Purpose: To identify the relationship of job stress with job satisfaction and organizational commitment of nurses. Method: The subjects were 288 nurses working in two hospitals in Kyong Ki Island. The study was conducted from August to October 2007. The data was collected by questionnaires and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: The mean score of job stress was $2.86{\pm}.75$ (total of 4 points), mean score job satisfaction score was $2.98{\pm}.33$ (total of 5 points), and mean organizational commitment score was $3.14{\pm}.34$ (total of 5 points). Concerning sub factors, limited medical care was highest and conflicts with the doctors was lowest. The level of job stress was significantly different according to age, marital status, religion, educational status, and type of employment. The level of job satisfaction was significantly different according to type of employment and working style. Job stress and job satisfaction were significantly correlated. Conclusion: It may be necessary further to develop job stress management programs to productively address job stress of nurses.
Purpose: This study aimed to explore the constructs and context of hospital nurses' organizational silence. Methods: In-depth interviews were conducted with 17 nurses in small-middle general hospitals as well as big university hospitals. We then derived the key themes using grounded theory method. Results: Nine themes and 30 sub-themes were derived: "Willing to be recognized for performance rather than saying", "Getting used to the hard-to-speak climate", "Face the reality that does not change when said", "Complicated situation that prevents self-regulating decision-making", "Conflicts that are difficult to confront", "Unfair responsibilities that I want to evade", "Leaders who don't support me", and "Being blocked in communication". Consequently, the nurses learned to adopt a climate of silence and "learned organizational silence" behavior. They experienced that prosocial silence was essential for obtaining approval as a member of the group, and defensive silence for protecting themselves in the hierarchical structure and unfair responsibilities. Acquiescent silence originated from a futile relationship with their supervisors, one-way communications, and the unsupportive management system, in which three types of silence appeared sequentially or in combination with each other. Conclusion: Based on these results, nursing managers should identify the context of nurses' organizational silence and should lessen these silence behaviors.
This study proposes a Web Decision Support System (DSS) as a new approach to resolving conflicts arising at the interface of production and marketing which have traditionally been in conflict with each other. Many researchers studied on the types and resolution mechanisms of conflicts among various organizations and organizational units. However, as global and distributed operations of firms based on the Internet become a commonplace business landscape, these conflict resolution mechanisms are found very difficult to be directly applied. From this perspective, the Web DSS proposed in this study can be claimed to be appropriate for the Internet-based distributed business operations. The current related literature on the production-marketing interface shows that the possible use of the Web DSS approaches has little been studied in spite of the decent amount of research conducted on the coordination of decision making between the two functions. This paper develops the architecture of the Web DSS and demonstrates its effectiveness based on the implementation results.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate conflicts and the experiences of conflict resolution of hospital nurses. Methods: This qualitative study used phenomenological methodology. The research participants were 8 nurses of C hospital. Data were collected through in-depth individual interviews from November 2016 to February 2017. The data analysis method was based on Colaizzi's approach. Results: The study results showed that the experiences of nurses consisted of 15 themes and 6 theme clusters: 1) Ambiguous role, 2) Recognizing lack of competence, 3) Difficulty maintaining relationships, 4) Unsatisfactory work environment, 5) Efforts to resolve conflicts, and 6) Conflict resolution process through labor union. Conclusion: The findings of this study recommend that hospital organizations and managers should pay attention to improving the work environment and organizational culture of members. The results of the present study can improve the understanding of various aspects of the daily life of hospital nurses.
This paper examined seemingly well-working compromises in identity construction, questioning whether the compromises could function only nominally in practice. The literature has paid attention to the conflicts which end up functionally sense-making, through either unilaterally enforced or mutually assimilated compromises. In contrast, this paper's analysis of Super Tuscan wines under the Italian government's quality regulation illustrated that the compromises between wineries and classification systems do not work well and make the classification systems meaningless in the end. This study thus argued that compromises in identity construction do not always result in functionally sense-making outcomes: they could be only nominal. This study suggested that idiosyncratic institutional contexts, such as weak organizational legacy, affect the results of identity construction in functional terms. At last, the theoretical and practical implications both in organization and management of this study were well discussed.
The purpose of this study is to investigate effects of arbitration in organizational performances by means of literature review. The contents of the study were theoretical studies on the role of intangible power in the organization. By mediating compliance and repulsion, it is intended to reduce conflicts and increase work commitment, which in turn will increase productivity and increase employee self-esteem, and help improve corporate image over the long term. Factors such as the contents of professional power, the content of referent power, the importance and contents of informational power as well as the importance of arbitration were studied. It is found that when arbitration is effective, it can increase work commitment and improve the productivity of the enterprise.
Media industry is attempting various types of strategic innovation in the content and organization as they enter transition period. However, previous research has casually treated the organizational culture from the management and realized that cognitive/cultural differences between the specific departments yield conflicts. This means the researchers explored less on the decision-making process with the conflict between sub-groups and constituent in the organization. Our study reviewed the most positive method to achieve the innovation outcome through the conflict management within the organization based on the behavioral theory of the firm and applied computer simulation model for analysis to construct the quantitative scenario and infer the result. Conflict always found while media organization experiences innovation within the groups. However, in the long term, securing the independence through the certain state of 'anarchy' which possibly lead consensus implies significance rather to comprise collegiate system for unilateral control. In specific, this study explored the issues in 'conflict management' that has been evaded in media organization research through NK simulation model.
This study empirically analyzed the effects of Emotional Intelligence and work-family conflict on organizational effectiveness such as job performance and turnover in the advertising industry. Analysis results showed that emotional intelligence a significant impact in part on job performance and turnover intention. In particular, the more use of emotion is higher job performance, and the more regulation of emotion is lower turnover intention. Second, work-family conflict is proved on a partially significant impact on organizational effectiveness, and especially family conflicts caused by works was found to increase the degree of turnover. The results of this study suggest that the need for the establishment of appropriate systems and organizational culture which can increase emotional intelligence and reduce family conflict for performance and human resource management of the organization.

Even though current firms achieve organizational innovation with diverse workforce, previous studies on the relationship between workforce diversity and firm innovation revealed mixed results. To explain these inconsistent findings, this study examines the contradictory aspects of diversity, and divides innovative performance as exploitative and exploratory innovation. In particular, the main focus of this study is age diversity and firm innovation, since most Korean firms suffer from inter-generational conflicts. In addition, this study explores the moderating role of cohesive and innovative culture as the strong norms within the organization. The HCCP data was used to test these hypotheses. As predicted, age diversity negatively influences exploitative innovation, and positively affects exploratory innovation. However, the moderating role of cohesive culture was not statistically significant. Conversely, innovative culture strengthens the positive relationship between them.
This study is a descriptive research study to identify the role conflicts, positive psychological capital, organizational effectiveness, and factors affecting organizational effectiveness of nurses in small hospitals. The subjects of the study were nurses working in three small and medium-sized hospitals located in A city and 255 copies were used for final data analysis. The results showed that the roles of role conflict, isolation, role ambiguity, and resource shortage had a significant negative effect on organizational effectiveness. Role ambiguity and resource shortage of role conflict were significant (-) on positive psychological capital. Positive optimism, positive self efficacy, hope and optimism have a positive (+) effect on organizational effectiveness. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop a variety of programs to reduce role conflict and demonstrate positive psychological capital in order to improve the organizational effectiveness of nurses in small and medium-sized hospitals.
