The purpose of this study was to propose for efficient selection with observation and nomination system and efficient operation of Convergence Science class in a Science Institute for Gifted Youth attached in university. For this purpose, we analyzed the result of entrance exam with observation and nomination system, and the correlation between enterance exam score and achievement to perform at the Convergence Science class. As a result, despite observation and nomination system is highly dependent on observers and recommenders, they have very different perspectives each other. In addition it was founded that selection and education process after admission is inconsistent.
The purpose of this study is to investigate teachers' recognition and to suggest an improvement in the system of teacher's observation and nomination used to selecting gifted and talented students in Science in the Busan Metropolitan School District in 2013 by investigating teachers' recognition of the system and their expressed needs. The results are as follows. First, it was observed that teachers are of the opinion that it is difficult to determine the science gifted students by observation due to their lack of expertise in giftedness and gifted education, the lack of a check list to use, and the difficulty of ensuring the objectivity of the results of the determination. Second, the absence of objective screening tools used for the selection, the selection of gifted students based on their subjective judgment, and the possibility to select students based only on visible manifestations of ability may cause parents to mistrust the system. Thus, institutional support is required to address the concerns of teachers and parents. Third, the teachers who are in charge of observation, nomination, selection and determination need to be trained. After that, at least one of these teachers should be assigned in each school and training should operate continuously and systematically. Lastly, while these things are occurring, the process of observation and nomination of by teachers, which is the basis of pooling gifted students at the level of Busan Metropolitan School District, should be continued.

The purpose of this paper is to identify the correlation of entrance score by observation and nomination system and performance assessment score for the gifted children in IT. In other words, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the reliability of observation and nomination system by analyzing and comparing entrance scores and performance assessment score during the period of attendance for the gifted children in IT. For this purpose, the gifted children are selected and analyzed in a gifted science center attached to a university at Seoul Metropolitan Area. The analysis results show that there is meaningful correlation between entrance score and performance assessment score. That is, if high scores in entrance exam means high scores in performance assessment scores. The result will be useful to trust and extend observation and nomination system for the selection of gifted children in IT.
The purpose of this study is to explore the perception of the observation and nomination system for the identification of the gifted and to find out the importance and practice level perceived by the gifted education teachers using the concept mapping approach. For this, twelve gifted education teachers brainstormed and gathered ideas for the ideal ways of observation and nomination system and the gathered statements were solicited. Multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis were also used. In addition, 112 gifted education teachers rated the importance of and the practice level for the suggested ideas of observation and nomination system. Results were as follows: First, 36 statements were solicited and as a result of concept mapping the suggested observation and nomination system were categorized as 'attainment of professionality', 'attainment of administrative support', 'attainment of fairness', and 'considering points for recommendation.' Second, there were significant differences between the perceived importance levels and the practice levels. Based on the results, imlications of the study were discussed in depth.
This study is to examine the perceptions and attitudes of parents about the teachers' recommendation system through their observations to identify the gifted. We conducted surveys for parents who had elementary school children in Busan metropolitan city and analysed the results to find out about the differences among parents groups in terms of their monthly incomes and opinions on teachers' observation and nomination for the gifted. The results are following; First, approx. 80% of the respondents recognized the changes in the giftedness identification system. Also, 40.5% of the parents positively thought about the teachers' observation and nomination system (positive group), whereas 32.3% of the parents showed their negative opinions about the system (negative group). There were also 27.2% of the parents who did not make their decisions (no-decision-making group). Second, most of the parents accepted that the teachers who were professionally trained in gifted education should be the persons for observing and nominating gifted students. However, significant differences were shown among the different monthly income groups of the parents in regards to who should be the person taking charge of recommending the gifted and how trustworthy this person could be. Third, the positive parents' group mostly expected that as the teachers' observation and nomination system is adopted, expenses for private education would decrease, whereas the negative group and no-decision-making group thought that the opposite result would occur. These results will be helpful for the successful adoption of teachers' observation and recommendation system to identify the gifted in the field of education.
What are the identification criteria elementary school teachers prefer? What are the characteristics of students that teachers consider when nominating them to gifted programs? Will those criteria of identification/nomination differ as to teacher experiences related to gifted education or teacher involvement in the professional development? This study aims to find the answer to these questions. For this purpose, a total of 511 elementary school teachers with a varying degree of experiences with gifted education were recruited from 23 schools in 11 school districts in Seoul. The results show that teachers generally preferred task commitment, creativity, curiosity, and domain specific talents as criteria for identifying gifted students, while perceiving achievement records, total grades, leadership, and general intelligence as less important. Teachers experienced in gifted education or having been involved in professional development perceived curiosity, task commitment, and creativity as more important than teachers without such experiences. The importance-performance analysis of identification criteria indicates that teachers reported high importance on task commitment, curiosity, and creativity, but those factors were less considered in actual nomination. On the contrary, teachers reported low importance on quick learning and achievement(total grades, subject grades), but those were highly considered in nomination. A similar pattern was found in both experienced and nonexperienced teachers although the importance-performance gap was higher for the latter. Implications for teacher nominations and professional development were discussed.
This study provides an illustrative example of using the multivariate generalizability theory. Specifically, it investigates relative effects of each error source, and finds optimal measurement conditions for the number of items within each content domain that maximizes the reliability-like coefficients, such as a generalizability coefficient and an index of dependability. The method is based on teacher recommendation letters and self-introduction letters, using an analytic scoring method in the context of selection of mathematically gifted students by observation and nomination. This study analyzed data from the 2011 academic year in the science education institute for the gifted, which is attached to the university located in the Seoul metropolitan area. It should be noted that the optimal scoring structures of this study are not generalizable to other selection instruments. However, the methodology applied in this study can be utilized to find optimal measurement conditions for the number of raters, the number of content domains, and the number of items in other selection instruments self-developed by many institutions including: the education institutes for the gifted at provincial offices of education, gifted classes, and the science education institutes for the gifted attached to universities in general. In addition, the methodology will provide bases for making informed decisions in selection instruments of the gifted based on measurement traits.
The purpose of this study was to explore five-year-old popular child's behavior patterns through participant observation and to analyze the collected data with qualitative method. One popular child was selected from D child care center of P city in Kyeonggi province. Peer-nomination method was used to select the popular child. Participant observation was conducted from April to November in 2017 through 36 observations in free choice activities. As well as observation records, formal and informal interview records with parents and teachers, parent counseling journals, observation journals, and child's personal records were used to understand the popular child. Three steps, including recording, coding, and making themes, were conducted to analyze the data. The main results of the research were as follows: The behavior patterns of popular child in this study presented both positive and negative sides. The positive behavior patterns included consideration, responsibility, high concentration, and a sense of humor. The negative behavior patterns showed control and exclusion. This study has implications for development of educational program and environment to enhance positive peer relationship.
The purpose of this study was to examine mathematical performance predictions with gifted behavior ratings by teachers and parents. The participants of this study were 787 elementary 5th and 6th grade gifted students who took the mathematical performance test. This study asked gifted teachers and parents to rate gifted behaviors of these gifted students with using SRBCSS-R (Renzulli et al., 2002, 2009). The results indicated that gifted teachers rated gifted behaviors of the 5th grade gifted students higher than the 6th grade gifted students, except in 'mathematical characteristics.' Gifted teachers rated 'learning' gifted behaviors of male gifted students higher than those of female gifted students. In the meanwhile, parents of the 5th grade gifted students rated gifted behaviors higher than parents of the 6th grade gifted students in 'learning' and 'motivation.' In comparing the gifted behavior ratings by gifted teachers and parents, there were significant differences in 'learning' and 'motivation' ratings. That is, gifted teachers rated significantly higher 'learning' and 'motivation' of gifted students than parents. When this study explored the prediction of gifted behavior ratings by gifted teachers and parents on mathematical performances of gifted students, 'learning' and 'mathematical characteristics' ratings by gifted teachers predicted the mathematical performances of gifted students.
This paper introduces the characteristics of the records and archives management of Korea from Joseon dynasty to now. This paper also explains historical background of making the records and archives management in Joseon dynasty. This paper introduces the process of establishment of modern records management system by adopting records management system and public administration of USA after liberation in 1945. The Joseon bureaucrats established systematic methodologies for managing and arranging the records. Jeseon dynasty managed its records systematically since it was a bureaucratic regime. It is also noticeable that the famous Joseonwangjosilrok(Annals of Joseon dynasty) came out of the power struggles for the control of the national affairs between the king and the nobility during the time of establishment of the dynasty. Another noticeable feature of the records tradition in Joseon dynasty was that the nobility recorded their experience and allowed future generations use and refer their experiences and examples when they performed similar business. The records of Joseon period are the historical records which recorded contemporary incidents and the compilers expected the future historians evaluate the incidents they recorded. In 1894, the reformation policy of Gaboh governments changed society into modernity. The policy of Gaboh governments prescribed archive management process through 'Regulation(命令頒布式)'. They revised the form of official documents entirely. They changed a name of an era from Chinese to unique style of Korean, and changed original Chinese into Korean or Korean-Chinese together. Also, instead of a blank sheet of paper they used printed paper to print the name of each office. Korea was liberated from Japanese Imperialism in 1945 and the government of Republic of Korea was established in 1948. In 1950s Republic of Korea used the records management system of the Government-General of Joseon without any alteration. In the late of 1950's Republic of Korea constructed the new records management system by adopting records management system and public administration of USA. However, understanding of records management was scarce, so records and archives management was not accomplished. Consequently, many important records like presidential archives were deserted or destroyed. A period that made the biggest difference on National Records Management System was from 1999 when was enacted. Especially, it was the period of President Roh's five-year tenure called Participation Government (2003-2008). The first distinctive characteristic of Participation Government's records management is that it implemented governance actively. Another remarkable feature is a nomination of records management specialists at public institutions. The Participation Government also legislated (completely revised) . It led to a beginning of developing records management in Republic of Korea.
