루브릭을 활용한 자유탐구 지도가 초등학생의 자유탐구에 미치는 영향 및 인식 조사 (The Effect and Cognition of Open-Inquiry Lesson using Lubric on the Elementary Student's Open-Inquiry)

  • The purpose of this research is to find the effect of the lesson using open-inquiry report Lubric on open-inquiry standard and science process skill; to find the change of cognition on open-inquiry for elementary school 5th grade students. Two classes (elementary school 5th grade) were selected which located in a small and medium-sized city for this research and they were separated as an experimental group and a comparative group. Open-inquiry lesson was done by referring teaching method which introduced through the curriculum. The procedure was understanding about open-inquiry, making open-inquiry subject, planning, and performing inquiry, mid-term, performing inquiry, making a report, presentation, and evaluation. Open-inquiry report Lubric which developed by Sook-Kyung Kim et al. (2010) was provided to the experimental group. Comparative group was instructed by using open-inquiry report which introduced to the elementary school 5th grade science text book. Interview paper was developed in order to check out the effect of the research by using a test paper of science process skill. The following could be found out through the research. After open-inquiry lesson, 10 open-inquiry reports(5 reports from experimental group, 5 reports from comparative group) have been drawn at random as samples from the total 62 sets (30 reports from experimental group, 32 reports from comparative group) and evaluated by a researcher and two elementary school teachers who have master degree. The reliability of the 3 scorers was 0.923 of mean correlation coefficient. And then the researcher evaluated all open-inquiry reports. The average score of open-inquiry report was 66.78 for experimental group, 54.27 for comparative group, respectively. And there was a significant difference at p<0.05 level as a result of the t-test. The experimental group rated high at p<0.05 level according to the analysis of post-science process skill test. According to the result of survey, both experimental group and comparative group had understood open-inquiry activity. It was especially rated high for experimental group on understanding scientific inquiry process, interest and satisfaction in open-inquiry and re-participation rate. By interviewing experimental group, it is recognized that the students utilized Lubric very well through the overall process. Finally, self-evaluation was done during open-inquiry activity and it was reported that the students gained more knowledge about science and changed to positive about science. As a result, the lesson using open-inquiry report Lubric was effective for students to improve writing skill of an open-inquiry report and science process skill and finally changed the cognition to positive about open-inquiry lesson.

초등학생을 위한 자유 탐구 프로그램 개발 및 적용: 학생의 과학 탐구 기능 특성 및 지속적 피드백을 중심으로 (Development and Application of Open Inquiry Program : Focusing on the Students' Traits of Science Inquiring Ability and Repeated Feedback)

  • The revised curriculum in 2007 adds an open inquiry approach to increase students' creativity and interest in science. Because it is the first time for elementary students to perform the open inquiry due to the national curriculum, it is essential that teachers give students' successful experiences in order to build a positive impression about inquiry activity. The purpose of this research is to develop and apply the open inquiry program. The research findings are as follows: First, we analyzed the students' traits of open inquiry ability during the program. The third and fourth grade students showed weakness in operating and inquiring abilities. They also feared failure and were unable to concentrate in classes which were based on explanation or discussion. When students had unexpected results, however, their inquiring abilities and creativeness increased considerably. Additionally there were some students who were stressed during the science-inquiry activity, due to no interest in science and an inability to think scientifically. Second, we developed an open inquiry program for elementary students. The program was modified, reflected upon the students' traits during open inquiry in class. Through repeated feedback like this, we completed the program. Third, for those who studied in the lessons there was a meaningful change in students' science inquiry abilities and abilities to perform 'formulating a hypothesis' and 'the control of variables'. These students' level of self-inquiry performance improved steadily. Moreover, they obtained a strong attachment to their inquiry and understood the method of quantitative experiments.

초등학교 과학과 자유탐구에 관한 교사들의 관심도 분석 (An Analysis on Elementary School Teachers' Concern on Open Inquiry in Science Education)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze stages of the concern on open inquiry of elementary school teachers. To achieve this purpose, this study used the instruments of CBAM, including stages of concern questionnarie. The results of this study was as follows. Firstly, most teachers were in 0 stage, which meant they had little concern on open inquiry in science instruction. Secondly, the teachers who had teaching career of less than or 10 years were no more interested in open inquiry than teachers who had teaching career of 11-20 years. Thirdly, the training experience and teaching experience of open inquiry didn't show a statistically significant difference. Based on these results, this study suggested that we need educational programs and supporting strategies to heighten concerns and enthusiasm of teachers and pre-service teachers on open inquiry in science instruction.

인지 수준에 따른 자유 탐구 활동에서 과학 탐구 노트의 활용 효과 (The Effects of Using Science Notebooks in the Open Inquiry Activities by Cognitive Levels)

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the teaching effects according to the cognitive levels after conducting inquiry activities using science notebooks in the open inquiry activities of the elementary science class. The results of this study were as follow. first, students having the open inquiry activities using science notebooks showed improvement in scientific inquiry abilities in both groups with the low and high cognitive level. Second, regarding the changes of scientific attitudes, both groups with the low and high cognitive level exhibited improvement. According to the result of analyzing interaction between the cognitive level and class treatment on the effects for scientific inquiry abilities and scientific attitudes, there was no difference by the cognitive level. And the use of science notebooks in open inquiry activities had effects on improving scientific inquiry abilities and scientific attitudes regardless of the cognitive level.

뇌기반 진화적 접근법을 적용한 초등학생 수준별 자유탐구 안내자료 개발 및 효과 (Development and Effect of Differentiated Open Inquiry Guide Materials for Elementary Students Applying a Brain-based Evolutionary Approach)

  • Since open inquiry of science was formally introduced at the 2007 Revised Science Curriculum Course, the purpose and effect of it has been positively evaluated, and it is underlined continuously until the revised science education course in 2015. However, through many previous studies, there is still a lack of awareness of open inquiry of both students and teachers in the field, and it was revealed they are continually appealing confusion and difficulties. Therefore, in this research, we analyzed the causes that make it difficult to execute open inquiry, and developed differentiated open inquiry guide materials that can contribute to the realization of teachers and students. They were developed by the brain-based evolutionary approach to provide students with authentic science. The brain-based evolutionary approach is reflecting the evolutionary attributes and the brain functions associated activities of scientists. It was revealed that, in the same way as the pilot test results, the usefulness of the differentiated guide materials were very high, and there was a statistically significant difference in the science attitude. It was found that the application of the brain-based evolutionary approach had positively influenced the stage of determining the inquiry themes, and self-confidence that could be able to do as a scientist. Analysis of top and sub group types on the basis of inquiry ability showed that both groups are improved at science attitude by the differentiated guide materials. There was a positive effect on change in the self-perception of scientific creativity. We were able to see a positive change in the post survey for open inquiry-efficacy. The developed differentiated open inquiry guide materials contributed to the improvement of open inquiry-efficacy for both the teacher and student.

초등학교 과학과 자유탐구 활동에서 교사와 학생이 겪는 어려움 분석 (Analysis of Elementary Teachers' and Students' Views about Difficulties on Open Science Inquiry Activities)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the elementary teachers' views and students' views about the difficulties in teaching and learning on open inquiry activities of elementary school science. Semi-structured interviews were conducted individually with three elementary teachers who have serviced more than three years, and with twenty four elementary students attending schools located in Cheongju City. And their anecdotes were collected and analyzed. The interview questions were developed through Seidman's steps to acquire the reliability in the interview data. From the interviews and anecdotes, we found that elementary teachers' views about the difficulties of teaching open inquiry activities: the difficulties of teaching in finding inquiry problem and planning inquiry, the difficulties of managing group activities, the difficulties of managing class hours for inquiry, the lack of the students' inquiry abilities, and problems on students' affective characteristics. And the students have the views about the difficulties in doing open inquiry activities: the difficulties of finding inquiry problem and planning inquiry, being unaccustomed to write reports, the troubles with investigating, problems on affective characteristics, the difficulties of joining in a group, and the lack of inquiry abilities. The teachers give suggestions for effective application of the open inquiry activities: first, the teachers must encourage students' emotion and will in doing open inquiry activities, second, there must be the steady inquiry teaching and learning in ordinary elementary science classes. Based on the results, this study suggested that elementary teachers should concern specially about students' being unaccustomed to write reports and the troubles in doing scientific investigation.

초등 예비 교사들의 자유 탐구 수행 능력 분석 (Analysis of the Ability of Open Inquiry Performance for Pre-service Elementary Teachers)

  • The revised curriculum in 2007 includes open inquiry approach to increase students' interest in science and to build up creativity. So teachers and pre-service teachers should be equipped with the ability of open inquiry performance. In order to investigate pre-service teachers' readiness to perform open inquiry tasks, we analyzed reports written as homework by a group of 71 juniors in a national university of education. The investigation tool was composed of four domains: topic selection, the inquiry process, the conclusion, and reporting. Each domain had three or four sub-domains. By using the framework, four raters scored the students' inquiry reports. The findings reveal that the pre-service elementary school teachers have difficulty in the domain of 'topic selection' and the 'conclusion' compared with the other domains. Under the topic selection domain, they showed weaknesses in 'creativity' and 'scientific topic' and under the conclusion domain, they had difficulty in 'recognizing limits' and 'value of conclusion'. The finding suggests that pre-service teaching program should provide with opportunities to perform open inquiry continually.

자유탐구 수업이 초등학생의 과학적 태도 및 과학탐구능력에 미치는 영향과 지도교사들의 자유탐구에 대한 인식 조사 (The Effect of the Specific Open-inquiry Lesson on the Elementary Student's Science-related Attitude, Science Process Skill and the Instructing Teachers' Cognition about Open-inquiry)

  • 본 연구의 목적은, 2007년 개정 과학과 교육과정에서 강조되고 있는 자유탐구를 현장에 원활하게 적용하기 위한 구체적인 지도방안을 구안하여 그것에 따른 자유탐구 수업이 초등학생들의 과학적 태도와 과학탐구능력에 어떠한 영양을 미치는지 알아보고 또한 자유탐구를 지도한 교사들이 자유탐구에 대해 어떠한 인식을 가지고 있는지를 알아보는것이다. 연구대상은 부산광역시 소재의 동일한 급지에 속한 J 및 S 초등학교의 5학년 각각 1개 반이었다. 실험집단이 속한 J초등학교는 자유탐구 수업을, 비교집단이 속한 S초등학교는 전통적 방식으로 제7차 교육과정에 의한 수업을 실시하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 자유탐구 수업을 한 학생들은 전통적 방식의 수업을 학생들에 비해 과학적 태도에서의 평균 점수가 더 높게 나왔으나 유의미한 차이는 아니었다. 하지만 하위 요소별로 보았을 때 정직성과 비판성의 요소에서 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 자유탐구 수업을 한 학생들은 전통적 방식의 수업을 학생들에 비해서 과학탐구능력의 평균 점수도 높아졌을 뿐만이 아니라 그 차이는 p<.05의 수준에서 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 특히 하위 영역에서 보았을 때 기초탐구능력에서 그러한 효과를 확인할 수 있었다. 자유탐구를 지도한 교사들은 자유탐구에 대해 '학생들의 흥미를 높이고 과학탐구능력 향상을 위한 자기 주도적 문제 해결학습'이라 생각하였다. 교사들의 자유탐구에 대한 부정적 인식척도는 환경 요인에 다소 높게 치우쳐 있어 환경 요인에 대한 요구가 많이 남아 있음을 보여준다. 그리고 교사들은 자유탐구의 장애요인으로서 주로 학생들의 경험이나 지식의 부족, 학급당 인원수 과다 등을 지적하였으며 자유탐구 정착을 위한 선행 조건으로는 자유탐구 지도를 위한 교육과정과 교재의 개발을 꼽았다.

학생의 열린 과학 탐구 보고서 작성을 돕기 위한 점검표 개발 (Development of A Checklist for Helping Students' Open Scientific Inquiry Report Writing)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 학생들의 열린 탐구 보고서 작성을 돕기 위한 점검표를 개발하는데 있다. 이를 위해 8명의 과학 영재학생들이 작성한 탐구활동지, 학생들의 탐구활동 관찰과 면담, 그리고 최종적으로 제출한 열린 탐구 보고서를 분석하였다. 이로부터 학생들이 잘하는 점과 부족한 점을 추출하고, 이를 바탕으로 열린 탐구를 돕기 위한 점검표를 개발하였다. 점검표는 5개 영역에 대해서 총 46개의 항목으로 구성되었다. 개발된 점검표는 7명의 과학영재학생들이 제출한 탐구 보고서 평가에 적용하고, 평가자간 일치도 분석을 통해 신뢰도를 분석하였고, 그 결과 높은 신뢰도를 확인할 수 있었다. 마지막으로, 개발된 점검표를 보다 효율적으로 활용하기 위한 방안을 논의하였다.

요인 분석을 통한 개방적 탐구의 스캐폴딩 요소 및 기능 탐색 (Exploring the Components and Functions of Scaffolding in Open Inquiry through Factor Analysis)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 개방적 탐구에서 요구되는 스캐폴딩 요소를 추출하고, 효과적인 개방적 탐구를 위한 교사의 스캐폴딩 기능을 현장 교사들의 경험적 시각을 통해 탐색해 보는 것이다. 개방적 탐구에서 요구되는 스캐폴딩 요소를 탐색하기 위하여 두 중학교에서 개방적 탐구를 수행했던 110명의 학생들을 대상으로 개방적 탐구에 대한 반응을 묻는 설문 조사를 실시하였고, 응답 결과에 대해 요인 분석을 실시하였다. 또한 설문 조사에 응했던 학생들 중 일부를 대상으로 학생 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 실시하여 추출된 스캐폴딩 요소에 대한 학생들의 반응 수준을 조사하였으며, 개방적 탐구를 지도한 경험이 있는 교사 4명을 대상으로 심층 면접을 실시하여 개방적 탐구에서 교사의 스캐폴딩 기능에 대한 현장 교사들의 경험적 시각을 살펴보았다. 탐색적 요인 분석을 실시한 결과 5개의 스캐폴딩 요소(탐구 동기, 탐구 계획, 탐구 전략, 탐구 환경, 탐구 참여)를 추출할 수 있었다. 또한 학생 포커스 그룹 인터뷰 결과, 학생들은 개방적 탐구의 스캐폴딩 요소 중 탐구 동기를 제외한 탐구 계획, 탐구 전략, 탐구 환경, 탐구 참여에서 어려운 점을 제시하였고, 특히 자기 역할 인식, 과제 수행에 대한 적극적인 참여와 모둠원들과의 협력으로 대표되는 참여적 요소를 강화하기 위한 도움 방안을 요구하였다. 한편, 개방적 탐구에서 스캐폴딩의 기능에 대한 현장 교사들의 경험적 시각을 심층 면접을 통해 탐색한 결과, 교사들이 생각하는 스캐폴딩의 기능들을 인지적(개념적, 메타 인지적), 정서적(동기적, 중재적), 전략적 기능으로 범주화할 수 있었고, 교사들은 스캐폴딩의 전략적 기능과 인지적 기능을 정서적 기능보다 더 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 개방적 탐구를 효과적으로 수행하기 위한 함의를 논의하였다.
