  • This study is to investigate the application of concrete with crushed sand on site. As a result, it is showed that the combined sand mixed with sea sand is very desirable for obtaining workability and strength of concrete, and the optimal replacement percentage of crushed sand is 50% with sea sand. After all, the crushed sand could be sufficiently used as a fine aggregate for concrete in the aspect of economical efficiency and quality, but the particle shape and microsand passing No.200 sieve should be firstly improved for increasing workability of concrete on site.

  • An equipment is subject to shocks which occur randomly according to a Poisson process. The equipment fails when the total cumulative damage reaches a certain prescribed level. An optimal preventive replacement policy is presented when the level of cumulative damage cannot be checked. Renewal theory is used to obtain the results and a case example is presented.

  • This study was performed to control the thermal crack of the mat footing slab in the multi-purposed buildings. In this study, we executed the mixing design of concrete to satisfy the workability and the quality according to the site conditions. And, we evaluated quantitatively about the possibility of thermal crack by using hydration heat analysis system. Finally, we proposed the optimal mixing conditions, curing methods and curing period which all factors are considered. As a result, the optimal mixing conditions were : W/B 41%, unit binder 375kgf/$\textrm{m}^3$, FA replacement ratio 20%. Lowest thermal stress was 22.0kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and at that time thermal crack index was over 1.5, when the coefficient of thermal conductivity was lowest among the curing conditions. And, the total curing time was estimated at 6.7 days according to curing steps.

  • In this paper we present a Bayesian approach for determining an optimal maintenance policy following the expiration of warranty for a repairable system. We consider two types of warranty policies : non-renewing free replacement warranty (NFRW) and non-renewing pro-rata warranty (NPRW). The mathematical formula of the expected cost rate per unit time is obtained for NFRW and NPRW, respectively. When the failure time is Weibull distribution with uncertain parameters, a Bayesian approach is established to formally express and update the uncertain parameters for determining an optimal maintenance policy. We illustrate the use of our approach with simulated data.

  • This paper considers a repairable system, which is maintained preventively at periodic times and is minimally repaired at each failure. Most preventive maintenance policies for such repairable systems assume that the cost of minimal repair is constant regardless of its age at failure. However, it is more practical to consider the situations where the cost of minimal repair is dependent not only on its age at failue, but also on the number of preventive maintenance carried out prior to its failure. We consider the preventive maintenance carried out prior to its failure. We consider the preventive maintenance policy with age-dependent minimal repair cost. The optimal policies which minimize the expected cost rate over an infinite time span are discussed. We obtain the optimal period and number of preventive maintenance prior to replacement of the system.

  • In the present research, a new bending system using a segmented vacuum chuck for Stressed Mirror Polishing (SMP) is developed. SMP is a special fabrication method for thin aspheric mirrors, where simple flat or spherical fabrication is applied while a mirror blank is deflected. Since a mirror blank is usually glued to a bending fixture in the conventional SMP process, there are drawbacks such as long curing time, inconvenience of mirror replacement, risk of mirror breakage, and stress concentration near the glued area. To resolve the drawbacks, a new bending system is designed to effectively hold a mirror blank by vacuum. For the developed bending system, the optimal bending load to achieve the designated mirror deflection is found by finite element analysis and an optimization algorithm. With the measurement results of the deflected mirror surfaces with the optimal bending loads, the feasibility of the developed bending system is investigated. As a result, it is shown that the bending system is appropriate for the SMP process.

  • Consider a failure model for a stochastic system. A shock is any perturbation to the system which causes a random amount of damage to the system. Any of the shocks can cause the system to fail at shock times. The amount of damage at each shock is a function of the sum of the magnitudes of damage caused from all previous shocks. The times between shocks form a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables. The system must be replaced upon failure at some cost but it also can be replaced before failure at a lower cost. The long term expected cost per unit time criterion is used. Structural relationships of the optimal replacement policy under the appropriate regularity conditions will be developed. And these relationships will provide theoretical background for the algorithm development.

  • This paper proposes a maintenance model considering the Inherent availability of certain requirement and two types of failures, repairable or irrepairable. In this model, the system is replaced in time when it doesn't meet the inherent availability requirement despite of all repairable failures; Otherwise it is replaced by the first irrepairable failure. Assuming that the j-th failure is repairable with probability ${\alpha}_j$, minimal repairs are performed for repairable failures between replacements. We drive the expected cost rate through the application of NHPP(Non-Homogeneous Poisson Process) in order to determine the optimal number $n^*$. The model includes some previous studies as special cases.

  • It is difficult for a superintendent or an operator of building service systems and equipment to decide the reasonable time for management of himself due to the shortage of his specialty for repair or replacement of a part of or whole equipment. But The reliable life expectancies for various building service equipment have not been prepared yet. This study shows the difference of optimal economic life and the decrease of running cost and energy consumption according to management level of the building equipment by the LCC analysis. The numerical model for building HVAC system was composed and analyses were performed for several parameters with management.
