  • A novel memory is reported, in which $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ (GST) has been used as a floating gate. The threshold voltage was shifted due to the phase transition of the GST layer, and the hysteretic behavior is opposite to that arising from charge trapping. Finite Element Modeling (FEM) was adapted, and a new simulation program was developed using c-interpreter, in order to analyze the small shift of threshold voltage. The results show that GST undergoes a partial phase transformation during the process of RESET or SET operation. A large $V_{TH}$ shift was observed when the thickness of the GST layer was scaled down from 50 nm to 25 nm. The novel 1 transistor PCM (1TPCM) can achieve a faster write time, maintaining a smaller cell size.

  • This paper presents the results of the study on the novel micro mixer. Existing micro mixer is classified as active mixing and passive mixing by the mixing principles. Both mixing principles have problems. For solving these problems, this research has developed the novel micro mixers based on a totally different principle compared with former mixers. They not only have a simpler structure than former ones but also are able to achieve high mixing efficiency in spite of low power consumption due to using Lorentz Force. In addition, they are designed to increase the efficiency of mixing by changing the rotating direction of fluid with a polar switching circuit. Driving forces of the mixer are Lorentz force and a moving force of fluid due to electrophoresis. Because the efficiency of mixer is affected by electrode shape, several models have been made. The computer simulation has been made to estimate the efficiency of each mixer.

  • In this paper, a novel neighborhood metric of histogram equalization (HE) algorithm for contrast enhancement is presented. We present a refinement of HE using neighborhood metrics with a general framework which orders pixels based on a sequence of sorting functions which uses both global and local information to remap the image greylevels. We tested a novel sorting key with the suggestion of using the original image greylevel as the primary key and a novel neighborhood distinction metric as the secondary key, and compared HE using proposed distinction metric and other HE methods such as global histogram equalization (GHE), HE using voting metric and HE using contrast difference metric. We found that our method can preserve advantages of other metrics, while reducing drawbacks of them and avoiding undesirable over-enhancement that can occur with local histogram equalization (LHE) and other methods.

  • This paper examines the results from three-dimensional dynamic finite element analysis undertaken to develop a new dynamically installed anchor (DIA). Several candidate shapes of new DIAs were selected after an investigation into previous researches of existing DIA designs. The performances of selected DIAs during the installation and loading in non-homogeneous clay were investigated through large deformation finite element (LDFE) analyses. Findings were compared to the current anchors in operation (i.e., Torpedo and Omni-Max DIA) to assess the viability of the new designs in the field. Overall, the anchor embedment depths of the novel DIAs lied under the results of OMNI-Max DIA. And also, the tracked anchor trajectory confirmed that, the novel DIAs dove deeper with stiffer travelling angle, compared to the OMNI-Max DIA. These elements are more critical and beneficial especially in a field where the achieved embedment depths are generally low.

  • New green-emitting Sr4ScAl3O10:Eu2+ phosphor was prepared using a novel melt quenching synthesis method. The temperature of raw materials irradiated with the strong light of the Xe arc-lamp was rose up to about 2273 K, followed by a sharp drop in the temperature after turn off the lamp. This method is a useful tool for rapid screening of novel phosphor materials.

  • To meet the high current load requirement from the high energy density realized by metal oxide and high power density graphite, we propose a novel hybrid supercapacitor consisting of Nb2O5 and KS6 graphite in 1.0 M LiPF6-EC:DEC (1:2). This new system exhibits a sloping voltage profile from 2.7 to 3.5 V during charging and presents a high operating voltage plateau between 1.5 and 3.5 V during discharging. The cell was tested at a current density of 100 mA/g with a cut-off voltage between 3.0 and 1.0 V. This novel energy storage system delivers the highest initial discharge capacity of 55 mAh/g and exhibits a good cycle performance.

  • This paper describes a novel converter to implement high-speed binary-to-residue conversion for moduli 2$^{n}$ - 1, 2$^{n}$ , 2$^{n}$ +2$^{\alpha}$/($\alpha$$\in${0,1,…,n-1}) without using look-up table. In our implementation, the high-speed converter can be achieved, because of the modulo addition time is independent of the word length of operands by using the Signed-Digit (SD) adders inside the modulo adders. For a LSI implementation of residue SD number system with ordinary binary system, the proposed binary-to-residue converter is the efficient circuit.cient circuit.

  • In this paper, a novel algorithm for PD localization in power transformers based on wavelet de-noising technique and energy criterion is proposed. Partial discharge is one of the main failures in power transformers. The localization of which could be very useful for maintenance systems. Acoustic signals due to a PD event are transient, irregular and non-repetitive. So wavelet transform is an efficient tool for this signal processing problem that gives a time-frequency demonstration. First, different wavelet based de-noising methods are analyzed. Then, a reasonable structure for threshold value determining and applying manner on signals is presented. Evaluated errors are good evidences for choices. Next, applying the elimination low energy frequency bands is discussed and developed as a de-noising method. Time differences between signals are used for PD localization. Different ways in time arrival detection are introduced and a novel approach in energy criterion method is presented. At the end, the quality of algorithm is verified through the different assays in lab.

  • To reduce the expenses for development a novel drug, systems biology has been studied actively. Target prediction, a part of systems biology, contributes to finding a new purpose for FDA(Food and Drug Administration) approved drugs and development novel drugs. In this paper, we propose a classification model for predicting novel target genes based on relation between target genes and disease related genes. After collecting known target genes from TTD(Therapeutic Target Database) and disease related genes from OMIM(Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man), we analyzed the effect of target genes on disease related genes based on PPI(Protein-Protein Interactions) network. We focused on the distinguishing characteristics between known target genes and random target genes, and used the characteristics as features for building a classifier. Because our model is constructed using information about only a disease and its known targets, the model can be applied to unusual diseases without similar drugs and diseases, while existing models for finding new drug-disease associations are based on drug-drug similarity and disease-disease similarity. We validated accuracy of the model using LOOCV of ten times and the AUCs were 0.74 on Alzheimer's disease and 0.71 on Breast cancer.

  • In the course of screening for new aminopeptidase M inhibitors which were expected to be analgesic, immunopotentiating, or anti-metastatic agents, the novel synthetic substance MR-387C[(2S,3R)-3-amino-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutanoyl-L-valyl-L-prolyl-L-leucine] (M.W. 504 daltons) was obtained. It was competitive with the substrate and had an $IC_{50}$ value of $0.04\;{\mu}m/ml$ ($7.9{\times}10^{-8}\;M$) and an inhibition constant ($K_i$) of $3.8{\times}10^{-8}\;M$. This novel MR-387C was compared with various known inhibitors of aminopeptidase M. It inhibited the enzyme more strongly than any other microorganism-originated inhibitor, except probestin.
