation effect on abalone, Haliotis discus hannai from the substrate. The exfoliating reagents A, B, C and oxytetracycline (OTC, control) of 6-31.25 g/L and 12-37.5 g/L exfoliated 81.2-84.8% and 90.3-95% of abalone, respectively. Post-treatment recovery time for the abalone was similar for all the reagents except product C. Recovery period for the abalone immersed in OTC for 5-20 second was slightly shorter than the reagents A, B and C; however, no mortality was observed in any group except with the reagents B (concentration: 20 g/L, immersion time: 5 sec) and C (12 g/L, 10 and 20 sec) that showed negligible mortality of 3.3%. Higher concentration and longer treatment with the reagents resulted in longer recovery time of the detached abalone. Although abalone exposed to the reagents needs slightly longer time to recover than that to OTC, the exfoliation effect is much similar. These results indicate that the commercial exfoliating reagents can replace OTC to detach abalone, though they need to be cautiously handled.
Beef, pork and chicken on the market were analyzed for determination of tetracyclines residue and decomposition of tetracyclines by heating were studied. The content of oxytetracycline was trace in chicken A, 0.09 mg/kg in C and trace in beef C, pork A and B, but in the other samples was not detected oxytetracycline. Chlortetracycline residue was 0.14, 0.02 and 0.01 mg/kg in chicken A, C and beef B respectively. In HPLC analysis, two peaks of 8.1 and 9.0 min of retention time were found from beef and pork and expected to be component of meat, and because of same retention time, the one of 9.0 min interrupted determination of tetracycline. But those were not found in chicken, therefore the residue was 0.01 mg/kg in sample A. The residue were degradated rapidly by heating of roast, but slightly by that of boiling.

Jujube witches' broom (JWB) disease is a high-risk plant disease that occurred on and devastated jujube orchards throughout South Korea in the 1950s. Recently, as the jujube cultivation area has been significantly increased nationwide, we investigated the disease in jujube orchards in the Boeun region to obtain basic information for proactively evaluating the risk of JWB outbreaks from 2017 to 2019. A field trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of the trunk injection of Sungbocycline (a. i. oxytetracycline calcium alkyl trimethyl ammonium 17%, OTC). The incidence of JWB disease was very low in Boeun, but it was gradually increased mainly in the area and on the farms where it had occurred previously. The trunk injection with OTC was most effective in the early stages of growth. However, even though the trees were treated with OTC, disease symptoms appeared in other healthy branches in severely affected trees. When the tree was first injected with OTC in June, the control efficacy of second injection was higher one month after the first injection than five months. These results suggest that early diagnosis based on various symptoms and early control based on them can be very effective in preventing JWB disease in advance and increasing control efficacy.

It is reported that abalone, Haliotis discus hannai, was detached from shelters by commercial oxytetracycline (OTC) dissolved in hydrochloric acid (HCl). In the present study, we investigated the exfoliation effect of fouling abalone by organic acids instead of OTC or HCl. Organic acids (malic acid, citric acid, lactic acid and formic acid) of pH 2.6 and pH 2.1-2.3 exfoliated over 67.6% and 91.7% of abalone, respectively; while OTC of pH 2.6 and pH 2.1-2.3 exfoliated 25.9% and over 74.1% of abalone, respectively. These results indicate that the exfoliation effect of organic acid is better than that of OTC dissolved in HCl at the same pH. However, a lower pH and longer treatment of organic acids resulted in delayed recovery of the detached abalone; abalone immersed in pH 2.3 for 10 second was recovered within 5 min, but took 12 min to recover after 30 second immersion. Moreover, recovery period for abalone exposed to pH 2.1 for 30 second was at least 15 min 45 second. In conclusion, though acids need to be cautiously handled, organic acids may be a better candidate to detach abalone instead of OTC or HCl.

The presence of antibiotics in the wastewater from livestock farm due to its over-application should be concerned because they could change microbial ecology, increase the proliferation of antibiotic resistant pathogens, provoke toxic effect on aquatic species. In addition, these antibiotics can cause negative effect on the performance of biological wastewater treatment due to its antibacterial properties. In this study, our aim is to evaluate the effect of some common used antibiotic in Korea piggery farm such as oxytetracycline (OTC) to nitrification efficiency as well as organic compounds removal rate in biological system for treating piggery wastwater. The experiment was conducted in aeration batch reactor and lab-scale $A_2/O$(Anoxic-Anoxic-Oxic) system. From this study, it would be suggested that the piggery wastewater characterization should be examined in order to assess the fraction of common used antibiotics. The alternative treatment processes for piggery wastewater having high-strength antibiotics might be suggested in the future work.
The witches' broom disease of Paulownia tomentosa (Thunb.) Steud with which mycoplasmalike organisms are associated is widespread throughout Korea and poses serious threat to the cultivation of paulownia. Attempt was made to investigate the feasibility of field control of the disease with oxytetracycline hydrochloride (OTC). A total of 84 paulownia trees (6 year-old, DBH: 10-15cm) exhibiting severe symptoms of witches' broom were selected and treated during March to September. Solution of 1-10g of OTC dissolved in 0.12.0 of water was transfused into infected trees with gravity flow method from a dark-brown colored plastic reservoir (11 volume) through plastic tubes (1.2m long) connected to 2-4 holes (5 mm in diameter and 4-5cm in depth) bored in the basal part of the tree trunks (Fig. 1 and 2). Of 60 diseased paulownia trees injected with 2g of OTC in 0.1-2.0l of water during May to September, 1979, 58 trees resulted in complete remission of symptom development and resumption of healthy new growth at least up to September, 1980 when the last observation of the effect of OTC treatment for this experiment was made. The rest of two trees were dead probably due to too severe infection. Of 24 paulownia trees treated in March and April, 1979 complete remission of symptom development was obtained with 8 trees, and nine trees were partially prevented from symptom development in the following season. The remaining 7 trees were dead due to failure in uptake of OTC and partly because the trees were in too far advanced stage of infection. Application of highly concentrated solution of 2g of OTC dissolved in 0.1-0.2l of water per tree was just as effective as the 2g/1-2l treatment. Injection of 2g/1-2l required 3-4 days while treatment of 2g/0.1-0.2l reduced the time for injecting one tree down to less than 24 hrs. The result of this experiment demonstrates that basal trunk injection of 2g OTC/0.1-0.2l/tree is feasible for field control of paulownia witches' broom, provided that tree injection is performed in actively growing season (May-September) and at the initial stage of disease development.
Pharmaceutical wastewater effluents are well known for their difficult elimination by traditional biotreatment methods and their important contribution to environmental pollution due to its fluctuating and recalcitrant nature. OTC is one of the nonbiodegradable antibiotics that makes antibiotic-resistant, so it can make be high risk for environment. NZVI can be a good choice for removal of OTC in aqueous solution. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the amounts of NZVI and OTC to be used at pH 3 and under 200 W, UV-A irradiation. The responses were removal percent of absorption at 290 and 348 nm, TOC and COD of OTC. In the optimum condition, Linear model was performed 155 ppm of OTC were removed by 1000 ppm NZVI after 6.5 hours and the removal efficiency of absorption at 290 and 348 nm, TOC and COD were 87, 95, 85 and 89 percent, respectively. In the similar process, there is no organic compound after 14 hours. The parameters ORP, DO and pH were investigated for 6:30 hours to study the type of NZVI reaction in process. In the beginning of reaction, oxidation was the dominant reaction after 3 hours, photocatalytic reaction was remarkable. The mechanism of OTC degradation is proposed by HPLC/ESI-MS and four by products were found. Also the rate constants (first order kinetic chain reaction model) were 0.0099, 0.0021, 0.0010, 0.0049 and $0.0074min^{-1}$, respectively.
