  • reliability from components reliability. In this case, it assumes that components failure is mutually independent, but it may not true in real systems. In this study, the mean cost per unit time is computed as the ratio of mean life to the mean cost. The mean life is obtained by the reliability function under power rule model. The mean cost is obtained by the mathematical model based on the inspection interval. A heuristic method is proposed to determine the optimal number of redundant units and the optimal inspection interval to minimize the mean cost per unit time. The assumptions of this study are as following : First, in the load-sharing k-out-of-n:G system, total loads are applied to the system and shared by the operating components. Secondly, the number of failed components affects the failure rate of surviving components as a function of the total load applied. Finally, the relation between the load and the failure rate of surviving components is set by the power rule model. For the practical application of the above methods, numerical examples are presented.

  • Replacement policy of a degradation of system is investigated by incorporating the loss function defined by the deviation of the value of quality characteristic from its target value, which determines the loss cost . Two cost minimization problems are formulated : 1)determination of an optimal inspection period given the state for the replacement and 2)determination of an optimal state for replacement under fixed inspect ion period. Simulation analysis is performed to observe the variation of total cost with respect to the variation of the parameters of loss function, inspection cost, respectively. As a result, parameters of loss function are seen to be the most sensitive to the total cost. On the contrary, inspect ion cost is observed to be insensitive.

  • In this thesis we propose a two-stage periodic inspection model for maintaining the reliability of a system in long-term storage. There are two types of tests available; a fallible test and an error-free test. The system is overhauled at detection of failure or when the storage reliability after inspection becomes less than or equal to the prespecified value. The expected cost per unit time until overhaul is derived and a procedure for minimizing the expected cost is suggested. The two-stage periodic inspection model is compared with the one-stage periodic inspection model for various parameters of the cost function when the failure time follows exponential and Weibull distributions. The proposed model is then applied to an existing missile system for comparison with the current inspection policy.

  • Three inspection-ordering policies of a part with three types of lead times, i. e., expedited lead time, special lead time and regular lead time are considered. Policy I : The original part is replaced by a spare immediately after delivery, even if the original part is still operating. Policy II : The delivered spare is put into inventory until the original part failes. Policy III : The original part is inspected once again immediately after the delivery of the spare. If it is in a good state, the original part is used up to its mean degradation time, then replaced. If it is in a degradation state, the original part is replaced by a spare. A cost effectiveness for each policy is analyzed. Optimal inspection-ordering policy which maximizes a cost effectiveness is obtained. Time to degradation distribution and time to failure distribution are assumed to be Weibull and exponential, respectively. Variations of policies are observed with respect to variations of associated costs.

  • In this paper, a model is presented which incoporates the possibility of quality control at each of the production stages. We consider the TYPE I error and the TYPE II error in inspection procedures. In addition to alternative quality control configurations, the model integrates the carrying costs of in-process and finished inventory, quality of production process, reprocessing including fixed and variable cost. Our policy determines the value of optimal lot-size and reprocessing batch size in reducing the total costs. A numerical example illustrates the model framework and highlights the role of the decision variables.

  • We consider a preventive replacement policy for a cold-standby system with N components, in which only one component is in operation at a time. If the component in operation fails, a standby component is immediately switched into operation. If all components fail, the system fails. The system is inspected at random poins in time to determine whether it is to be replaced or not. If the number of failed components at the time of inspection exceeds a threshold value r, the system is replaced. Otherwise the decision is put off until the next inspection point arrives. Under the cost structure which includes a replacement cost, a system down-time cost and a holding cost of the components, we develop an efficient procedure to find the optimal control values N and r, which minimize the expected cost per unit time.

  • In this paper we consider closed flow line systems with samploing inspections. The total number of parts in the system is assumed to be N. The processings carried out of each station do not always meet the requirement of quality. Therefore, upon completion of its processing at each station, a part is inspected to determine whether the processings meet the requirement of quality or not. We assume that inspection are done on a random basis. If a part is found to be defective by an inspection, it is fed back to the apropriate station. Two different cases will be considered in this study : a three-station flow line system with infinite buffers and a two-station flow line system with finite buffers. For each case, we will develop an exact method to obtain the performance measures such as throughput, machinen utilization, average outgoing quality and manufacturing lead time. For the case of the two-station flow line system ith finite buffers, we will also develop an approximation method using a stage-aggregation technique. Then using buffers, we will also develop an approximation method using a stage-aggregation technique. Then using these results, we will try to find an optimal inspection policy which maximizes the expected net profit under a certain cost structure. Although we present the results only for the two or three station flow line system in this paper, the results obtained in this paper can be extended easily to the system which consists of more than two or three stations.

  • Certified Missile Round Concepts that is one-shot device use the periodic inspection policy to improve the continuously deteriorated reliability. In this paper, we suggest dormant reliability prediction model by simulation with real operational environment. The suggested prediction model is based on optimal inspection period decision model and additionally considers various constraints; moving, inspection or repair service time. The simulation results show the constraints affect dormant reliability and missile availability. Lastly, we suggest building up a depot to resolve the above problems by the suggested simulation model.

  • SMT is an equipment that picks up electronic components and does precise placing onto PCBs. In order to do this, it stops in front of a camera installed in the middle to go over vision inspection. And after that it is move for placing. There are 16 different types of routes in this process. This paper presents the fastest algorithm to place (sLa-Camera-pLb) among all these routes. In order to do this, instead of stopping in front of camera the object should move on while going over the vision inspection. Among all possible tracks, this thesis will provide algorithm to find out the fastest tracks to do vision inspection and placing. And as a result, this thesis have demonstrated that this method can save about 16% of time compared to going over inspection while the object is standing still through simulation.
