The purpose of this paper is to describe the design of a general multipurpose batch process or plant in terms of a series of mathematical programing models, and to develop approach solution methodologies. The proposed model for a single period is based on the formulation (MINLP; Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming) of Papageorgaki and Reklaitis [1], but was linearized (MILP; Mixed Integer Linear Programming) so as to obtain an exact and practical solution, and to allow treatment of uncertainties to be considered in expanding the plant. As a solution strategy a modified Benders' Decomposition was introduced and was tested on three example problems. The optimizing solver, OSL code provided by the IBM Corporation, was used for solving the problems. The solution method was successful in that it showed remarkable reduction in the computing times as compared with the direct solution method.
Failure of the functions involved in ingestion leads to, not only loss of enjoyment of eating, but also protein-energy malnutrition. Dysmasesis and difficulty of swallowing occurs in various diseases, but aging is a major cause. In the aging society, the proportion of elderly people with dysmasesis and difficulty of swallowing is expected to increase rapidly. Developing foods for the elderly that are easy to chew and swallow is thus required. This study was conducted to develop easily chewable and swallowable foods for the elderly who can crush foods and ingest with their own tongues, but occasionally have difficulty in drinking fluids such as water and tea. Various foods for the elderly with chewing and swallowing difficulties were used for sensory assessment. The sensory panel consisted of 10 dietitians (10 women) in nursing care facilities. The sensory optimal composite recipes were determined by central composite design (CCD). The sensory measurements were significantly different in saltiness (p<0.05), sweetness (p<0.05), and overall quality (p<0.05). The optimum formulation of stir fried anchovy calculated by numerical and graphical methods was 3.74 g of soy sauces and 30.17 g of oligo-saccharides. Stir fried anchovy had a moisture content, hardness and adhesiveness of 76.52%, 2.10, and -1.57, respectively.
The durable FR treatments such Pyrovatex and Proban have been used for cotton fibers, while the finishes involve toxic ammonia or formaldehyde release during finishing process or finished products. In this study, ecofriendly flame-retardant treatment of cotton fabrics was carried out using UV-curable formulations of Vinyl bisphosphonic acid (VBPA), Acrylaminide and Triacryloylhexahydro-1,3,5-triazine, as a monomer, a comonomer and a cross-linking agent respectively, which can introduce a cross-linked copolymer networks. With an optimal finish formulation, the flame retardancy of LOI 29.8 was maintained even after 10 laundering cycles. In TGA analysis, the DTGA peak decreased from 389℃ to 252℃ and the amount of char yield increased from 6.1% to 46.1% compared to the untreated cotton. In addition, MCC analysis showed that Peak HR and THR decreased by 59.4% and 69.2% respectively, compared to the untreated cotton. The pyrolysis and combustion behaviors of the FR-treated cotton implied a condensed-phase flame-retarding mechanism.

In order to achieve a good and competitive FPSO design, the building cost and the motion performances are the two most critical and conflicting KPIs to be considered. In this study, the author's previous work (Lee, et al., 2021) on the optimization of an FPSO's hull dimensions with 1800 MBBLs storage capacity at Brazil field was extended using a multi-objective parametric optimization with the hull steel weight and the operability which are closely related to the building cost and the operational cost during the lifetime, respectively. For the purpose of more realistic and practical FPSO design, the constraints related to crew comfort and the safe helicopter take-off and landing operation were newly added. Also, the green water on deck was calculated accurately to check the suitability of the designed freeboard height using a newly developed real-time calculation module for the relative wave elevations. With aids of this updated optimization formulation, we presented multiple optimal FPSO dimensions expressed as a Pareto set which aids FPSO designers to conveniently select the practical and competitive dimensions. The excellence of the developed approach was verified by comparing the optimization results with those of FPSOs dimensioned for operation at West Africa and Brazil field.
This study was conducted to identify the optimal lotion manufacturing conditions with decursin and decursinol angelate of Angelica gigas Nakai extraction. Lotion was confirmed that it had viscosity (5,208±112 cPs), assay (99.71±1.01%), and pH (5.62) for 3 months. The optimization of manufacturing conditions of mixing 4 for lotion formulation were made by 22+3 full factorial design. Mixing temperature (40-80℃) and mixing time (10-30 min) were used as independent variables with three responses(assay, pH, and weight variation) as critical quality attributes (CQAs). The model for assay and weight variation identified a proper fit having a determination coefficient of the regression equation (about 0.9) and a p-value less than 0.05. Estimated conditions for the optimal manufacturing process of lotion were 61.93℃ in mixing temperature and 15.85 min in mixing time. Predicted values at the mixing temperature (60℃) and mixing time (20 min) were 100.69% of assay, 5.57 of pH, and 98.07% of weight variation. In the verification of the actual measurement the obtained values showed 100.29±0.98% of assay, 5.57±0.02 of pH, and 98.27±0.89% of weight variation, respectively, in good agreement with predicted values.

A new design approach of complex geometries such as wing/body configuration is arranged by using overset mesh techniques under large scale computing environment. For an in-depth study of the flow physics and highly accurate design, several special overlapped structured blocks such as collar grid, tip-cap grid, and etc. which are commonly used in refined drag prediction are adopted to consider the applicability of the present design tools to practical problems. Various pre- and post-processing techniques for overset flow analysis and sensitivity analysis are devised or implemented to resolve overset mesh techniques into the design optimization problem based on Gradient Based Optimization Method (GBOM). In the pre-processing, the convergence characteristics of the flow solver and sensitivity analysis are improved by overlap optimization method. Moreover, a new post-processing method, Spline-Boundary Intersecting Grid (S-BIG) scheme, is proposed by considering the ratio of cell area for more refined prediction of aerodynamic coefficients and efficient evaluation of their sensitivities under parallel computing environment. With respect to the sensitivity analysis, discrete adjoint formulations for overset boundary conditions are derived by a full hand-differentiation. A smooth geometric modification on the overlapped surface boundaries and evaluation of grid sensitivities can be performed by mapping from planform coordinate to the surface meshes with Hicks-Henne function. Careful design works for the drag minimization problems of a transonic wing and a wing/body configuration are performed by using the newly-developed and -applied overset mesh techniques. The results from design applications demonstrate the capability of the present design approach successfully.
It has been reported and verified in many design experiences that a judicious utilization of the page and burst access modes supported by DRAMs contributes a great reduction in not only the DRAM access latency but also DRAM's energy consumption. Recently, researchers showed that a careful arrangement of data variables in memory directly leads to a maximum utilization of the page and burst access modes for the variable accesses, but unfortunately, found that the problems are not tractable, consequently, resorting to simple (e.g., greedy) heuristic solutions to the problems. In this parer, to improve the quality of existing solutions, we propose 0-1 ILP-based techniques which produce optimal or near-optimal solution depending on the formulation parameters. It is shown that the proposed techniques use on average 32.2%, l5.1% and 3.5% more page accesses, and 84.0%, 113.5% and 10.1% more burst accesses compared to OFU (the order of first use) and the technique in [l, 2] and the technique in [3], respectively.
The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal mixing condition of tomato powder and sugar for producing chiffon cake. The experiment was designed according to the central composite design of response surface, which yielded ten experimental points, including two replicates. Physiochemical and sensory properties were measured, and theses values applied to mechanical models. A canonical form and perturbation plot showed the influence of each ingredient on the final product mixture. The results of the physiochemical analysis of each sample showed significant differences in sweetness (P<0.01), color L (P<0.001), color a (P<0.001), color b (P<0.05), hardness (P<0.05), and cohesiveness (P<0.01). The sensory measurements were significantly different in color (P<0.05), appearance (P<0.05), flavor (P<0.05), sweetness (P<0.01), moistness (P<0.05), and overall acceptability (P<0.05). The optimal formulation, calculated using the numerical and graphical method, was determined to be 59.27 g tomato powder and 285.66 g sugar. The sensory evaluation showed significantly higher preferences in the color, flavor, appearance, texture, sweetness, tenderness, moistness and overall quality of the optimized chiffon cake compared to the controlled chiffon cake. The optimized chiffon cake also showed a high antioxidative activity compared to the controlled chiffon cake. Our results show that chiffon cake prepared with tomato powder enhances sensory characteristics and antioxidative activity.

This paper presents an integrated analysis of production and financing decisions. We assume that a cash storage unit is installed to manage the cash flows related with production activities such as raw material procurement, process operating setup, Inventory holding cost and finished product sales. Temporarily financial investments are allowed for more profit. The production plant is modeled by the Batch-Storage Network with Recycle Streams in Yi and Reklaitis (2003). The objective function of the optimization is minimizing the opportunity costs of annualized capital investment and cash/material inventory while maximizing stockholder's benefit. No depletion of all the material and cash storage units is major constraints of the optimization. A novel production and inventory analysis formulation, the PSW(Periodic Square Wave) model, provides useful expressions for the upper/lower bounds and average level of the cash and material inventory holdups. The expressions for the Kuhn-Tucker conditions of the optimization problem can be reduced to two subproblems and analytical lot sizing equations under a mild assumption about the cash flow pattern of stockholder's dividend. The first subproblem is a separable concave minimization network flow problem whose solution yields the average material flow rates through the networks. The second subproblem determines the decisions about financial Investment. Finally, production and financial transaction lot sizes and startup times can be determined by analytical expressions as far as the average flow rates are calculated. The optimal production lot and storage sizes considering financial factors are smaller than those without such consideration. An illustrative example is presented to demonstrate the results obtainable using this approach.

This paper presents an integrated analysis of supply chain and financing decisions of multi-national corporation. We construct a model in which multiple currency storage units are installed to manage the currency flows associated with multi-national supply chain activities such as raw material procurement, process operation, inventory control, transportation and finished product sales. Core contribution of this study is to quantitatively investigate the influence of macroscopic economic factors such as exchange rates and taxes on operational decisions. The supply chain is modeled by the Process-Storage Network with recycle streams. The objective function of the optimization is minimizing the opportunity costs of annualized capital investments and currency/material inventories minus the benefit to stockholders interpreted by home currency. The major constraints of the optimization are that the material and currency storage units must not be depleted. A production and inventory analysis formulation, the periodic square wave (PSW) model, provides useful expressions for the upper/lower bounds and average levels of the currency and material inventory holdups. The expressions for the Kuhn-Tucker conditions of the optimization problem are reduced to a subproblem and analytical lot sizing equations. The procurement, production, transportation and financial transaction lot sizes can be determined by analytical expressions after the average flow rates are already known. We show that, when corporate income tax is taken into consideration, the optimal production lot and storage sizes are smaller than is the case when such factors are not considered typically by 20 %.
