Optimal placement and tuning of multiple tuned mass dampers for suppressing multi-mode structural response

  • The optimal design of multiple tuned mass dampers (multiple TMD's) to suppress multi-mode structural response of beams and floor structures was investigated. A new method using a numerical optimizer, which can effectively handle a large number of design variables, was employed to search for both optimal placement and tuning of TMD's for these structures under wide-band loading. The first design problem considered was vibration control of a simple beam using 10 TMD's. The results confirmed that for structures with widelyspaced natural frequencies, multiple TMD's can be adequately designed by treating each structural vibration mode as an equivalent SDOF system. Next, the control of a beam structure with two closely-spaced natural frequencies was investigated. The results showed that the most effective multiple TMD's have their natural frequencies distributed over a range covering the two controlled structural frequencies and have low damping ratios. Moreover, a single TMD can also be made effective in controlling two modes with closely spaced frequencies by a newly identified control mechanism, but the effectiveness can be greatly impaired when the loading position changes. Finally, a realistic problem of a large floor structure with 5 closely spaced frequencies was presented. The acceleration responses at 5 positions on the floor excited by 3 wide-band forces were simultaneously suppressed using 10 TMD's. The obtained multiple TMD's were shown to be very effective and robust.

  • An optimal control of an air-conditioning system with slab thermal storage is investigated by making use of the Maximum Principle. An optimal heat input to a plenum chamber and an air-conditioned room is determined by minimizing a criterion function which is given as integral sum of two terms. The first term is the square of the deviation in the room air temperature from the set-point value, and the second is the absolute value of the heat input. The result indicates that it tries to keep a room air temperature in set-point value by heating as much as possible at the time of a setup of a room air temperature or just before that, in order to avoid a heat loss arising at the time of the non-air conditioning. The result is compared with that of the case when the square of the heat input is used as a criterion.

표적 정보량을 최대화하는 피동 호밍궤적에 관한 고찰 (A Study on Passive Homing Trajectory for Maximizing Target Information)

  • This paper deals with the problem of generating the energy optimal trajectory which is intended to enhance the target tracking performance of a passive homing missile. Noticing that the essence of passive target tracking is the range estimation problem, the target information gathered by passive measurements can be readily analyzed by introducing the range estimator designed in line-of-sight(LOS) frame. Moreover, for the linear filter structure of the suggested range estimator, the cost function associated with the target information is clearly expressed as a function of the line-of-sight rate. Based on this idea, the optimal missile trajectory maximizing the target information is obtained by solving the saddle point problem for an indefinite quadratic cost which consists of the target information and the energy. It is shown that, different from the previous heuristic approaches, the guidance command producing the optimal passive homing trajectory is produced by the modified proportional navigation guidance law whose navigation constant is determined by the weighting coefficient for target information cost.

  • The optimal design of structural composite materials is a research topic that attracts the attention of lots researchers. For many more thirty years, there has been increasing interest in the applications in all kinds of topics, which means taking advantage of fuzzy set theory, fuzzy analysis, and fuzzy control for designing high-performance and efficient structural systems is a fundamental concern for engineers, and many applications require the use of a systems approach to combine structural and active control systems. Therefore, an intelligent method can be designed based on the mitigation method, and by establishing the stable of the closed-loop fuzzy mitigation system, the behavior of the closed-loop fuzzy mitigation system can be accurately predicted. In this article, the intelligent algorithm and optimum design of fuzzy theory for structural control has been provided and demonstrated effective and efficient in practical engineering issues.

  • High frequency full bridge series resonant inverters have become increasingly popular among power supply designers. One of the most important parameter for a High Frequency Full Bridge Series Resonant Inverter is optimal coil design. The optimal coil designing procedure is not a easy task. This paper deals with the New Approach to Optimal Design Procedure for a Real-time High Frequency Full Bridge Series Resonant Inverter in Induction Heating Equipment devices. A new design to experimental modelling of the physical properties and a practical power input simulation process for the non-sinusoidal input waveform is accepted. The design sensitivity analysis with Levenberg-Marquardt technique is used for the optimal design process. The proposed technique is applied to an Induction Heating Equipment devices model and the result is verified by real-time experiment. The main advantages of this design technique is to achieve more accurate temperature control with a huge amount of power saving.

  • TCP 통신, 패킷통신은 고품질과 고신뢰성 확보를 위해서는 전송제어 기술이 필요하다. 그러나 실시간 데이터 전송의 경우 비효율적 전송 문제가 발생한다. 이러한 문제점을 극복하여 패킷의 신뢰성 전송을 위해 일반적으로는 단순히 버퍼 수위를 지표로 하는 조기혼잡제어를 사용 하였다. 혼잡을 제어하는 시점을 버퍼 수위에 기준을 두기 때문에 혼잡제어 시점과 해지 시점의 제어가 지연된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 버퍼 수위 지표뿐만 아니라 네트워크 혼잡을 측정하는 전송 속도와 버퍼 수위가 최적의 설정 이상 수준에 근접하도록 패킷 폐기확률을 결정하는 이상적인 버퍼 수위와 함께 분류 하였다. 제안 방법을 입증하기 위한 실험에서 설정한 이상적인 버퍼 수위에 의해 평균버퍼 수위가 유지되게 함으로 직접 제어할 수 있음을 결과로 나타내었다.

  • This paper evaluates the effectiveness of four-wheel-steering system from the viewpoint of lane-keeping control theory. In this paper, the lane-keeping control system is designed on the basis of the four-wheel-steering automobiles whose desired steering response is realized with the application of model matching control. Two types of desired steering responses are presented in this paper. One is zero-sideslip response, the other one is steering response which realizes zero-phase-delay of lateral acceleration. Using simplified linear two degree-of-freedom bicycle model, simulation study and theoretical analysis are conducted to evaluate the lane-keeping control performance of active four-wheel-steering automobiles which have different desired steering responses. Finally, the evaluation is conducted on straight and curved roadway tracking maneuvers.

Task based design of modular robot manipulator using efficient genetic algorithms

  • Modular robot manipulator is a robotic system assembled from discrete joints and links into one of many possible manipulator configurations. This paper describes the design method of newly developed modular robot manipulator and the methodology of a task based reconfiguration of it. New locking mechanism is proposed and it provides quick coupling and decoupling. A parallel connection method is devised and it makes modular robot manipulator working well and the number of components on each module reduced. To automatically determine a sufficient or optimal arrangement of the modules for a given task, we also devise an algorithm that automatically generates forward and inverse manipulator kinematics, and we propose an algorithm which maps task specifications to the optimized manipulator configurations. Efficient genetic algorithms are generated and used to search for a optimal manipulator from task specifications. A few of design examples are shown.

  • In the present work, the mathematical model of wire coating in a straight annular die is developed for unsteady second grade fluid in the form of partial differential equation. The Optimal Homotopy Asymptotic Method (OHAM) is applied for obtaining the solution of the model problem. This method provides us a suitable way to control the convergence of the series solution using the auxiliary constants which are optimally determined.

  • This paper discusses an optimal cyclic scheduling problem for a FMC (Flexible Manufacturing Cell) modeled by a two-machine flowshop with two machining centers with APC's (Automated Pallet Changers), an AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) and loading and unloading stations. Cyclic production in which similar patterns of production is repeated can significantly reduce the production lead-time and WIP (Work-In-Process) in such flexible, automated system. Thus we want to find an optimal cyclic schedule that minimizes the cycle time in each cycle. However, the existence of APC's as buffer storage for WIP makes the problem intractable (i.e., NP-complete). We propose an practical approximation algorithm that minimizes, instead of each cycle time, its upper bound. Performances of this algorithm are validated by the way of computer simulations.
