  • In order to realize the multi-objective control of single-input multi-output nonlinear differential algebraic system (NDAS) and to improve the dynamic characteristics and static accuracy, a design method of nonlinear control with multi-objective feedback (NCMOF) is proposed, the principium of this method to arrange system poles, as well as its nature to coordinate dynamic characteristics and static accuracy of the system are analyzed in detail. Through NCMOF design method, the multi-objective control of the system is transformed into linear space, and then it is effectively controlled under the nonlinear feedback control law, the problem to balance all control objectives caused by less input and more output of the system thus is solved. Applying NCMOF design method to generator excitation system, the nonlinear excitation control law with terminal voltage, active power and rotor speed as objective outputs is designed. Simulation results show that NCMOF can not only improve the dynamic characteristics of generator, but also damp the mechanical oscillation of a generator in transient process. Moreover, NCMOF can control the terminal voltage of the generator to the setting value with no static error under typical disturbances.

  • The optimal design of the squeeze film damper (SFD) for rotor system has been studied in previous researches. However, these researches have not been considering jumping or nonlinear phenomena of a rotor system with SFD. This paper represents an optimization technique for linear and nonlinear response of a simple rotor system with SFDs by using a hybrid GA-SA algorithm which combined enhanced genetic algorithm (GA) with simulated annealing algorithm (SA). The damper design parameters are the radius, length and radial clearance of the damper. The objective function is to minimize the transmitted load between SFD and foundation at the operating and critical speeds of the rotor system with SFD which has linear and nonlinear unbalance responses. The numerical results show that the transmitted load of the SFD is greatly reduced in linear and nonlinear responses for the rotor system.

  • With an active structural involvement in spiral case structure (SCS) that is always the design and research focus of hydroelectric power plant (HPP), the compressible membrane sandwiched between steel spiral case and surrounding reinforced concrete was often assumed to be linear elastic material in conventional design analysis of SCS. Unfortunately considerable previous studies have proved that the foam material serving as membrane exhibits essentially nonlinear mechanical behavior. In order to clarify the effect of membrane (foam) material's nonlinear stress-strain behavior on SCS, this work performed a case study on SCS with a compressible membrane using the ABAQUS code after a sound calibration of the employed constitutive model describing foam material. In view of the successful capture of fitted stress-strain curve of test by the FEM program, we recommend an application and dissemination of the simulation technique employed in this work for membrane material description to structural designers of SCS. Even more important, the case study argues that taking into account the nonlinear stress-strain response of membrane material in loading process is definitely essential. However, we hold it unnecessary to consider the membrane material's hysteresis and additionally, employment of nonlinear elastic model for membrane material description is adequate to the structural design of SCS. Understanding and accepting these concepts will help to analyze and predict the structural performance of SCS more accurately in design effort.

  • This paper presents the state feedback control design for discrete time nonlinear systems where there exists a time delay in input. It is shown that under some boundedness condition, the time delay nonlinear systems can be transformed into the time delay linear systems with time varying parameters. Sufficient conditions for existence of stabilizing state feedback controller are characterized by linear matrix inequalities. Finally, an illustrative example is given in order to show the effectiveness of our design method.

  • This paper presents a robust nonlinear autopilot design method based on dynamic inversion and PI(Proportional-Integral) control law. The new controller structure which is different from previous work is composed of classical linear PI control law and nonlinear fast dynamic inversion. A pitch axis model of highly maneuverable missiles and a linearized model for designing Pl controller are presented. The performance of proposed method is illustrated via nonlinear simulations including aerodynamic uncertainties and actuator dynamics.

  • In this paper, the properties and the design procedures of the internal model control (IMC) structures are discussed and a new nonlinear IMC(NIMC) strategy is proposed. The IMC controllers are simply inverse controller in principle but the development of a NIMC poses difficulties due to the inherent complexity of nonlinear systems. Existing design mehtods are a few and not easy to implement. The proposed approach is using multiple linear models, linear IMC controllers, and swiching scheme instead of using nonlinear model/controller. The advantages of the new approach are that we can use linear IMC mehtod which are now well estabilished and need not global nonlinear models.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive control technique for the autopilot design of STT missile. Dynamics of the missile is highly nonlinear and the equilibrium point is vulnerable to change due to fast maneuvering. Therefore nonlinear control techniques are desirable for the autopilot design of the missile. The nonlinear controller requires the exact model to obtain satisfactory performance. Generally a look-up table is used for the dynamic coefficients of a missile, so there must be coefficients error during actual flight, and the performance of the nonlinear controller using these data can be degraded. The proposed adaptive control technique compensates the nonlinear controller with modeling error resulting from the error of aerodynamic data and disturbance. To investigate the usefulness, the proposed method is applied to autopilot design of STT missile through simulations.

  • This paper presents the observer design method for discrete-time nonlinear systems with delayed output. It is shown that by considering a nonlinear term of error dynamics as an additional state variable, the discrete-time nonlinear error dynamics with time delay can be transformed into the discrete-time linear one with time delay. Sufficient conditions for existence of state observer are characterized by linear matrix inequalities. Finally, an illustrative example is given in order to show the effectiveness of our design method.
