The primary objective of this paper is to grasp many characteristics of buckling behavior of latticed spherical domes under various conditions. The Arc-Length Method proposed by E.Riks is used for the computation and evaluation of geometrically nonlinear fundamental equilibrium paths and bifurcation points. And the direction of the path after the bifurcation point is decided by means of Hosono's concept. Three different nonlinear stiffness matrices of the Slope-Deflection Method are derived for the system with rigid nodes and results of the numerical analysis are examined in regard in geometrical parameters such as slenderness ratio, half-open angle, boundary conditions, and various loading types. But in case of analytical model 2 (rigid node), the post-buckling path could not be surveyed because of Newton-Raphson iteration process being diversed on the critical point since many eigenvalues become zero simultaneously.
The present paper investigates the elasto-plastic buckling of ball-jointed single layer latticed domes considering the connection characteristics. The domes are composed of tubular member elements, ball joints and connectors. To judge yielding of the member, the ends and central part of tubular member elements are assumed as five elasto-plastic springs. Elasto-plastic buckling load can be identified the yielding load of estimated member As a numerical analysis technique, loading incremental method based on the Newton-Raphson method is used. The effects of connection characteristics are investigated by the following points; (1) the length of rigid zone, (2) looseness of screw, (3) diameter of connector Finally, it is emphasized that the connection characteristics as well as the material non-linearity have significant effects upon the buckling toad of domes.
Recently, the buckling is easy to happen a thin plate and High Tensile Steel is used at the steel structure and marine structure so that it is wide. Especially, the post-buckling is becoming important design criteria in the ship structure to use especially the High Tensile Steel. Consequently, it is important that we grasp the conduct post-buckling behaviour accurately at the stability of the ship structure or marine structure. In this study, examined closely about conduct and snap-through behaviour after initial buckling of thin plate structure which apply compressive load according to various kinds initial deflection shape under all edges simply supported condition that make by buckling formula in each payment in advance rule to place which is representative construction of hull. Analysis method is F.E.M in used ANSYS program and complicated nonlinear behaviour to analyze such as secondary buckling with snap-through behaviour. Nonlinear buckling control is applied between newton-raphson method and arc-length method in this study
Thermopiezoelastic snap-through phenomena of piezolaminated plates are numerically investigated by applying a cylindrical arc-length scheme to Newton-Raphson method. Based on the layerwise displacement theory and von-Karman strain-displacement relationships, nonlinear finite element formulations are derived for thermopiezoelastic composite plates. From the static and dynamic viewpoint, nonlinear thermopiezoelastic behavior and vibration characteristics are studied for symmetric and eccentric structural models with various piezoelectric actuation modes. Present results show the possibility to enhance the performance of thermal structures using piezoelectric actuators and report new phenomena, namely thermopiezoelastic snapping, induced by the excessive piezoelectric actuation in the active suppression of thermally buckled large deflection of piezolaminated plates.
The response of a reinforced concrete structure to loading is both immediate and time-dependent. Under a sustained load, the deflections caused by creep and shrinkage may be several times their instantaneous values. The paper describes a general finite element procedure, based on the so-called layered model, to analyse reinforced concrete members, and shows in particular how the simple Step by Step Method may be incorporated into this procedure. By invoking the Modified Newton Raphson Method as a solution procedure, the accuracy of the finite element method is verified against independent test results, and then applied to a variety of problems in order to demonstrate its efficacy. The method forms a general method for analysing highly indeterminate concrete structures in the time domain.
This paper deals with nonlinear asymmetric dynamic buckling of clamped laminated angle-ply composite spherical shells under suddenly applied pressure loads. The formulation is based on first-order shear deformation theory and Lagrange's equation of motion. The nonlinearity due to finite deformation of the shell considering von Karman's assumptions is included in the formulation. The buckling loads are obtained through dynamic response history using Newmark's numerical integration scheme coupled with a Newton-Raphson iteration technique. An axisymmetric curved shell element is used to investigate the dynamic characteristics of the spherical caps. The pressure value beyond which the maximum average displacement response shows significant growth rate in the time history of the shell structure is considered as critical dynamic load. Detailed numerical results are presented to highlight the influence of ply-angle, shell geometric parameter and asymmetric mode on the critical load of spherical caps.
In this paper we recall briefly the constitutive equations for solids subjected to thermal strain taking in account the bounded tensile stress of the material. In view to solve the equilibrium problem via the finite element method using the Newton Raphson procedure, we show that the tangent elasticity tensor is semi-definite positive. Therefore, in order to obtain a convergent numerical method, the constitutive equation needs to be modified. Specifically, the dependency of the stress by the anelastic deformation is made explicit by means of a parameter ${\delta}$, varying from 0 to 1, that factorizes the elastic tensor. This parameterization, for ${\delta}$ near to 0, assures the positiveness of the tangent elasticity tensor and enforces the convergence of the numerical method. Some numerical examples are illustrated.
The objective of this work is to analyze geometrically nonlinear static analysis a simply supported laminated composite beam subjected to a non-follower transversal point load at the midpoint of the beam. In the nonlinear model of the laminated beam, total Lagrangian finite element model of is used in conjunction with the Timoshenko beam theory. The considered non-linear problem is solved considering full geometric non-linearity by using incremental displacement-based finite element method in conjunction with Newton-Raphson iteration method. There is no restriction on the magnitudes of deflections and rotations in contradistinction to von-Karman strain displacement relations of the beam. In the numerical results, the effects of the fiber orientation angles and the stacking sequence of laminates on the nonlinear deflections and stresses of the composite laminated beam are examined and discussed. Convergence study is performed. Also, the difference between the geometrically linear and nonlinear analysis of laminated beam is investigated in detail.
A continuum-based design sensitivity analysis (DSA) method fur non-shape problems is developed for geometrically nonlinear elastic structures. The non-shape problem is characterized by the design variables that are not associated with the domain of system like sizing, material property, loading, and so on. Total Lagrangian formulation with the Green-Lagrange strain and the second Piola-Kirchhoff stress is employed to describe the geometrically nonlinear structures. The spatial domain is discretized using the 4-node isoparametric plane stress/strain elements. The resulting nonlinear system is solved using the Newton-Raphson iterative method. To take advantage of the derived analytical sensitivity In topology optimization, a fast and efficient design sensitivity analysis method, adjoint variable method, is employed and the material property of each element is selected as non-shape design variable. Combining the design sensitivity analysis method and a gradient-based design optimization algorithm, an automated design optimization method is developed. The comparison of the analytical sensitivity with the finite difference results shows excellent agreement. Also application to the topology design optimization problem suggests a very good insight for the layout design.
The high precision analysis by the p-version of the finite element method are fairly well established as highly efficient method for linear elastic problems, especially in the presence of stress singularity. It has been noted that the merits of p-version are accuracy, modeling simplicity, robustness, and savings in user's and CPU time. However, little has been done to exploit their benefits in elasto-plastic analysis. In this paper, the p-version finite element model is proposed for the materially nonlinear analysis that is based on the incremental theory of plasticity, the associated flow rule, and von-Mises yield criteria. To obtain the solution of nonlinear equation, the Newton-Raphson method and initial stiffness method, etc are used. Several numerical examples are tested with the help of the square plates with cutout, the thick-walled cylinder under internal pressure, and the center cracked plate under tensile loading. Those results are compared with the there cal solutions and the numerical solutions of ADINA software.
