Purpose: The purpose of this study was to measure the effects of a school safety education program based on the PRECEDE-PROCEED model for upper grade elementary students. Methods: One hundred ten 6th-grade students sampled from an elementary school in D City were divided into the education group (n=55) and the non-education group (n=55). School safety education was provided to the education group for 8 weeks and a questionnaire survey about safety knowledge, safety practice and the frequency of safety negligence was carried out before and after the education from March 2 to July 13, 2010. Results: After the application of the safety education program, the education group got a higher safety knowledge score than the non-education group (p<.001). Both the education and non-education groups showed a significantly increased safety practice score (p<.01). In the comparison of safety negligence, the education group showed lower frequency (p<.01). In addition, according to the results of ANCOVA and t-test, the school safety education program influenced safety knowledge significantly (p<.001). Conclusion: This result shows that a school safety education program based on PRECEDE- PROCEED can improve safety knowledge. Further studies will be required to develop continuous and systematic safety education programs.
We intended to identify the health state of Oriental medical students and also to know how many things of health practice are in healthy group and non-healthy group classified by the THI average score, according to sasang constitution. We collected data with self-administered health questionnaires from 297 men and women, in 9 Korea oriental medical colleges. We diagnosed Sasang constitution using QSCC II and also estimated health degree using THI. Non-healthy group practiced much more health behaviors than healthy one, and there were significant difference in Taeeumin and Soeumin. Non-healthy group of Taeeumin, Soeumin and Soyangin all practiced much more constitutional health behaviors than healthy one, and Soeumin non-healthy and healthy one all practiced much less health behaviors than Taeeumin and Soyangin group. Non-healthy group practiced health behavior for health care and maintenance more than healthy-one, and health state was related with sasang constitution health care. Therefore, institutional and systematic environmental condition would be needed in practicing healthy behaviors for improving the quality of health, and especially developed health promotion programs according to Sasang constitution too.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to suggest effective methods for not only preventing college students from being exposed to smoking but also helping them stop smoking, by examining and analysing a variety of factors related to their smoking behavior. Methods: To accomplish the purpose, this study was carried out using 1,553 valid questionnaires selected from 1,584 questionnaires completed and returned by 1,800 randomly chosen students of 2 colleges and 3 universities in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and Daegu City during the period of April 3 through April 21, 2006. Results: It was turned out that while the total smoking rate of whole students was 52.4% in male students and 9.1% in female students, the smoking rate after their admission to the college was 27.1% in males and 1.5% in females. It was also shown that both the perceived susceptibility and barrier factors of Health Belief Model were statistically significant, and that the perceived seriousness factors were entirely significant in all other variables except the body seriousness. The perceived benefit factors were significant in only the variable that there would not be any improvement in academic performance even after stopping smoking. A relation between smoking and stop smoking program or smoking prevention program showed that the non-smoking rate was significantly high among the college students who participated in such programs while in middle school. When variables having a significant effect on smoking students after their admission were analysed, it was shown that the smoking rate was higher among males than females students, and that the more the number of smoking friends is and the more the number of students thinking that stop smoking would make it difficult to release stress and make friends is, the higher the smoking rate is among students. It is required, therefore, to encourage students to continuously participate in more smoking prevention programs from middle school, and to put an emphasis on a variety of smoking-related illnesses and advantages from non-smoking. Conclusions: Since the current smoking rate among college students is relatively high but most of the smoking students surveyed are ready to actually try to stop smoking, it will be possible to significantly reduce the smoking rate among college students if proper methods are suggested to eliminate barrier factors they face while participating in the stop smoking programs.
Purpose: This study examined the relationships among type D personality, self-efficacy, health promoting behaviors and mediating effects, as well as type D personality and health promoting behaviors of college students. Methods: From 10 May to 24 May 2013, a convenience sample of 223 subjects was recruited from a college in G city. Data analysis consisted of Pearson's correlation coefficient, followed by regression analysis. Results: The prevalence of type D personality was 21.4%. Type D individuals showed lower self-efficacy and interpersonal relationships than non-type D individuals. Type D personality (NA*SI) had signigicant negative correlations with self-efficacy and HPLP-II. Self-efficacy fully mediated the relationship between type D personality(NA*SI) and HPLP-II. Conclusion: One reason why type D individuals have maladaptive health behaviors is low self-efficacy.
This study was investigate the relationship between vaccination and clinical practice during the COVID-19 period, when clinical practice education for public health students is shifting to a non-face-to-face direction. Students' clinical practice experience after graduation is an important part of their professional careers. The result that students who wanted to work in health care had a higher level of face-to-face clinical practice than students who did not (OR: 3.421, 95%CI: 1.333-8.775). Face to face clinical practice was higher among vaccination students (OR: 2.522, 95%CI: 1.017-6.254). In the non-face-to-face clinical practice conducted at the COVID-19 of environment students were found to be low in satisfaction with the overall clinical practice due to concerns about contracting infectious diseases. Additionally, I felt anxious about working in the field after getting a job. Accordingly, we will be able to enhance the professional role of students by actively supporting vaccinations that can relieve anxiety about infectious diseases and conducting face-to-face clinical practice.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the mother's rearing attitude and communication between mobile phone addiction group and non-addiction group in middle school students. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed with 574 students from 3 middle schools (1 boy school, 1 girl school, 1 coeducation school) at G-city in Gangwon Province. The data was collected from the 10th to 24th of July in 2010. Statistical analysis of the results was carried out by means, frequencies, chi-square, t-test and multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: There were significant differences in mobile phone addiction group and non-addiction group in regard to sex, school year, grades, mother' age, purpose of mobile phone use, activity after school, phone bill per month. Also There were significant differences in mother's rearing attitude and mother's communication between two groups. Conclusion: Mobile phone addiction among students is not serious, however, possibility of becoming an addict still remains. This study suggests that we have to educate them about proper mobile phone use in advance to prevent them from becoming a mobile phone addict in early stage. Therefore, we need to develop an educational program to prevent mobile phone addiction.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the general characteristics and health behaviors of students with non-therapeutic substance use. Methods: This secondary data analysis used data from the 17th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (2021). Analyses of the 54,848 adolescents used descriptive statisics, the Rao-Scott χ2 test, and logistic regression. Results: The risk factors for substance use among students were anxiety, loneliness, living separately from family, suicidal ideation, e-cigarette use, and high stress. Conclusion: The findings help identify the risk factors for non-therapeutic drug use among adolescents. Since South Korea does not have a drug prevention program for its adolescent population, an educational plan based on these findings could help prevent adolescent substance abuse.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the dietary behavior, dietary intakes and internet searches regarding diseas by college students participating in a nutrition education web class. The study subject were 1184 college students and crosssectional survey was conducted by a self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire deal with anthropometric data, diseas, dietary behaviors, dietary intakes, and the use of nutrition information via the internet. The data was analyzed using a SPSS PC program. Disease group was 19.6% (male: 17.1%, female: 21.9%) and non-disease group was 80.4% (male: 82.9%, female: 78.1%) of subjects. As for the kinds of diseas, the male disease group had stomach diseas (15.7%), ozena (15.7%), hepatitis (10.8%) and allergic disease (7.8%), etc, and the female disease group had stomach diseas (32.8%), allergic diseas (12.0%), bronchitis and bronchial asthma (10.4%), anemia (7.2%), and constipation (1.6%), etc. Non-disease group showed significantly higher irregularity of meal time compared to disease group. Also, Disease group showed significantly higher concern about nutrition and health, worse recognition of theirown nutrition and health satus, and made greater efforts to prevention diseas compared to the non-diseas group. In the male subjects, the average intake of Calories, Vitamin $B_2$ and calcium was lower than the Korean RDA and in the female subjects, those of Calories, calcium and Fe were lower than the Korean RDA. Most of the diseas (97%) and the non-disease (98.2%) groups had positive attituds toward the usefulness of internet nutrition information. The disease group showed a higher confidence in the internet nutrition information and recognition of internet information on poisons compared to the non-diseas group. However, this difference was not significant. Therefore. it is necessary to provide sientifically proven nutrition of information via the internet for college students in order to promote healthful lifestyles and to prevent diseas.
This study is to investigate the HPV vaccination intention among male university students by cervical cancer knowledge and health belief. A sample of 159 male non-health related majoring students was asked to respond to a self-administrated questionnaire about the intention to inject HPV vaccine, knowledges of cervical cancer, and the level of health belief. T-test, ANOVA, pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple group analysis were utilized. Vaccination intention had a positive relation with knowledge of cervical cancer(${\beta}=.200$, p=.01). Health belief was also related with the vaccination intention. There was a significant relation between the vaccination intention and perceived seriousness (${\beta}=.362$, p=.01). This study suggested that the health and HPV convergent education at least as an extracurricular course should be offer to male university students for them to develop an intention to HPV vaccination.
Purpose: This study was to the investigate recognition of physical activity between physical therapy students (PTS) and non-physical therapy students (NPTS) by measuring the level of physical activity using International Physical Activity Questionnaires (IPAQ). Methods: A cross-sectional survey was completed by 191 university students. The IPAQ with an additional question (Is physical activity necessary for your future job?) was used to evaluate the recognition and the amount of physical activity. The collected data were calculated as MET-minutes scores and were classified as walking, moderate, and vigorous level of physical activity. The students were analyzed by dividing them into those who had a part-time employment (16 PTS and 12 NPTS) and those who did not have a part-time employment (80 PTS and 83 NPTS). Results: In students with a part-time employment, no significances were observed between the PTS and NPTS, in terms of MET, frequency and time of physical activity, and sitting time (p>0.05). In students without a part-time employment, the NPTS was significantly higher than the PTS for the MET and frequency of physical activity in a vigorous level (p<0.05), and there were no significant differences in other levels of physical activity (p>0.05). In the additional question, the PTS showed a slightly higher than the NPTS (p<0.05). Conclusion: The physical therapy students did not remarkable barrier to recognition of physical activity, but there was a difference in their recognition of the vigorous level of physical activity. Therefore, the understanding of physical activity for PTS would play an important role in the recognition of how physical activity can be promoted.
