The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of various thickness of porcelain on shear bond strength between metal coping and porcelain. So, various thickness of feldspathic porcelain and heat-pressed porcelain were built up and compared. 120 metal cube($4{\times}4{\times}4mm$) specimens were prepared. 60 specimens were applied to feldspathic porcelain and the others were applied to heat-pressed porcelain by 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm and 3.5mm thickness. The measurement of shear bond strength was performed by Instron universal testing machine. The following results were obtained from this study. 1. As thickness of feldspathic porcelain increases, shear bond strength has decreased. Feldspathic specimens with 1mm porcelain thickness were significantly stronger than other feldspathic subgroups. 2. There was no significant difference of shear bond strength according to porcelain thickness in heat-pressed porcelain group. 3. In comparison between subgroups with same thickness, feldspathic porcelain group had stronger shear bond strength than heat-pressed porcelain. There were significant difference between 1mm and 3mm porcelain thickness group. 4. In almost cases, fracture surface was found on both metal and porcelain surfaces. As thickness of porcelain was increased, metal exposure was decreased.

Purpose: This study compared the shear bond strength of heat pressed and feldspathic porcelain to metal. Through thermocycling, the clinical aspect of heat pressed porcelain fused metal was estimated. Materials and Methods: 90 non-precious metal specimens were made ($4{\times}4{\times}8 mm$) and divided to three groups. All spicimens were treated and built-up with the porcelain ($4{\times}4{\times}3 mm$) by 2 different methods according to group: Group I: $Inspiration^{(R)}$, Group II: Ivoclar, IPS $Inline^{(R)}PoM$, Group III: GC Initial IQ-One $Body^{(R)}PoM$. The half of each group's specimens were thermocycled. All specimens' shear bond strength were measured by Instron universal testing machine. Exact measuring point was far 1 mm from porcelain/metal interface to the porcelain side. For the statistical analysis, 2-way ANOVA was used. Results: In no-thermocycling specimens, the shear bond strength showed no statistical significance between each group (P > 0.05). In comparison between nothermocycling and thermocycling specimens in each group, the shear bond strength was decreased according to thermocycling, but there was no statistical significance (P > 0.05). In thermocycling specimens, there was no statistical significance between each group (P > 0.05). Conclusion: In feldspathic porcelain and other two types heat pressed porcelain, there was no statistical difference in the shear bond strength of porcelain to metal. The heat pressed porcelain seems to be clinically useful for the aspect of the shear bond strength.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate their mechanical properties after laser-welding or soldering of precious and non-precious dental alloys. For this study, 30 Co-Cr alloy specimens, 15 gold alloy specimens, 15 palladium alloy specimens were casted and seperated on the middle area. 15 sperated Co-Cr specimens and 15 seperated gold alloy specimens were laser welded (GW Group). 15 sperated Co-Cr specimens and 15 sperated gold alloy specimens were soldered by coventional soldering method (GS Group). 15 sperated Co-Cr specimens and 15 seperated palladium alloy specimens were laser welded (PW Group). 15 sperated Co-Cr specimens and 15 sperated palladium alloy specimens were soldered by coventional soldering method (PS Group). Tensile strength, 0.2% yield strength, % elongation were recorded in nine specimens of each group. Bending strength were record in six specimens of each group. These data for four groups were subjected to a two-way analysis of variance(ANOVA). The fracture locations, fractured surfaces were examined by SEM(scanning electron microscope). The results were as following: 1) In the same alloy combination, the tensile strength and 0.2% yield strength and of the laser welded group with same metal combination were significantly less than soldered groups(p<0.05). 2) In the combination of Co-Cr/Palladium, the bending strength of laser welded group were significantly less than that of soldered groups(p<0.05). In the combination of Co-Cr/Gold, the bending strength of laser welded group were significantly higher than that of soldered groups(p<0.05). 3) In the same method of joint, the tensile strength and 0.2% yield strength and bending strength of the Co-Cr/gold were significantly higher than Co-Cr/palladium(p<0.05). 4) There was no significantly statistical difference between each group in the % elongation(p>0.05). 5) The fracture of the laser welded specimens occured in the welding area and a large void was observed at the center of the fracture surface. 6) The fracture of the soldered specimens occured also inthe soldered area and many porpsities were showed at the fracture sites.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength between Ni-Cr alloy and composite resin using universal adhesive systems coMPared to conventional method using metal primers. Materials and methods: For this study, a total of 120 cast commercial Ni-Cr alloy (Vera Bond 2V) disks were embedded in acrylic resin, and their surfaces were smoothed with silicon carbide papers and airborne-particle abrasion. Specimens of each metal were divided into 6 groups based on the combination of metal primers (Metal primer II, Alloy primer, Metal & Zirconia primer, MKZ primer) and universal adhesive systems (Single Bond Universal, All Bond Universal). All specimens were stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. Shear bond strength testing was performed with a universal testing machine at a cross head speed of 1 m/min. Data (MPa) were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and the post hoc Tukey's multiple comparison test (${\alpha}$=.05). Results: There were significant differences between Single Bond Universal, All Bond Universal, Metal Primer II and Alloy Primer, MKZ Primer, Metal & Zirconia Primer (P<.001). Conclusion: Universal Adhesive system groups indicated high shear bond strength value bonded to Ni-Cr alloy than that of conventional system groups using primers except Metal Primer II. Within the limitations of this study, improvement of universal adhesive systems which can be applied to all types of restorations is recommended especially non-precious metal alloy. More research is needed to evaluate the effect of silane inclusion or exclusion in universal adhesive systems.

Recently, most jewelry design employ multiple prongs that grasp the front surface of the jewel to the metal frame To keep up with recent trends in fashion. jewelry manufacturers need to produce single-prong neckalces and earings constructed with non-precious metals. In responce to this demand, Ameth Development Division and The University of Seoul researched jointly and developed a technique for setting the jewel safely using a single prong with less weight. The setting process consists of making a small trench through the jewel at the mounting point and using a low melting point tin solder, to fill the trench and bonding with the prong. The application or this technology in the setting of a natural amethyst to a single 18K gold prong resulted in a 40% reduction in cost and weight and improvement of feeling for wearing.

Alkaline water electrolysis is commercial hydrogen production technology. It is possible to operate MW scale plant. Because It used non-precious metal for electrode. But It has relatively low current density and low efficiency. In this study, research objective is development of anode for alkaline water electrolysis with low cost, high corrosion resistance and high efficiency. Stainless steel 316L (SUS 316L) was selected for a substrate of electrode. To improve corrosion resistance of substrate, Nickel (Ni) layer was electrodeposited on SUS 316L. Ni-Fe alloy was electrodeposited on the passivated Ni layer as active catalyst for oxygen evolution reaction(OER). We optimized preparation condition of Ni-Fe alloy electrodeposition by changing current density, electrodeposition time and composition ratio of Ni-Fe electrodeposition bath. This electrodes were electrochemically evaluated by using Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and Cyclic voltammetry (CV). The Ni-Fe alloy (Ni : Fe = 1 : 1) showed best activity of OER. The optimized electrode decreased overpotential about 40% at $100mA/cm^2$ compared with Ni anode.
Under the fee for service schedule of Korean health insurance system, rational fee for dental laboratory products based on the cost is required to be formulated. The purpose of this study was to find actual cost of dental laboratory products in case of a University Hospital. Materials of this study were used as follows : 1. Balance sheet at Dec. 31, 1992 and profit and loss report of the year 1992 of the sample hospital 2. Performance report of dental laboratory department. 3. Purchasing and other accounting bills of dental laboratory materials. The following methods were used. 1. Actual cost finding of dental laboratory department was performed. 2. Work sampling methods were used for measuring standard working time by the process of working. 3. To porcelain fused to metal crown(non-precious), Relative value of the cost of dental laboratory products was calculated as 1.00. 4. Fee and cost of those products were compared on the basis of Relative values. The results of the study can be summarized as follow : 1. Overall, it took longs time than other items. to product denture-related items. 2. When several teeth are made in a time, average production time is much sorter than when one tooth is made in a time. 3. The relative price cost of Dicor cast crown and denture related items are higher than the criterion items. 4. The material cost occupies average 11% out of the total price cost, proportion of personnel expenses is average as 60.0%. 5. Some of the components consisting of the price cost are not reflected adequately in setting the level of the reimbursement price. 6. Relative values of dental laboratory products price cost are varied in the range from 0.05 to 2.83, overall, the reimbursement price of dental products appears not to reflect adequately the price cost. On the basis of this study results, the following ideas would be suggested : 1. Fee Schedule of dental laboratory products should be renovated in order to reflect their costs. 2. Dental laboratory product manufacturers should be enlarged for the economy of scale which may be useful for cost- containment. 3. Dental laboratory producters themselves are required to be standardiqed according to the categories of skill.
Cerium oxide (ceria, CeO2) is one of the most wide-spread oxide supporting materials for the precious metal nanoparticle class of heterogeneous catalysts. Because ceria can store and release oxygen ions, it is an essential catalytic component for various oxidation reactions such as CO oxidation (2CO + O2 2CO2). Moreover, reduced ceria is known to be reactive for water activation, which is a critical step for activation of water-gas shift reaction (CO + H2O → H2 + CO2). Here, we apply van der Waals-corrected density functional theory (DFT) calculations combined with U correction to study the mechanism of water chemisorption on CeO2(111) surfaces. A stoichiometric CeO2(111) and a defected CeO2(111) surface showed different water adsorption chemistry, suggesting that defected CeO2 surfaces with oxygen vacancies are responsible for water binding and activation. An appropriate level of water-ceria chemisorption energy is deduced by vdW-corrected non-local correlation coupled with the optB86b exchange functional, whereas the conventional PBE functional describes weaker water-ceria interactions, which are insufficient to stabilize (chemisorb) water on the ceria surfaces.

PURPOSE. The present study was designed to examine the clinical fit of fixed dental prosthesis fabricated by the milling-sintering method using a presintered cobalt-chromium alloy. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two single metal-ceramic crowns were fabricated via milling-sintering method and casting method in each of the twelve consecutive patients who required an implant-supported fixed prosthesis. In the milling-sintering method, the prosthetic coping was designed in computer software, and the design was converted to a non-precious alloy coping using milling and post-sintering process. In the casting method, the conventional manual fabrication process was applied. The absolute marginal discrepancy of the prostheses was evaluated intraorally using the triple-scan technique. Statistical analysis was conducted using Mann-Whitney U test (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. Eight patients (66.7%) showed a lower marginal discrepancy of the prostheses made using the milling-sintering method than that of the prosthesis made by the casting method. Statistically, the misfit of the prosthesis fabricated using the milling-sintering method was not significantly different from that fabricated using the casting method (P=.782). There was no tendency between the amount of marginal discrepancy and the measurement point. CONCLUSION. The overall marginal fit of prosthesis fabricated by milling-sintering using a presintered alloy was comparable to that of the prosthesis fabricated by the conventional casting method in clinical use.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of various cements on the retention of casting crown and the cement film thickness. To evaluate the retention of crown, thirty maxillary premolars were used and prepared to largely same dimension. According to the routine method, Non-precious metal crowns were made. The teeth and the metal crowns were divided into three groups and cemented under 5kg static pressure. Group I was composed of 10 teeth and 10 metal crowns and was cemented with zinc phohsphste cement. Group II was composed of 10 teeth and 10 metal crowns and was cemented with Panavia-EX cement. Group III was composed of 10 teeth and 10 metal crowns and was cemented with All-Bond & composite resin cement. After 5 days, the cemented specimens were mounted and the failure loads were measured by an Instron Universal Testing Machine. To evaluate the cement film thickness. 5 metal teeth and 5metal crowns from a prepared maxillary premolar were made. Two marks were flawed on the margin part of each surface at 4-surfaces of each specimen(one mark : crown, the other : metal tooth) and were measured the width with SEM photograph(80 sheets) before and after cementation(Panavia-EX, All-Bond cement, & ZPC) was made. Differences of the widths of marks between before and after were measured, and differences from 4-surfaces of a specimen cemented with a cement were measured and calculated. The results were as follows ; 1. There was a statistically significant difference between the failure loads of group III and the others(p<0.05). 2. There was a statistically significant difference between the cement film thickness of group III and the others(p<0.05).
