  • Risk Based Oversight is a way of performing oversight, where planning is driven by the combination of risk profile and safety performance. Risk Based Oversight enables prioritization and allocation of State's safety management resources commensurate with the safety risk profile of each service provider. This paper presents the concept of Risk Based Oversight and applies it to the current Korean aviation safety oversight process. In particular, this study presents a method for generating operating profiles, one of the key concepts of Risk Based Oversight. Operations Specifications of Part 121 Airlines can generate operating profiles. In this study, a practical study was conducted to generate the operating profile and scoped DCTs using Part 121 Airlines's Operations Specifications.

  • Purpose: An accurate preoperative analysis of the patient is essential in orthognathic surgery in order to acquire superior results. In profile, the location of the chin's position may change according to the neck's inclination. This may ultimately affect the amount of surgical movement. During acquisition of cephalometric radiographs, or in supine position, there is a discrepancy in the neck's inclination. This means that there are also various discrepancies between the actual profile and the various preoperative profile images. In the clinical situation, the decision in performing genioplasty usually lies in the analysis of the patient's profile on the operating table at the final stages of orthognathic surgery. This study aims to analyze the different preoperative profile images and to compare their discrepancies. Methods: Fifty eight patients undergoing orthognathic surgery were chosen. These patients were divided into three groups according to angle's classification of malocclusion, as class I, II or III. The right profile of these patients in centric occlusion was taken in natural head position (NHP). This was set as the 'actual profile image.' Another right profile image was taken on the operating table after insertion of the nasotracheal intubation and with muscle relaxants in effect. This was also taken in centric occlusion. The angle (denoted 'A') between the soft tissue glabella-pognion and the true vertical plane was found in the above-mentioned profile images and in the cephalometric radiographs. The differences of these values were analyzed. Results: There were differences in Angle 'A' in all of the preoperative images. These values were however, not statistically significant. Conclusion: In order to gain an esthetic profile during orthognathic surgery, the NHP is shown to be the most reliable position. Images reproducing such head positions should be used in the treatment planning process.

  • The performance of finite journal bearing operating in turbulent regime was experimentally investigated. In order to obtain experimental data contained operating conditions(thermal deformation etc.) of bearing, this study measured the pressure and the film thickness with sensors mounted on the journal. And, the continuous pressure profile and the film thickness profile were obtained.

  • The performance of finite journal bearing operating in turbulent regime was investigated experimentally. In order to obtain experimental data containing surrounding conditions (thermal deformation, machining error etc.) of journal bearing, this study mounted a pressure sensor and a gap sensor on the journal. The data for continuous pressure profile and continuous film thickness profile were presented in this paper.

  • A Knowledge of friction force in pneumatic cylinders makes it possible to improve cylinder description during simulation and to asses performance under changing operating conditions more accurately. Such knowledge is particularly useful, for example, when modeling continuous pneumatic positioning systems or predicting the operating conditions under which stick slip may occur, as well as in establishing preventive maintenance procedures for pneumatic cylinders. Friction force depends on a number of factors, including operating pressure, seal running speed on the cylinder barrel and rod, barrel material and surface roughness, seal dimensions and profile, seal material, lubrication conditions, cylinder distortion during assembly, and the operating temperature of cylinder components. This paper shows a system for measuring the friction force caused by a seal used in pneumatic cylinders. Results of experimental tests show that seal friction forces for grease lubricated service are clearly dependent on speed and pressure and are les sensitivity to other parameter. i.e., barrel material and roughness, seal material, and profile.

  • It is a study on the design of a cam profile for diesel engine SOHC. It is used a reverse engineering method without the usual copy processing. It draws up the contour data from an actual cam and processes by CNC. The profile of the cam is reappeared to be up to operational specifications that are the opening and shutting time, lift, speed and acceleration of the inhalation and escape valves. While the cam operating, the noise and vibration are occurred by the sudden change of speed. The new design of cam profile is suitable fur the valve operations to be smooth. We propose the design method of a cam profile far the reappearance of an actual cam. It is proved to be the propriety about the design of the cam profile through the processing, measurement, and comparison of the cam profile.

  • A random profile is the result of a process, the output of which is a function instead of a scalar or vector quantity. In the nature of these objects, two main dimensions of "functionality" and "randomness" can be recognized. Valuable researches have been conducted to present control charts for monitoring such processes in which a regression approach has been applied by focusing on "randomness" of profiles. Performing other statistical techniques such as hypothesis testing for different parameters, comparing parameters of two populations, ANOVA, DOE, etc. has been postponed thus far, because the "functional" nature of profiles is ignored. In this paper, first, some needed theorems are proven with an applied approach, so that be understandable for an engineer which is unfamiliar with advanced mathematical analysis. Then, as an application of that, a statistical test is designed for mean of continuous random profiles. Finally, using experimental operating characteristic curves obtained in computer simulation, it is demonstrated that the presented tests are properly able to recognize deviations in the null hypothesis.

  • Standard Building Operation Conditions(SBOC) is to describe typical conditions under which a building would operate during the coulee of a day In order to develop SBOC profiles for office building, we surveyed the operating conditions of randomly selected 20 existing office buildings in Seoul by means of enquetes, and made SBOC profiles. SBOC profiles consist of human occupancy profile, light ins usage profile, system schedule and domestic hot water profile etc. SBOC profiles will be used as input data of DOE-2 computer program to estimate DER(Design Energy Requirements) and to develop EBL (Energy Budget Level), SBOC profiles are not meant to be exact description of how a building will actually be used by its respective users. Rather they are intended to be reasonable typical project ions of how buildings might be used.

  • Compared to Packaged Terminal Air Conditioning Systems, Radiant Cooling Systems have the advantage of energy saving and thermal comfort. Thermally Activated Building System (TABS) is one of the radiant heating and cooling systems. The main difference between TABS and other radiant systems lies in the usage of the time-lag effect of storing heat energy in the concrete. Current energy usage in summer time is concentrated within a specific time by using Packaged Terminal Air-Conditioner (PTAC). Due to the time-lag effect of TABS, energy usage can be distributed to other time zones. To maximize this effect, it is important to determine the appropriate operating mode, which for TABS is dependent upon the cooling load generated by the occupancy schedule. In this study, occupancy schedules are determined for various residential types. The operating modes of TABS for these residential types are estimated by using a dynamic computational simulation method. The results indicate that the operating modes of TABS can be determined by residential type and occupancy schedule. The load handled ratio by TABS is set up differently according to the cooling load profile obtained from residential type and occupancy schedule. By using TABS, energy consumption could be reduced by 20% compared to PTAC.

  • Effects of operating variables on temperature profile and performance of 3 MWth chemical looping combustion system were estimated by mass and energy balance analysis based on configuration and dimension of the system determined by design tool. Air reactor gas velocity, fuel reactor gas velocity, solid circulation rate, and solid input percentage to fluidized bed heat exchanger were considered as representative operating variables. Overall heat output and oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas from the air reactor increased but temperature difference decreased as air reactor gas velocity increased. Overall heat output, required solid circulation rate, and temperature difference increased as fuel reactor gas velocity increased. However, overall heat output and temperature difference decreased as solid circulation rate increased. Temperature difference decreased as solid circulation rate through the fluidized bed heat exchanger increased. Effect of each variables on temperature profile and performance can be determined and these results will be helpful to determine operating range of each variable.
