Stress Profile Dependence of the Optical Properties in Strained Quantum Wire Arrays

  • The effects of strain distribution in quantum wire arrays have been analyzed using a finite-element method including both the hydrostatic and shear strain components. Their effects on the optical properties of the quantum wire arrays are assessed for various types of stress profiles by calculating the optical gain and the polarization dependence. The results show unique polarization dependency, which can be exploited either for the single polarization or the polarization-independent operation in quantum wire photonic devices.

  • 본 논문에서는 wire discharge 방법의 응용인 Multiple-wire corona discharge (NW CD)의 preionization field를 계산하였고, 동일한 조건하에서 Surface corona discharge (SCD) 와 Wide discharge(WD) 의 preionization filed와 비교하여보았다. 그에 따른 결과로써 NWCD가 고출력 TEA-CO2 레이저에 가장 좋은 선전리 방법임을 알 수 있었다.

  • We propose an optical-based measuring instrument of catenary system in electric railway. This system was made to utilize line scan camera as inspecting system to measure the stagger and height of overhead contact wire in railway and composed with optical type source and FPGA-based image acquisition system with PCI slot. Vision acquisition software has been used for the application to programming interface for image acquisition, display, and storage with a frequency of sampling. To check the validity of our approach for the intended application, we monitored height and stagger in the overhead wire of a high-speed catenary system in Korea. The proposed optical-based measuring instrument to measure the contact wire geometry such as the hight and stagger shows promising on-field applications for online condition motoring. We expect that a new generation of real-time instruments with demanding various conditions motoring requirement in railway can be easily integrated into optical-based measuring instrument system.

Band Structure Analysis of Strained Quantum Wire Arrays

  • A numerical approach for the analysis of quantum wire structures has been presented using a finite-element method which includes the strain analysis and the band analysis of the Luttinger-Kohn Hamiltonian with the deformation potential. A systematic implementation of the multiband Hamiltonian in the finite-element scheme is outlined and the corresponding variational functional is derived for arbitrarily shaped strained quantum wire arrays. This method is then applied to calculate the band structures of strained quantum wire arrays.

  • In optical disc system, lens actuator of 4-wire has unwanted moment which occurs tilt. The moment around the axis pallet to the tangential direction of the disk occurs to the moving part. when the moving part is moved in tracking direction and focus driving force is applied. This paper analyzed coupled effect due to the moment based on structural analysis and magnetic field analysis, both using finite element method.

Characteristics of THz Pulse Propagation on Teflon Covered Two-Wire Lines

  • We report efficient direct coupling of THz dipole antenna pulses onto air spaced two-wire transmission lines and Teflon covered two-wire lines. The air spaced two-wire lines show TEM mode propagation with very small group velocity dispersion (GVD) and relatively low attenuation. The Teflon covered two-wire lines showed comparatively much higher attenuation and GVD. However, the Teflon covered two-wire lines show a very good guiding property when the lines are curved. Although the lines are circled only 5.0 cm in diameter, there is no additional attenuation compared to straight the lines.

  • In this study, We developed the 154kV optical fiber incorporated power cable which is combined optical fibers with conventional 154kV power cable. Also, we developed optical unit that optical fiber is inserted in stainless tube. The optical unit was tested, and we got good results enough to safe optical fibers. Also we put the optical fiber incorporated power cable to the test of electrical characteristics and optical characteristics, we knew that the electrical characteristics were the same characteristics as conventional 154kV power cable and the transmission loss change was almost zero. The method of optical unit connection was examined.

  • Current major photovoltaic (PV) market share (> 60%) is being occupied by the multicrystalline (mc)-silicon solar cells despite of low efficiency compared to single crystalline silicon solar cells. The diamond wire sawing technology reduces the production cost of crystalline silicon solar cells, it increases the optical loss for the existing mc-silicon solar cells and hence its efficiency is low in the current mass production line. To overcome the optical loss in the mc-crystalline silicon, caused by the diamond wire sawing, next generation texturing process is being investigated by various research groups for the PV industry. In this review, the limitation of surface structure and optical loss due to the reflectivity of conventional mc-silicon solar cells are explained by the typical texturing mechanism. Various texturing technologies that could minimize the optical loss of mc-silicon solar cells are explained. Finally, next generation texturing technology to survive in the fierce cost competition of photovoltaic market is discussed.

  • Wire-suspensions in the conventional actuators mechanically support the moving part and guarantee the accuracy of the actuator without tangential tilt actuation. However, such a suspension configuration has considerable stiffness in the tangential tilt direction with two additional wire beams for the tangential tilt. Thus, we performed a design sensitivity analysis for the wire-suspension stiffness of 4-axis actuator and controlled the main parameters such as distance among wire-suspensions and wire-suspension length to allow tangential tilt flexibility. The elasticity of frame PCB that supports the moving part by wire-suspensions was also exploited to improve the flexibility of wire-suspension in the tangential tilt direction. A novel suspension structure was devised by establishing eight wire-suspensions at both sides of the moving part for electrical connection to coils. The magnetic circuit according to the proposed 4-axis actuator using multi-polar magnet and coils was also suggested for the generation of electromagnetic forces in the focusing, tracking, radial and tangential tilt directions.
