  • Background To overcome the potential drawbacks of a short half-life and dose-related adverse effects of using active transforming growth factor-beta 1 for cartilage engineering, a cell-mediated latent growth factor activation strategy was developed incorporating latent transforming growth factor-${\beta}$1 (LTGF) into an electrospun poly(L-lactide) scaffold. Methods The electrospun scaffold was surface modified with NH3 plasma and biofunctionalised with LTGF to produce both random and orientated biofunctionalised electrospun scaffolds. Scaffold surface chemical analysis and growth factor bioavailability assays were performed. In vitro biocompatibility and human nasal chondrocyte gene expression with these biofunctionalised electrospun scaffold templates were assessed. In vivo chondrogenic activity and chondrocyte gene expression were evaluated in athymic rats. Results Chemical analysis demonstrated that LTGF anchored to the scaffolds was available for enzymatic, chemical and cell activation. The biofunctionalised scaffolds were non-toxic. Gene expression suggested chondrocyte re-differentiation after 14 days in culture. By 6 weeks, the implanted biofunctionalised scaffolds had induced highly passaged chondrocytes to re-express Col2A1 and produce type II collagen. Conclusions We have demonstrated a proof of concept for cell-mediated activation of anchored growth factors using a novel biofunctionalised scaffold in cartilage engineering. This presents a platform for development of protein delivery systems and for tissue engineering.

  • Purpose: This study purposed to supply basic data for nursing intervention plan for middle-aged women healthcare and for finding solutions to nursing problems through understanding middle-aged women's depression, and to examine whether middle-aged women's depression is related with self-concept, self-efficacy, physical condition and social support. Method: The subjects were 200 middle-aged women aged between 35 and 60 and living in Daejon city and K city in Chungcheongnam-do, and the questionnaire survey was conducted from the 15th of August to the 18th of September in 2003 using a structured questionnaire. Collected data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA. Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. Result: Middle- aged women's depression was found to be in a negative correlation at a statistically significant level with self-concept (r=-.679, p=0.000), self-efficacy(r=-.489, p= 0.000), physical condition(r=-.650, p=0.000) and social support(r=-.526, p=0.000). The most significant variables of middle-aged women's depression was self-concept(46.2%). Combining with physical condition(13.2%) and self-efficacy(0.9%), the three variables together explained 60.3% of middle-aged women's depression. Conclusion: The results show that middle-aged women's depression is closely related with self-concept, self-efficacy and physical condition. Thus this study suggests that the goal of nursing intervention for middle-aged women to overcome depression should be to help them to have positive self-concept, high self-efficacy and sound physical condition.

  • Mn - Zn Ferrite has the natural characteristics of incongruent melting and the zinc oxide evaporation while the crystal is being grown. As a result of these, it comes into existence to be a non-uniform distribution of cations along the crystal growth axis and also Pt particles are usually precipitated into the crystals in Bridgman method since the melt zone is maintained for a long time in the crucible. These have bad effects on the magnetic properties of ferrites. But, to overcome these faults and then acquire the better single crystals. new modified growth method was developed and the growth factors were investigated as following: melt height in the crucible, surface tension and density of melt, the behavior of melt at interface, the shapes of crucible and solid -liquid interface, powder feeding rate, and the crystal growing speed. In additon, when we analyzed the compositional fluctuations of grown crystals, they were supressed within 1.5 mol% $Fe_20_3$, 2 mol% MnO, ZnO respectively with comparing to initial composition of crystal and the microstructures of crystals on the(110) plane were observed by optical microscope through the chemical etching technique and the magnetic properties were determined.

  • In this paper, we propose a two-dimensional interleaving structure of holographic digital data storage. In this storage, many of the digital binary data are recorded, retrieved and processed in a two-dimensional data image (1000$\times$1000 bits). Therefore, burst errors in this digital device also have two-dimensional characteristics and it is required to use effective two-dimensional interleaving to overcome them. Bits of every code word should be distributed in an equilateral triangular lattice structure when they are scattered considering the random shape and occurrence of burst errors. We deal with factors and algorithm to construct this interleaving structure of equilateral triangular lattice.

  • The design of a 3.2 Gb/s serial link receiver in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process is presented. The major factors limiting the performance of high-speed links are transmission channel bandwidth, timing uncertainty. The design uses a multi-level signaling(4-PAM) to overcome these problems. Moreover, to increase data bit-rate and lower BER, we designed this circuit by using a current mode amplifier, Current-mode Logic(CML) sampling latches. The 4-PAM receiver achieves 3.2 Gb/s and BER is less than $1.0\;{\times}\;10^{-12}$. The $0.5\;{\times}\;0.6\;mm^2$ chip consumes 49 mA at 3.2 Gb/s from a 1.8-V supply.

  • Hydrogen, which can be produced from abundant and widely distributed renewable energy resources, seems to be a promising candidate for solving the concerns for improving energy security, urban air pollution, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The two primary motivating factors for hydrogen economy are fossil fuel supply limitations and concerns about global warming. But the safety issues associated with hydrogen economy need to be investigated and fully understood before being considered as a future energy source. Limited operating experience with hydrogen energy systems in consumer environments is recognised as a significant barrier to the implementation of hydrogen economy. To prevent unnecessary restrictions on emerging codes, standards and local regulations, safety policies based on real hazards should be developed. This article studies briefly the direct impact-distances from hazard events such as hydrogen release and jet fire, and damage levels from hydrogen gas explosion in a confined space. Based on the direct impact-distances indicated in the accident scenarios and consumer environments in Korea, the safety policies, which are related to hydrogen filling station, hydrogen fuel cell car, portable fuel cell, domestic fuel cells, and hydrogen town, are suggested to implement hydrogen economy. To apply the safety policies and overcome the disadvantages of prescriptive risk management, which is setting guidance in great detail to management well known risk but is not covering unidentified risk, hybrid risk management model is also proposed.

  • Purpose - This study has been conducted based on the assumption that technology acceptance for the traditional markets introduce Augmented Reality Technology system into traditional markets in order to increase the influence on consumer purchasing intention. The Augmented Reality Technology system on this study has been carried out by a modeling study based on Davis(1989)'s Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Research design, data, and methodology - Before starting the research, we inquired previous researches and defined the basic concept for each research with applying some parts of them. By doing this, we were able to find out if the users had perceived ease of use and the feeling of usefulness for the technology acceptance in using traditional markets. As a result, we measured how efficiently those factors could have an influence on traditional market visit. Moreover, we analyzed the result with actual proofs, assuming that such a visiting intention would affect consumers purchasing intention Results - To summarize the results, first, we have found that the necessity for augmented reality technology for traditional markets and its convenience in use can have a positive effect on visiting traditional markets. Second, we have discovered that the feeling of easiness in use, technological usefulness, and its visiting intention for Augmented Reality Technology can positively influence on the users' purchasing intention. Conclusions - By taking advantage of the research results from this study, the technological acceptance for the traditional markets suggests not only a positive impact on the users' visiting traditional markets but also an influence on the users' purchasing intention for the goods that are sold in the traditional markets. The weak point of this study is that it did not have sufficient theoretical explanation for technological acceptance in traditional markets, and it also lacked theoretical research to apply Augmented Reality Technology to the distribution industry. In order to overcome these drawbacks, we have to conduct thoughtful empirical analysis and research. Lastly, we insist that we will have to carefully verify reliability for the questionnaire data collected by the Internet survey panels in the future.

  • Just as traditional markets nationwide, traditional markets in Jeju area also face a crisis due to expansion of new distribution channel and price competitiveness of large distribution companies. There are various support programs currently being carried out to prevent all risk factors of the traditional markets as government policies. But, these programs have failed to bring a positive change due to lack of specialized products of the traditional market, lack of systematic marketing and customer management, lack of market vendors' consciousness reformation. The purpose of this study is to prepare political measures to promote the revitalization of traditional markets in Jeju area and overcome these limits. To achieve this, this study analyzed the conditions of traditional markets in Jeju area and presented the specialization of items and service for each traditional market, establishment of growth strategies in connection with tourist industry and reinforcement of marketing competitiveness as measures to create a synergy effect.

  • In this paper,we design a verifier for unconstrained handwritten numerals using structural feature analysis, and use it as a comnination algorithm for multiple recognizers. The existing combination algorithms mainly use learnings, statistical methods,or probabilistic methods without considering structural features of numerals. That is why they cannot recognize some numerals which human can identify clearly. To overcome the shortcomings,we design one-to-one verifiers which compare and analyze the relative structural features between frequently confused numeral pairs, and apply them to combine multiple recongnizers.Structural features for verification consist of contour, direction al chain code, polygonal approximation, and zero crossing number of horizontal/vertical projections. We gained a 97.95% reliability with CENPARMI numeral data, and showed that some misconceived factors generated from typical combination algorithms can be removed.

  • As the use of Information Technology is increasing, various kinds of IT service vendor proliferate. And most executives are trying to expand their field to online world. As the emphasis on Information Technology is inevitable, executives want to evaluate the service level they receive from IT service vendor. But. there's not yet the proper evaluation system for IT service. The evaluation systems like CMM, SPICE are process-focused. They don't give a look on the final product delivered to customer. On the other hand, the one that evaluate the customer satisfaction like ACSI, NCSI are too over-focused that they can't express the specific characteristics on the subjects that are deemed to evaluate. The focus is blurred. To overcome these limitations of existing framework, and to increase the value of evaluation, this study presents the evaluation system of IT service (afterwards, named as 'The new evaluation system') that derives process factors from IT service CMM, and evaluate customer satisfaction of IT service. Finally, the model was applied to the actual case to examine the practicality of the framework.
