An English bulldog, three years old, hospitalzed as vomitting, severe abdominal pain and intermittent body tremor. In blood examination, WBC, amylase, alkaline phosphatase value showed higher than normal value, so we diagnosed as acute pancreatitis. The bulldog was treated with fluid therapy as Ringer's solution, saline and 5% dextrose, and antibiotics as mixed penicillin with streptomycin, and cephazolin. To prevent shock, dexamethasone was medicated in early time. Also the bulldog was medicated as banamine, vitamine K, atropine and cimetidine. When the English bulldog showed improvement we gave him hill's i/d continuously. Through these procedure, the English bulldog recovered completely.

This study investigated a case of a gifted Saudi student, X, who was early detected through Mawhiba (The Saudi Institution of Gifted) when he was eight years old. Then, the journey continued until he became a Tamayuz member and received a scholarship in 2022 to pursue his bachelor's at one of the prestige, high-ranking universities in the USA to study Mathematics and Economics. Lack of information about the status of Saudi verbal gifted maked X case a model to explore the roles of Mawhiba's programs in supporting Saudi verbal giftedness in general and particularly in learning the English language, plus seeking the opportunities Mawhiba provided for Saudi verbal gifted to enrich their giftedness in the English language through providing extended social networking and finally stating the sample's perspective about the opportunities and services Mawhiba provided him. The three core instruments to accumulate elaboration and interpret qualitative and quantitative data were academic records, writing samples, family observation, and a written interview.

Sam Shepard is one of the leading American playwrights who represented Off-Off Broadway in the l960s and 1970s. In his early days, he wrote many experimental plays but later he turned to realism. However, under the superficial realism in his later plays, we find that they contain experimental devices and themes. True West (1980) is the last play of ills realistic family trilogy. This play shows that the tradition of Old West, which is symbolized and replaced by desert, disappeared in the industrialized clues of modern West. The Old West is compared which the modern West through the struggle of two brothers, Lee and Austin. Their father, 'Old Man', ran out on his family and went to the desert but did not succeed there. He shows that he failed in achieving the American Dream. The family appears unusual and demolished The relationships of the characters are not based on love and belief. The family symbolizes the negative aspects of modern American society. After Austin recognizes the actual situation finding that there is no real life in the modern West, he tries to leave the city and his family. He wants to go to the desert in search of a new life. However, in the last tableau Lee blocks the exit and the two brothers square off. It implies that they are doomed to continue their struggle. The message Implies that American society today is lacking the same positive values they once had in the Old West.

This study explored how Korean L2 learners of English utilize multiple acoustic cues (VOT and F0) in perceiving and producing the English alveolar stop with a voicing contrast. Thirty-four 18-year-old high-school students participated in the study. Their English proficiency level was classified as either 'high' (HEP) or 'low' (LEP) according to high-school English level standardization. Thirty different synthesized syllables were presented in audio stimuli by combining a 6-step VOTs and a 5-step F0s. The listeners judged how close the audio stimulus was to /t/ or /d/ in L2 using a visual analogue scale. The L2 /d/ and /t/ productions collected from the 22 learners (12 HEP, 10 LEP) were acoustically analyzed by measuring VOT and F0 at the vowel onset. Results showed that LEP listeners attended to the F0 in the stimuli more sensitively than HEP listeners, suggesting that HEP listeners could inhibit less important acoustic dimensions better than LEP listeners in their L2 perception. The L2 production patterns also exhibited a group-difference between HEP and LEP in that HEP speakers utilized their VOT dimension (primary cue in L2) more effectively than LEP speakers. Taken together, the study showed that the relative cue-weighting strategies in L2 perception and production are closely related to the learner's L2 proficiency level in that more proficient learners had a better control of inhibiting and enhancing the relevant acoustic parameters.

The essay attempts at a critical reading of Thomas Hardy's The Mayor of Casterbridge (1886) in terms of character and socio-cultural change. Juxtaposing the story of Michael Henchard's career with the social and economic changes in the agricultural town, it attempts to elaborate on the complex ways in which Hardy relates the old modes of life and thinking to the material culture. Though the novel is centered on the story of Henchard, the Henchard-Farfrae clash represents the conflict of "old" and "new" modes of socio-economic organization and consciousness. The story of the rustic man of character struggling with his contradictory traits of strong will-power and emotional collapse suggests that Hardy's literary representation of the rural community and the rustic protagonist is deeply rooted in historical reality. However, while there is the interlocking of the changes in personal fate and social change, the representation is a "reinvented" literary construction with complex mediation. Despite the narrator's emphasis on Henchard's immutability, peculiarity, and resilience, his character is, in a complex, mediated way, shaped by the material conditions of English rural community in the late 19th century. The mediating role of Elizabeth-Jane as a narrative resolution embodies Hardy's ambivalent historical position concerning the period undergoing change and conflict.

본 연구에서는 유아영어교육에 참여하고 있는 11명의 어머니들을 대상으로 자녀의 영어교육 경험과 인식을 심층 면담하였다. 이를 통해 자녀 영어교육 과정에서 어머니들이 어떠한 경험을 하며, 이러한 경험이 어떠한 의미로 해석되고 있는지 분석 해 봄으로써 유아영어교육에 참여하고 있는 부모들의 상황을 보다 깊이 있게 탐색하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 분석 결과를 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 어머니들은 글로벌 시대에 영어는 필수라는 신념, 본인의 경험, 예정된 개인적 상황 등에 의해 자녀의 유아영어교육을 선택하여 실행하고 있었다. 또한 연구 참여자들은 학습효과를 체감할 수 있을 때 영어교육 효과를 긍정적으로 인지하였으며 이에 큰 의미부여를 하고 있었다. 둘째, 연구 참여자들은 영어교육 과정에서 자녀의 공부 스트레스, 높은 비용 부담 등의 어려움과 문제점 등을 경험하고 있었다. 셋째, 연구 참여자들은 유아기 자녀들의 발달에 적절한 영어교육을 위한 개인적, 사회적 차원의 방향성과 방법론 제시에 관한 바람을 가지고 있었다. 본 연구는 유아영어교육에 대한 어머니들의 실제적인 경험 및 바람에 관한 비판적 성찰 등을 드러냄으로써, 유아영어교육의 문제점 및 제한점에 대해 지속적으로 관심을 가지고 논의해야 할 필요성이 있음을 시사한다.

This study investigated the development of English phonological awareness in preschool children based on a longitudinal study. It carried out a phonological matching task, mispronunciation task, articulation test, explicit phoneme awareness task, rhyme matching task, and initial-phoneme matching task for three-, four- and five-year-old children. A letter knowledge test was also added to the tests for the 5-year-old children. The results revealed that the development of phonological awareness follows a progression of syllable, then onset and rhyme, then phoneme. It was also revealed that language skills such as vocabulary, detection of mispronunciations, and articulation were partially related to the development of phoneme awareness. Finally, we also found that letter knowledge partially affected the children's development of phonological awareness.

본 연구의 목적은 가정과 학원에서 이루어지는 영아의 조기영어교육 실태를 조사하고 영아어머니들의 영아영어교육에 대한 요구에의 영향 변인을 분석하는 것이었다. 연구대상은 어린이집에 다니는 36개월 미만의 자녀를 둔 어머니 441명이었다. 질문 조사에 의해 수집된 자료로써 빈도분석과 로지스틱 회귀분석을 하였다. 연구결과, 조사대상의 30.9%가 영어교육을 하고 있으며, 주로 어린이집에서의 영어교육을 계기로, 시작시기는 생후 24개월~36개월 이전에 교육을 시작한 것으로 나타났다. 교육실태는 공통적으로 주 1~2회, 회당 30분 미만 실시, 5만원 미만의 월교육비, 교사는 영어를 전공한 한국인, '간단한 회화'를 위해 시청각 자료의 사용, 학습지나 워크북의 높은 활용으로 요약되었다. 한편, 66.0%의 어머니가 영아영어교육에 대해 긍정적 입장을 취하며, 자녀 연령과 월수입이 높을수록, 그리고 신경생리학적, 언어학적, 사회적 영어교육 요구 근거에 동의할수록 교육 요구가 긍정적일 확률이 높았다. 본 연구결과를 통해 영아영어교육에 대한 바람직한 안내가 보다 구체적으로, 시급하게 이루어질 필요가 있다고 시사되었다.

1년령 intact male mixed dog(체중 20 kg)가 복부 팽창과 심각한 운동불내성을 주증으로 내원하였다. 심전도 검사에서 심방정지와 함께 두드러진 서맥(46-79회/분)이 관찰되었다. 실험실 검사상 특별한 이상 소견은 관찰되지 않았다. 혈청 cortisol과 T4농도는 정상 범위였다. 영상검사상 심장비대, 복수, 모든 심장 chamber의 확장, 심방정지, transmitral A-peak 소실, 이첨판과 삼첨판 역류, 정상 좌심실 수축기 직경이 관찰되었다. 검사결과에 근거하여 특발성 심방정지로 진단되었으며 심부전에 준한 일반적인 치료를 실시하였다.

A four-year old, indoor-living neutered male Old English Bulldog was presented for generalized ulcerative dermatitis. Generalized alopecia and multifocal papules and ulcers with crusting were observed mainly in the dorsal trunk. Cytology of the skin lesions revealed a pyogranulomatous inflammation comprising macrophages and nondegenerate neutrophils. Histopathology also revealed a nodular dermatitis characterized by mixed infiltration of monocytes and neutrophils involving the superficial and deep dermis. Neither of bacteria nor fungus was identified in microscopic exam and culture. From those findings, a diagnosis of cutaneous sterile pyogranuloma/granuloma syndrome (SPGS) was made. Treatment with immunosuppressive drugs of prednisone and cyclosporine was performed and visible ulcerative skin lesions were resolved after 4 weeks of initiation of therapy. Treatment with combination of cyclosporine and prednisone may be effective for the case of SPGS.
