We investigated how hydroxyapatite (HA) coating onto a porous super stainless steel (S.S.S, 22Cr-20Ni-6Mo-0.25N) affects bone ingrowth in a dog transcortical femoral model. Implants were histologically evaluated after 4 and 48 weeks of implantation, and the bone bonding strength at the bone/implant interface was examined by employing the pull-out test. The direct osseous tissue bonding onto the HA-coated S.S.S was observed, but the uncoated stainless steels had thin fibrous tissue layers. The mean interface strength of the HA-coated S.S.S was 1.5 and 2.5 times greater than those of the S.S.S and the 316L SS after one year of implantation, respectively. In preliminary studies, no toxic responce was observed from a cytotoxicity test of the S.S.S, having similar corrosion resistance to titanium. Our results suggest that early osteoconductive nature of HA coating may induce long term osteointegration for a bioinert substrate.
In this study, it was examined the relationship between the microstructure, fatigue properties, mechanical properties and retained austenite volume of Mo-Ni ADI corresponding to various austempering temperatures. When the austempering temperature is increased to $370^{\circ}C$, acicular bainite structure was found to be transformed to feathery bainite structure. But at the austempering temperature of $420^{\circ}C$, the dissolved bainite lath was showned. Up to the austempering temperature of $370^{\circ}C$, the volume of retained austenite was increased. However at the austempering temperature of $420^{\circ}C$ a large amount of retained austenite was decreased. In this study, the retained austenite volume was determined by XRD(X-ray diffraction). It was observed that the optimum fatigue properties can be obtained at the condition of austempering temperature $370^{\circ}C$. Under the such conditions, fatigue limit determined as the value of 290 MPa, tensile strength 877MPa elongation 6%, hardness 285(BHN), impact values(CVN) 9.2J and retained austenite volume 30.3%, respectively.
Vanadate glasses in the Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ system containing 10mo1% glass former, P$_2$O$_{5}$ were prepared by melting the batch in pt. crucib1e followed by quenching on the copper plate. We found that Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ glass-ceramics obtained from nucleation of glass showed significantly higher capacity and longer cycle life than conventionally made crystalline LiCoO$_2$, LiNiO$_2$and LiV$_3$O$_{8}$. In the present paper, We describe electro-chemical properties during crystallization process and find the best crystallization condition of Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ g1ass as cathod material. Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ glass-ceramics shows superior rechargeable capacity of 220 mAh/g in the cycling between 2.0 and 3.9V.etween 2.0 and 3.9V.
A study was made to examine the effects of heat-treatment on the microstructures of Cu-bearing HSLA steels. The details of microstructures were studied by using optical microscopy(OM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and hardness test. The as-rolled microstructure of HSLA-A consists of ferrite (${\alpha}$) whereas that of HSLA-B consists of needle-shaped phase. The difference in microstructure can be ascribed to the different amount of Ni, Mn, Mo, Cu which affect the hardenability. The austenite grain size is very small up to $1000^{\circ}C$ owing to the Nb-precipitates. As the austenitizing temperature increases above $1000^{\circ}C$, the austenite grain grows rapidly. There are two hardness peaks in the hardness versus temperature curve, at $500^{\circ}C$ and at $675^{\circ}C$ (HSLA-A), $725^{\circ}C$ (HSLA-B). The peak at $500^{\circ}C$ result from the formation of Cu-precipitates and second hardness peak is created due to the formation of M-A constituents. The hardriess decrease in HSLA-B steel with ageing temperature is small because of the higher amounts of Cu than HSLA-A steel. The fine, round ${\varepsilon}$-Cu precipitates grow with ageing temperature and finally transform into rod shape.
The organometallic chemical vapor deposition of single precursors, $[Me_2Al({\mu}-NHR)]_2\;(R=^iPr,\;^tBu)$, for alumininum nitride thin films has been investigated to evaluate their poroperties as potential precursors. In chemical vapor deposition processes the gas phase products scattered from a Ni(100) substrate were analyzed by mass spectrometry and the deposited films were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The optimum temperatures for the formation of AlN films have been found to be between 700 K and 800 K. Carbon contamination of the films seems to be attributed mainly to the methyl groups bonded to the aluminum atoms. It is apparent that $^tBu$ group is better than $^iPr$ group as a substituent on the nitrogen atom of the single precursors for the AlN thin film formation.
Sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR) is the preferred technology of the generation-IV fast neutron reactor, and its core body mainly uses nuclear-grade 316 stainless steel. In order to prolong the design life of SFRs to 60 years and more, it is necessary to summarize and analyze the anti-corrosion effect of nuclear grade 316 stainless steel in high temperature sodium environment. The research on sodium corrosion of nuclear grade 316 stainless steel is mainly composed of several important factors, including the microstructure of stainless steel (ferrite layer, degradation layer, etc.), the trace chemical elements of stainless steel (Cr, Ni and Mo, etc) and liquid impurity elements in sodium (O, C and N, etc), carburization and mechanical properties of stainless steel, etc. Through summarizing and constructing the sodium corrosion rate equations of nuclear grade 316 stainless steel, the stainless steel loss of thickness can be predicted. By analyzing the effects of temperature, oxygen content in sodium and velocity of sodium on corrosion rate, the basis for establishing integrity evaluation standard of SFR core components with sodium corrosion is provided.
Localized corrosion behavior of Ni-based Inconel 718 alloy was investigated by electrochemical anodic polarization techniques in NACE TM 0177 A solution of 5 wt% NaCl + 0.5 wt% acetic acid at room temperature. After the solution heat treated at 1080 ℃ for 2.5 h, Inconel 718 was age-hardened at 780 ℃ for 8 h. The microstructure of the alloy surface was investigated by optical microscopic or scanning electron microscopic technique. The austenitic phase with the presence of metal carbides was observed on the surface of Inconel 718. Metal-carbides such as Nb-Mo and Ti-carbide with diameters of approximately 10 and 3 ㎛, respectively, were formed in Inconel 718. Anodic polarization results revealed that localized corrosion was observed at the interface between austenitic phase of a substrate and metal carbides. Difference in electrochemical property between a metal carbide and an austenitic substrate could provide an initiation site for localized corrosion of Inconel 718 surface.

Objective: Experiments were conducted to clone the sequence of Wild Argali short palate, lung and nasal epithelium clone 1 (SPLUNC1) cDNA, and to lay the foundation for further study the biological function of Wild Argali SPLUNC1. Methods: The complete sequence of Wild Argali SPLUNC1 cDNA was generated by rapid amplification of cDNA ends. The entire coding sequence was inserted into the pPIC9K vector and expressed in Pichia pastoris (P. pastoris) GS115. The recombinant SPLUNC1 protein was detected by Western blot and purified by $Ni^{2+}$ chelate affinity chromatography. The test of effect of the protein on Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae (MO) was performed with real-time polymerase chain reaction. Results: The Wild Argali SPLUNC1 cDNA was 1,076 bp with an open reading frame of 768 bp, which encoded a 26.49 kDa protein composed of 255 amino acids. Its amino acid sequence shared 98.4%, 96.9%, 94.5%, 90.2%, 80.8%, 78.4%, 78.3%, 72.5%, 72.3%, 68.8% identity with those of SPLUNC1 cDNA from Ovis aries (accession no. NP_001288334.1), Capra hircus (accession no. XP_005688516.1), Pantholops hodgsonii (accession no. XP_005979709.1), Bos taurus (accession no. NP_776851.1), Felis catus (accession no. XP_006929910.1), Homo sapiens (accession no. NP_001230122.1), Sus scrofa (accession no. NP_001005727.1), Chinchilla lanigera (accession no. NP_001269294.1), Mus musculus (accession no. NP_035256.2), and Rattus norvegicus (accession no. NP_742028.1), respectively. The recombinant protein corresponded to the expected molecular mass of 25.47 kDa as judged by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and it was detected in the supernatant of P. pastoris, and it could be purified. The results from the test of inhibition effect of argali recombinant SPLUNC1 protein on MO showed that the product could inhibit MO very well (p<0.01). Conclusion: The amino acid sequence of Wild Argali SPLUNC1 was different from other organisms. The recombinant SPLUNC1 protein has good biological activity.
Titanium and its alloys are finding increasing use in medical devices and dental implants. The strong selling point of titanium is its resistance to the highly corrosive body fluids in which an implant must survive. This corrosion resistance is due to a tenacious passive oxide or film which exists on the metal's surface and renders it passive. Potentiodynamic polarization measurement is one of the most commonly used electro-chemical methods that have been applied to measure corrosion rates. And the potentiodynamic polarization test supplies detailed information such as open circuit, rupture, and passivation potential. Furthermore, it indicates the passive range and sensitivity to pitting corrosion. This study was designed to compare the corrosion resistance of the commonly used dental implant materials such as CP Ti, Ti-6A1-4V, Co-Cr-Mo alloy, and 316L stainless steel. And the effects of galvanic couples between titanium and the dental alloys were assessed for their useful-ness-as. materials for superstructure. The working electrode is the specimen , the reference electrode is a saturated calomel electrode (SCE), and the counter electrode is made of carbon. In $N_2-saturated$ 0.9% NaCl solutions, the potential scanning was performed starting from -800mV (SCE) and the scan rate was 1 mV/sec. At least three different polarization measurements were carried out for each material on separate specimen. The galvanic corrosion measurements were conducted in the zero-shunt ammeter with an implant supraconstruction surface ratio of 1:1. The contact current density was recorded over a 24-hour period. The results were as follows : 1. In potential-time curve, all specimens became increasingly more noble after immersion in the test solution and reached between -70mV and 50mV (SCE) respectively after 12 hours. 2. The Ti and Ti alloy in the saline solution were most resistant to corrosion. They showed the typical passive behavior which was exhibited over the entire experimental range. Therefore no breakdown potentials were observed. 3. Comparing the rupture potentials, Ti and Ti alloy had the high(:st value (because their break-down potentials were not observed in this study potential range ) followed by Co-Cr-Mo alloy and stainless steel (316L). So , the corrosion resistance of titanium was cecellent, Co-Cr-Mo alloy slightly inferior and stainless steel (316L) much less. 4. The contact current density sinks faster than any other galvanic couple in the case of Ti/gold alloy. 5. Ag-Pd alloy coupled with Ti yielded high current density in the early stage. Furthermore, Ti became anodic. 6. Ti/Ni-Cr alloy showed a relatively high galvanic current and a tendency to increase.
