  • The purpose of this convergence study was to examine the effects of smart learning on learner's participation, academic self-efficacy and task value in nursing education. The study was designed using a nonequivalent control group no-synchronized design. The subjects of this study consisted of 86 experimental group and 95 control group who were nursing students. Data were collected from March 2 to June 8. 2018. The data were analyzed using the spss 18.0 program to perform independent t-test. There were not statistically significant differences in learner's participation(t=1.065, p=.288) but were statistically significant differences in academic self-efficacy(t=2.668, p=.008) and task value(t=2.070, p=.040). Therefore, the smart learning was effective in increasing academic self-efficacy and task value for nursing students. The smart learning is expected to be useful as effective teaching and learning strategies in nursing education.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of a Motivation Enhancement for Smoking Cessation Program on middle school students' knowledge regarding smoking, self-efficacy, and daily amount of smoking. The study used a nonequivalent control group pre-post-test design and included 47 students who smoke from two middle schools located in city U as subjects. Subjects were separated into two groups, an experimental group with 23 students and a control group with 24 students. Data were collected from February 19, 2018 to May 11, 2018 and analyzed using the IBM SRSS/win 24.0 program to conduct a t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test, Fisher's exact test, and a paired t-test. After subjects went through the Motivation Enhancement for Smoking Cessation Program, their knowledge regarding smoking (t= 3.38, p=0.002), self-efficacy (t= -3.37, p=0.002), and their daily amount of smoking (t=3.38, p=0.002) showed significant changes. The results indicate that the Motivation Enhancement for Smoking Cessation Program is effective at increasing subjects' knowledge regarding smoking and self- efficacy while decreasing their daily amount of smoking. Therefore, to induce cessation of adolescent smoking, Motivation Enhancement for Smoking Cessation Programs tailored to each student should be held.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the feeling state guided imagery(FSGI) and end state guided imagery(ESGI) on stress and performance of an intramuscular injection of nursing students. Method: The design was a time series with a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest study. Data was collected from the 23 rd to the 25th of Nov. 2004. The subjects of this study were 40 female sophomores (21 for the ESGI, 19 for the FSGI). The instruments used in this study were the Visual Analogue Scale for Stress and the Nursing Skill Performance Check-list on Intramuscular Injection developed by the researchers(10 items). Guided imagery was provided through audiotapes for 8 minutes. A pretest was given before applying the guided imagery, posttest 1 was performed after the intervention, posttest 2 was performed before the intramuscular injection and then evaluation of the performance of the intramuscular injection was done. Data was analyzed using t-test, and Repeated Measures ANOVA. Result: The level of stress for those who received the ESGI and FEGI was not significant and the level of the nursing skill performance for those who received the ESGI was significantly higher than that of students who received the FEGI. Conclusion: The use of ESGI has an effect on learning psychomotor nursing skills and further research is needed on stress.

  • This study was conducted to develop a 26-week obesity management program and examine the effects of this program on obesity index (body mass index, fat mass percentage, and triglyceride) and psychological variables, self-esteem, dietary self-efficacy, physical activity self-efficacy, and body image among 46 4th-6th obese elementary school children with a BMI above $20kg/m^2$ using a nonequivalent control group quasi-experimental design (experimental group=23, control group=23). This program included a 12-week intensive course (12 times for group education on obesity, exercise, and nutrition, 36 times for practicing diet and physical exercise, and 5 times for psychological counseling) and a 14-week follow-up course (3 times for group education, 3 times for checking diet and physical exercise, and 1 time for psychological counseling. The collected data were analyzed by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, chi-squared test, Fisher's exact probability, t-test, and ANCOVA. There were above normal values in body mass index ($20kg/m^2$), fat mass percentage (15-20%), and triglyceride tolerance ($90mg/d{\ell}$) in experimental group and control group. The body mass index (F=94.869, p<.001), fat mass percentage (F=37.361, p<.001), and triglyceride tolerance (F=7.907, p= .007) were significantly lower, while self-esteem (F=19.661, p<.001), dietary self-efficacy (F=16.942, p<.001), physical activity self-efficacy (F=9.363, p= .004), and body image (F=9.782, p= .003) were significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group after 26 weeks. This study provides evidence that the 26-weeks obesity management program is an effective nursing intervention for managing obesity and psychological variables of obese elementary school children.
