  • This paper presents a new perturbation technique for developing efficient iterated local search procedures for the asymmetric traveling salesman problem(ATSP). This perturbation technique uses global information on ATSP instances to speed-up computation and to improve the quality of the tours found by heuristic method. The main idea is to escape from a local optima by introducing perturbations on the out-of-kilter arcs in the problem instance. For a local search heuristic, we use the Kwon which finds optimum or near-optimum solutions by applying the out-of-kilter algorithm to the ATSP. The performance of our algorithm has been tested and compared with known method perturbing on randomly chosen arcs. A number of experiments has been executed both on the well-known TSPLIB instances for which the optimal tour length is known, and on randomly generated Instances. for 27 TSPLIB instances, the presented algorithm has found optimal tours on all instances. And it has effectively found tours near AP lower bound on randomly generated instances.

  • This paper considers the problem of subway crew scheduling. Crew scheduling is concerned with finding a minimum number of assignments of crews to a given timetable satisfying various restrictions. Traditionally, crew scheduling problem has been formulated as a set covering or set partitioning problem possessing exponentially many variables, but even the LP relaxation of the problem is hard to solve due to the exponential number of variables. In this paper, we propose two basic techniques that solve the problem in a reasonable time, though the optimality of the solution is not guaranteed. To reduce the number of variables, we adopt column-generation technique. We could develop an algorithm that solves column-generation problem in polynomial time. In addition, the integrality of the solution is accomplished by variable-fixing technique. Computational results show column-generation makes the problem of treatable size, and variable fixing enables us to solve LP relaxation in shorter time without a considerable increase in the optimal value. Finally, we were able to obtain an integer optimal solution of a real instance within a reasonable time.

  • A systematic approach to tetrahedral element or mesh generation, based on an advancing-front method and an optimal triangular mesh generation technique on the surface, is presented in this paper. The possible internal nodes are obtained by the octree-decomposition scheme. The initial tetrahedral mesh system is constructed by the advancing-front method and then it is improved by the quality improvement processes including mesh swapping and nodal smoothing. The approach is evaluated by investigating the normalized length, the normalized volume, the dihedral angle and the normalized quality

  • Topology optimization is used for determining the best layout of structural components to achieve predetermined performance goals. In the present study, we consider that the objective function is to maximize the natural frequency of the structure for a designated mode and the constraint function is to constrain a total material usage. In this paper, using a topology optimization technique based on the homogenized material and the chessboard prevention strategy, we obtain the optimal layout and the reinforcement of an elastic structure. Several examples are presented to show the ability of the topology optimization technique used in this paper to deal with an optimal layout problem for a free vibration structure.

  • In this paper, a passive telemetry RF capacitive humidity sensor system using a RLSE(Recursive Least Square Estimation) technique is proposed. To overcome these trouble problems such as a power limitation and a estimation complexity that the general passive telemetry sensor system including It chip has, the principle of inductive coupling was applied to the modeling of a passive telemetry RF capacitive humidity sensor system and its capacitance was estimatedd by the RLSE algorithm. Specially, by introducing the optimal forgetting factor, we showed that the accuracy of its estimation was improved even in the time varying system and also the convergence time was reduced.

  • In this work, a new penalty formulation is proposed for the analysis of Mindlin-Reissner plates by using the element-free Galerkin method. A penalized weak form for the Mindlin-Reissner Plates is constructed through the exterior penalty method to enforce the essential boundary conditions of rotations as well as transverse displacements. In the numerical examples, some typical problems of Mindlin-Reissner plates are analyzed, and parametric studies on the order of integration and the size of influence domain are also carried out. The effect of the types of background cells on the accuracy of numerical solutions is observed and a proper type of background cell for obtaining optimal accuracy is suggested. Further, optimal order of integration and basis order of Moving Least Squares approximation are suggested to efficiently handle the irregularly distributed nodes through the triangular type of background cells. From the numerical tests, it is identified that unlike the finite element method, the proposed element-free Galerkin method with penalty technique gives highly accurate solution without shear locking in dealing with Mindlin-Reissner plates.

  • Adaptive control technique for a milling process is developed and implemented in an NC milling machine retrofitted to enable the micro-computer control. The control algorithm has the objects to guarantee the optimal tool life which can give the predetemined allowable lower limit of surface roughness. The experimental results show 1) that the extended tool life equation has good reliability in normal tool wear conditions. 2) and that the proposed adaptive control technique, which determine the optimal cutting condition by basing on the tool life equation modified continually according to the tool wear measured in real time, performs well.

  • In the paper, a robust control mechanism is presented to maneuver a flexible spacecraft with the deflection reduction during large slewing operation at the same time. For deflection reduction and maneuvering of the flexible spacecraft, a control mechanism is developed with the application of stochastic optimal sliding-mode control, a linear tracking model and input shaping technique. A start-coast-stop maneuver is employed as a slewing strategy. It is shown that the control mechanism with he strategic maneuver results in better performance and is more efficient than rigid-body-like maneuver, by applying to the Spacecraft Control Laboratory Experiment (SCOLE) system in a space environment.

  • This study presents an effective stiffness-based optimal technique to control quantitatively lateral drift for 3-D steel frameworks subject to lateral loads. To this end, the displacement sensitivity depending on behavior characteristics of 3-D steel frameworks is established. Also, approximation concept that can preserve the generality of the mathematical programming and can efficiently solve large scale problems is introduced. Resizing sections in the stiffness-based optimal design are assumed to be uniformly varying in size. Two types of 30-story frames are presented to illustrate the features of the Quantitative lateral drift control technique proposed in this study.

  • A binary integration is one of sub-optimal pulse integration which decides detection based on discriminating m successful detections out of n trials in radar systems using multiple pulse repetition frequencies. This paper introduces target measurement error reduction technique to reduce azimuth errors in suboptimal binary integration radar which applies the near value by m rather than the optimal m and verifies the performance by analyzing the experimental data measured from real radar.
