  • Bayes estimation of parameters is considered for two independent exponential distributions with ordered means. Order restricted Bayes estimators for means are obtained with respect to inverted gamma, noninformative prior and uniform prior distributions, and their asymptotic properties are established. It is shown that the maximum likelihood estimator, restricted maximum likelihood estimator, unrestricted Bayes estimator, and restricted Bayes estimator of the mean are all consistent and have the same limiting distribution. These estimators are compared with the corresponding unrestricted Bayes estimators by Monte Carlo simulation.

  • In the study of the isotonic regression problem, several procedures for testing the homogeneity of a normal mean vector versus order restricted alternatives have been proposed since Barlow's trial(1972). In this paper, we consider the problem of testing the equality of two order restricted normal mean vectors based on the likelihood ratio principle.

  • Let 𝔽 be a commutative ring. A restricted skew polynomial extension over 𝔽 is a class of iterated skew polynomial 𝔽-algebras which include well-known quantized algebras such as the quantum algebra Uq(𝔰𝔩2), Weyl algebra, etc. Here we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition in order to be restricted skew polynomial extensions over 𝔽. We also introduce a restricted Poisson polynomial extension which is a class of iterated Poisson polynomial algebras and observe that a restricted Poisson polynomial extension appears as semiclassical limits of restricted skew polynomial extensions. Moreover, we obtain usual as well as unusual quantized algebras of the same Poisson algebra as applications.

  • Restricted Access Window (RAW) has been designed to improve power saving efficiency by reducing collisions of contending stations in the IEEE 802.11ah Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). We conduct simulations in order to observe the stations' operations influencing the lengths of the Restricted Access Window (RAW). From the observation, we consider how to adjust the stations' operations for proper RAW managements.

  • Classification of subjects with unknown distribution in small sample size setup may involve order-restricted constraints in multivariate parameter setups. Those problems makes optimality of conventional likelihood ratio based statistical inferences not feasible. Fortunately, Roy (1953) introduced union-intersection principle(UIP) which provides an alternative avenue. Redescending M-estimator along with that principle yields a considerably appropriate robust testing procedure. Furthermore, conditionally distribution-free test based upon exact permutation theory is used to generate p-values, even in small sample. Applications of this method are illustrated in simulated data and read data example (Lobenhofer et al., 2002)

  • This paper considers the reliability estimation of a two-component shared-load system based on Freund model. Maximum likelihood estimator, order restricted maximum likelihood estimator and uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator of the reliability function for the system are obtained. Performance of three estimators for moderate sample sizes is studied by simulation.

  • Two new types of positive biasedness, which are closely related to Type III positive biasedness (Yanagimoto and Sibuya, 1972), are proposed. We call these near Type III positive biasedness. Though no implication between Type II and near Type III biasedness exists, near Type III seems to be less restrictive than Type II biasedness. Constrained maximum likelihood estimates of distribution functions under near Type III positive bisedness are obtained. The likelihood ratio tests of symmetry against new positive biasedness restrictions are proposed. A small simulation study is conducted to compare the performance of the tests.

  • Testing of order-restricted alternative hypothesis in $2{\times}k$ contingency tables can be applied to various fields of medicine, sociology, and business administration. Most testing methods have been developed based on a large sample theory. In the case of a small sample size or unbalanced sample size, the Type I error rate of the testing method (based on a large sample theory) is very different from the target point of 5%. In this paper, the exact testing method is introduced in regards to the testing of an order-restricted alternative hypothesis in categorical data (particularly if a small sample size or extreme unbalanced data). Power and exact p-value are calculated, respectively.

  • Draper and Lawrence (1965a) have given mixture designs for three factors when all the mixture components can vary on the entire factor space so that the region of interest is an equilateral triangle in two dimensions. In this paper their work is extended to the cases when the region of interest is an echelon, parallelogram, pentagon or hexagon, because of the restirctions imposed on some or all of the mixture components. The principles used in the choice of appropriate designs are those originally introduced by Box and Draper(1959). It is assumed that a response surface equation of first order is fitted, but there is a possibility of bias error due to presence of second order terms in the true model. Minimum bias designs for several cases of restricted regions of interest are illustrated.

  • In this paper, we present a restricted tabu search(RTS) algorithm that schedules jobs on identical parallel machines in order to minimize the maximum lateness of jobs. Jobs have release times and due dates. Also, sequence-dependent setup times exist between jobs. The RTS algorithm consists of two main parts. The first part is the MATCS(Modified Apparent Tardiness Cost with Setups) rule that provides an efficient initial schedule for the RTS. The second part is a search heuristic that employs a restricted neighborhood generation scheme with the elimination of non-efficient job moves in finding the best neighborhood schedule. The search heuristic reduces the tabu search effort greatly while obtaining the final schedules of good quality. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm gives better solutions quickly than the existing heuristic algorithms such as the RHP(Rolling Horizon Procedure) heuristic, the basic tabu search, and simulated annealing.
