Purpose: The aim of this study was to testify correlations between critical thinking disposition and decision making styles. Methods: The subjects of this study were 193 freshman nursing students in the 1 nursing school located in Incheon area. The data were collected by self-reporting questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation coefficient analysis. Results: The score of critical thinking disposition was revealed 3.96 points. The highest was inquisitiveness, the lowest was systematicity. The most frequent decision making style was revealed a rational decision making. The next was dependant decision making, intuitional decision making as follows. The critical thinking disposition and rational decision making had a statistically significant positive correlation. However the critical thinking disposition and dependant decision making had a statistically significant negative correlation. Conclusion: With these findings, we are found that the more increasing critical thinking disposition, the more developing rational decision making. It will suggested that the program for increasing nursing student's critical thinking disposition focused on systematicity, analyticity and truth seeking in critical thinking sub categories.

Self-efficacy (${\beta}=.143$, p<.001), type of decision-making styles rational type (${\beta}=.180$, p<.001), intuitive type (${\beta}=.137$, p<.001), dependent type (${\beta}=-.236$, p<.001) and sex (${\beta}=-.086$, p=.023), school grades (${\beta}=.086$, p=.033), and satisfaction of nursing major (${\beta}=.209$, p<.001) were significant predictors of career decision level. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop effective career support programs according to type of decision-making styles, sex, school grades, motivation to improve nursing students' self-efficacy and satisfaction in the nursing major.
The purpose of this study was to describe decision making model of 180 public health nurses in Korea and their knowledge structure for decision making. The differences of decision making models by nurse's knowledge structure were also tested. Research concepts were measured using the instrument based on systemic and interpretive decision making approaches that were developed by Lauri & Salantera (1995). The results were as follows. 1. The public health nurses turned to, most commonly, a mixed practical-theoretical knowledge structure (45.9%), followed by practical knowledge (32%) and theoretical knowledge (22.1%). 2. The six different decision making models were identified. These were named for decision making theories and nursing process. These were client-oriented decision making, rule-oriented systemic decision making, wholistic and intuitive decision making, decision making depending on subjective view and experience, systemic decision making for defining problems. 3. The public nurses who had practical and practical-theoretical knowledge structure and community health practitioner (CHP) retold that decision making depends on subjective view and experience. Also the public health nurses who had 5~19 years clinical experience represented hypothetico-deductive decision making for defining problems.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity of nursing students. Methods: Data were collected from 543 students by means of self reported questionnaires about satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity from November 26 to 30, 2012. Results: The average score of satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity of nursing students was 3.56 on a 5 point-scale, 3.28 on a 5 point-scale, and 2.65 on a 4 point-scale respectively. There were significant correlation between satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity of nursing students. Career identity could be explained 26.2% by satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy, admission motivation, and school grade. Conclusion: Career identity was correlated with satisfaction in major and career decision-making self-efficacy in nursing students. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an effective intervention program to improve nursing students's satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity.
Purpose: The purpose of this research was to describe the decision making experience of VIP ward nurses in the clinical practice adjustment process. The research question was about "how nurses adjust their clinical practice to nursing situations and develop decision making process in a VIP ward." Method: The methodology of collecting and analyzing the data was based on the grounded theory of Strauss and Corbin(1998). The data was collected through in-depth interviews with 10 nurses from July to November, 2007. Results: The core category of nursing care decision making process was named as "adjusting with flexibility and deepened insight." The clinical practice adjustment process in nursing care decision making has progressed through four preceding interlocking phases: 1) dependent phase, 2) defensive phase, 3) independent phase, 4) integrative phase. These phases were classified by the level of nurses' dependency, proactivity, presupposition and integration. Conclusion: The result of this study indicated that nurse's decision making depended on their experiences and the nature of social context in which nursing occurs. Therefore, it is important to elaborate an effective training program for nurses to develop the phases of nursing care decision making.
Purpose: This study aimed to explore professional autonomy, nursing work environment, and clinical decision making ability and to determine predictors of clinical decision making ability among clinical nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used in this study and 263 clinical nurses were selected from advanced-level hospitals with over 500 beds located in D metropolitan city. Independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and hierarchical multiple regression analyses were done with the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. Results: Clinical nurses reported moderate levels of professional autonomy, nursing work environment and clinical decision making ability. Marital status, professional autonomy and nursing work environment accounted for 25% of variance in clinical decision making ability required in various clinical settings. Importantly, being married, higher level of professional autonomy, and greater satisfaction with work environment were significantly associated with better decision making ability. Conclusion: Findings indicate that improving the quality of decision making in the healthcare settings requires awareness of the multiple effects of individual, occupational and environmental features. Nurses' ability to make effective clinical decisions may rely on personal characteristics, the degree of autonomy in their job, and nurses' satisfaction with their work environment.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to confirm the relationship between nursing students' nursing professionalism and ethical decision-making confidence, and to clarify the mediating effect of moral sensitivity which has a mutual influence on nursing professionalism and ethical decision-making confidence. Methods: The data collection for this study was conducted from January 23 to February 1, 2021 with junior and senior nursing students enrolled in five nursing departments in two regions. The data collected in this study were analyzed using the IBM SPSS statistics version 23.0 program. Results: Through this study, it was found that nursing professionalism (β=.47) and moral sensitivity (β=.32) acted as important influencing factors on the ethical decision-making confidence of nursing students, with an explanatory power of 31.2%. In addition, it was confirmed that there was a partial mediating effect of moral sensitivity in the relationship between the nursing professionalism and ethical decision-making confidence of nursing students, and the mediating effect coefficient of moral sensitivity was .16. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it is suggested to prepare a plan to increase ethical decision-making confidence and moral sensitivity when planning interventions to improve nursing professionalism in nursing students.
