Analysis for Economic Induced Effect of Oil and Gas E&P Industry's Business Ecosystem (산업생태계를 고려한 석유·가스개발산업의 경제적 유발효과 분석)

  • In this analysis, from the perspective of the business ecosystem, the economic effects of the oil and gas E&P industry were estimated. Australia, Norway, and the US, which are countries that are active in oil and gas E&P projects, and Japan and Korea, which are not, were analyzed. According to the analysis results, every country has a induced production coefficient of the oil and gas E&P industry greater than 1. Norway and the US have formed an industrial ecosystem across all industries, evenly demanding intermediate inputs for the primary, secondary, and tertiary industries. In contrast, Korea and Japan have a very large input ratio from the tertiary industry and an industrial ecosystem centered on the tertiary industry. It should be considered that the high input ratio of certain industry in business ecosystem determine the scale of the induced effect. When the business ecosystem are formed with many industries evenly, and the induced coefficient is high, it is necessary to increase the amount of final demand of the industry to make the effects of coefficient to increase.

  • The use of packaged skid in oil and gas plant has increased dramatically over the decades, replacing loose supply equipment. Most equipment is installed on structural skid in manufacturer's shop. As Oil and Gas Plants are constructed at inaccessible area, the demands of packaged skids are increased. The packaged skid have advantages comparing to loose supply equipment in inaccessible area. The packaged skid is small complex plant consists of process, mechanical, piping, instrument, electrical and structural steel. This paper examines advantages and problems of packaged skid, based on previous experience. EPC company consider key factors such as manufacturing period, construction periods, equipment quality and costs.

  • Recently orders of project in the field of oil & gas plant have been increased due to raising oil prices and consumptions. Domestic oil & gas companies are expanding into the Middle East area and all over the world. In the field of oil & gas plant, it is important to manage a technical control and a license that is occurred when developing the manufacturing processes and technologies. Because the oil & gas market has a lot of executions of the oversea construction, competitions between the advanced companies is more important. Therefore, we have to adopt systematic management style for achievements of the technical competitive power and the higher position. However, domestic oil & gas plant companies have not enough competitive powers of the license and the design phase. So, they are faced with difficulties of adopting the technology which is maximizing the effect of investments and scheduling a long-range plan. To achieve the technology management and the competitive power, this study proposes a long-range plan through the analysis of execution methods for technology management.

  • This paper deals with a hydraulic fracturing technique, which is one of the methods to maximize the recovery rate and productivity of oil and gas in the petroleum industry. In the hydraulic fracturing, typically water mixed with sand and chemicals is injected into a wellbore in order to create artificial fractures along which formation fluids migrate to the well. In recent years, it is widely used in non-conventional oil and gas such as oil shale and shale gas. Three main stages of the hydraulic fracturing process, the proposed design models for the effective hydraulic fracturing and diagnostics after fracturing treatment are introduced. In addition, this paper introduces reservoir geomechanics to solve various problems in the process of hydraulic fracturing.

  • Unconventional resources are natural resources which require greater than industry-standard levels of technology or investment to exploit the commercial development. The key point is that unconventional resources are lower quality fuel sources and are not as economically viable as crude oil and conventional gas. Over the past 100 years, Conventional oil and gas has been satisfied with the energy demands. But developing countries such as China and India, the introduction of the developed countries and the surge of energy due to the depletion of unconventional energy resources will be the limelight. According to be analyzed in the academic literature to unconventional gas and oil(2000~2012) by the program of 'web of science', the research activities 402 papers in unconventional gas and 1,581 papers in unconventional oil.

Utilization of alternative marine fuels for gas turbine power plant onboard ships

  • Marine transportation industry is undergoing a number of problems. Some of these problems are associated with conventional marine fuel-oils. Many researchers have showed that fuel-oil is considered as the main component that causes both environmental and economic problems, especially with the continuous rising of fuel cost. This paper investigates the capability of using natural gas and hydrogen as alternative fuel instead of diesel oil for marine gas turbine, the effect of the alternative fuel on gas turbine thermodynamic performance and the employed mathematical model. The results showed that since the natural gas is categorized as hydrocarbon fuel, the thermodynamic performance of the gas turbine cycle using the natural gas was found to be close to the diesel case performance. The gas turbine thermal efficiency was found to be 1% less in the case of hydrogen compared to the original case of diesel.

  • It is widely accepted that the prevention of global warming requires significant reductions in greenhouse gases, particularly CO2 emissions. Although fossil fuel-based power plants account for the majority of CO2 emissions, it is urgent to reduce CO2 emissions in industries that emit large amounts of CO2 such as steel, petrochemical, and oil refining. This paper examines the current status of CO2 emission in the domestic oil refining industry and CO2 emission sources in each unit process in the oil refining industry. Focusing on the previously developed CO2 capture process, cases and applicability of greenhouse gas reduction in FCC and hydrogen manufacturing processes, which are major processes constituting the oil refining industry, are reviewed.

  • It is well known that pipelines have the highest capacity and are the safest and least environmentally disruptive form of transporting oil and gas. However, pipeline damages caused by both internal and external corrosion is a major concern threatening the reliability of oil and gas transportation and the soundness of pipeline structure. In this study, we estimated the expected allowable damage defect by comparing the ASTM B31G code which has been developed as the evaluation method of reliability and incident prevention of damaged pipelines based on the amount of loss due to corrosion and the yield strength of materials to a modified theory considering diverse detailed corrosional forms. Furthermore, we suggested the method that estimates the expected life span of used pipelines by utilizing the reliability method based on major variables such as, the depth and length of damage and corrosional rate affecting the life expectancy of pipelines.

  • In these days, oil cost is about 70 US dollars, but, on the day of July. 2008, it was over 140 US dollars. This coast led fisheries industry to increasement of operating coast and made public problems such as non-operation of fishing boats and lockout of the related factories. Thus this paper studies the way to use cheap fuel in order to reduce the fuel cost. Normally fishing boat use Marine Gas Oil. this study explains to use blended oil such as MF 60, 100, 180 instead of MGO.

A Study on the Gas-liquid Multiphase Flow Characteristics of the In-line Type Separator (In-line형 세퍼레이터의 기-액 다상유동 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The subsea separator of an offshore plant for offshore oil and gas development performs the process of separating oil and gas from crude oil produced in the subsea. The oil-gas subsea separator can be divided into a gravity type that separates fluids by gravity and an in-line type that separates fluids using centrifugal force of density. In the case of the deep sea, the development of a small in-line type separator is required due to manufacturing cost and safety problems caused by water pressure. Therefore, in this study, the gas-liquid phase separation efficiency of the subsea separator was identified through the study of the multiphase flow characteristics of the in-line type separator. For the optimal design of the in-line type separator, the shape of the internal swirl element(ISE) was selected first, and the separation efficiency results for each section of the in-line type separator were analyzed. This study was conducted in parallel with experiments and numerical analysis, and it is expected that the reliability and efficiency of the in-line type separator will be improved through the results.
