  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors that affect care left undone among newly graduated nurses. Methods: Participants were 236 newly graduated nurses with less than 1 year of experience from 5 general hospitals in Busan. Self-report questionnaires were completed by nurses between October and November, 2016. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis with the SPSS/WIN 25.0 Program. Results: The mean score for care left undone was $2.18{\pm}1.43$. Factors influencing care left undone were monthly income and working environment. Regression analysis showed that working environment and monthly income explained 11.0% of the variance while controlling for participants' demographics and work characteristics. Conclusion: The findings suggest that better working environment and appropriate monthly income are important to reduce care left undone in hospitals. The quality of nursing and patient safety may be ensured by reducing care left undone.

  • Identifying the factors between nursing work environment and emotional labor to job satisfaction for nurses in public hospitals, 176 nurses who worked at six medical centers in Gyeonggi-do as study subjects were selected. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, t-test, post-test Scheffe's test, and multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN program(23.0). In the results to identify the factors that influence the job satisfaction, the better the nursing work environment(β=.797, p=.000) and the lower the degree of emotional labor(β=-.089, p=.045), the higher the job satisfaction. Additionally, job satisfaction increased when nurses cared the fewer number of patients. To increase job satisfaction for nurses, the policy should be considered to care fewer patients per a nurse, improve work environment and decrease emotional labor.

  • Purpose: The study examined core job characteristics and job preference to explain work performance among critical care nurses. The theoretical model was constructed based on the job characteristics model with core job characteristics as exogenous variables, and work performance and job preference as endogenous variables. Methods: A total of 228 hospital nurses participated in the study from May to September, 2015. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results: The model showed a good fit to the data with $x^2/df=2.90$, goodness of fit index = .91, root mean square residual = .20, comparative fit index = .93, and incremental fit index = .93. The core job characteristics explained 64% of the variance in job preference. The core job characteristics and job preference explained 52% of the variance in work performance. Conclusions: The core job characteristics can explain the work performance among critical care nurses through job preference. Effective strategies to improve the work performance among critical care nurses should focus on the application of the core job characteristic into a productive work environment. Further studies are warranted to explore the role of job preference of critical care nurses in promoting their work performance.

Data was collected through a structuralized questionnaire survey conducted on small and medium-sized hospital nurses. The results of this study indicated calling had positive correlation with resilience, leader-member exchange, and nursing work environments, while resilience had positive correlation with leader-member exchange and nursing work environments. There also was positive correlation between leader-member exchange and nursing work environments. Accordingly, there is a need to develop a program to offer motivation to increase calling and resilience from the personal perspective of the small and medium-sized hospital nurses. In addition, a program is necessary to strengthen continuous leadership of the hospital administrator to improve the leader-member exchange and nursing work environment from organizational perspective.
