This paper presents a new approach to the AFR (Air-to-Fuel Ratio) control problem, which is based on the wide-band oxygen sensor output. The dedicated nonlinear controller is based on the feedback lineaization technique. It is well known that the feedback linearizing control technique requires an exact model of the plant for the cancellation of plant nonlinearities. A sliding mode control scheme is applied which can effectively compensate the modeling uncertainties. The measurement time delay of an oxygen sensor limits the gain of the feedback controller. Hence, time delay compensation procedure is necessary for the improvement of control performance. The Smith predictor is adopted to compensate the effects of time delay. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed controllers can effectively reduce the transient peaks of AFR in spite of fast tip-in and tip-out maneuvers of the throttle.

We propose and analyze a robust adaptive fuzzy controller for nonlinear systems without a priori knowledge of the sign of the input gain function. No assumptions are made about the type of nonlinearities of the system, except that such nonlinearities are smooth. The uncertain nonlinearities are captured by the fuzzy systems that have been proven to be universal approximators. The proposed control scheme completely overcomes the singularity problem that occurs in the indirect adaptive feedback linearizing control. Projection in the estimated parameters and switching in the control input are both not required. The stability of the closed-loop system is guaranteed in the Lyapunov viewpoint.

In this paper, we develop a functional test model for magnetic bearing wheels. The functional test model is an electromagnetic levitation system that has three degree of freedom, which consists of one axial suspension from gravity and two axes gimbaling capability to small angels. A nonlinear controller with high-gain observers is proposed and the real-time experiment results show that the rotor is accurately levitated at the desired position and well-balanced, which is a suitable result for the potential use an magnetic bearing wheels. Also, the proposed scheme exhibits better performance when it is compared with the conventional PID control method.

This paper proposes a robust high-gain observer design scheme for nonlinear systems and its stability is analyzed based on Lyapunov theory. It is assumed that their states are unmeasurable. The proposed high-gain observer has the integrator of the estimation error in dynamics. It improves the performance of high-gain observers and makes the proposed observer robust to noisy measurements, uncertainties and peaking phenomenon as well. Its stability is analyzed by the Lyapunov approach. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, it is applied to output feedback controllers and some comparative simulation result with the existed observer based output feedback controllers and state feedback controllers is given.
Previously obtained results of L$_{2}$-gain and H$_{\infty}$ control via state feedback of nonlinear systems are extended to a class of nonlinear system with uncertainties. The required information about the uncertainties is that the uncertainties are bounded in Euclidian norm by known functions of the system state. The conditions are characterized in terms of the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi equations or inequalities (HJEI). An algorithm for finding an approximate local solution of Hamilton-Jacobi equation is given. This results and algorithm are illustrated on a numerical example..

This paper deals with the robust nonlinear controller design using output feedback for a Chua circuit which is one of the well-known nonlinear models. First, an exosystem for reference signal tracking is defined, and error dynamic equations are derived from the differentiation of the output tracking error equation. The normal sliding surface is modified using the integral type servo compensator. The parameters in the equations of the modified sliding surface and servo compensator are determined by using the Hurwitz condition of stability. Especially the error signals can't be obtained directly from the output because all parameters are assumed unknown. So instead, a high gain observer is designed. From this estimated error signals, a stabilizing controller is designed. Simulation is done for demonstrating the effectiveness of the suggested algorithm.

This paper proposes the decentralized dynamic output feedback controller for discrete-time nonlinear interconnected systems using Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. Through T-S fuzzy model of each subsystem, the decentralized dynamic output feedback controller is designed. By the closed-loop subsystems with controller, it represents the linear matrix inequality (LMI) for stability of whole interconnected system. The value of control gain are obtained by LMI. An example is given to show the experimentally verification discussed throughout the paper.

This paper proposes the alternative observer and controller design scheme based on T-S fuzzy model. Nonlinear systems are represented by fuzzy models since fuzzy logic systems are universal approximators. In order to estimate the unmeasurable states of a given unknown nonlinear system, T-S fuzzy modeling method is applied to get the dynamics of an observation system. T-S fuzzy system uses the linear combination of the input state variables and the modeling applications of them to various kinds of nonlinear systems can be found. The proposed indirect adaptive fuzzy observer based on T-S fuzzy model can cope with not only unknown states but also unknown parameters. The proposed controller is based on a simple output feedback method. Therefore, it solves the singularity problem, without any additional algorithm, which occurs in the inverse dynamics based on the feedback linearization method. The adaptive fuzzy scheme estimates the parameters and the feedback gain comprising the fuzzy model representing the observation system. In the process of deriving adaptive law, the Lyapunov theory and Lipchitz condition are used. To show the performance of the proposed observer and controller, they are applied to an inverted pendulum on a cart.

We consider a single-input-single-output nonlinear system which is represented in a normal form. The model contains the uncertainty. A high-gain observer is used to estimate the states variables to reject a modeling uncertainty We design the globally bounded output feedback controller using sliding mode control to stabilize the closed-loop system. The globally bounded output feedback controller reduce the peaking in the states variables. The proposed method give a more design freedom in the design of the globally bounded controller than that of the previous work.
