The herringbone groove journal bearing (HGJB) has chevron type grooves on stationary or rotating member of the bearing so that they pump the lubricant inward the grooves when journal rotates. As a result, the pressure is generated around the journal so that the radial stiffness and dynamic stability are improved comparing to the plain journal bearing (PJB) when the bearing operates near the concentric condition. The narrow groove theory, conventionally adopted to simulate the concentric operation of HGJB, is limited to the infinite number of grooves. A numerical study of air-lubricated HGJB is presented for the finite number of grooves. The compressible isothermal Reynolds equation is solved by using Finite Element Method together with the Newton-Raphson iterative procedure and perturbation method. The solutions render the static and dynamic performances of HGJB. Comparison of present results with a PJB validates previously published finite difference solution. The HGJB's geometric parameters influence its static and dynamic characteristics. The optimum geometric parameters are presented for the air-lubricated HGJB in particular conditions.
In this paper, a numerical method is proposed for cam synthesis. kinematics of closed loop system with cam and follower is presented using relative coordinates. The system is transformed into an open loop system by cutting fictitiously higher-pair contact of cam and follower and envelope constraint equations are derived. Follower constraint equations are derived from the motion of the follower ends. The joint variables and follower profile parameters are calculated from the envelope constraint equations and follower constraint equations by using the Newton - Raphson iterative method. Algorithms for cam synthesis are presented and simulations are done to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
This paper presents a fully coupled three-dimensional solver for the analysis of interaction between pulsatile flow and large deformation structure. A partitioned time marching algorithm is employed for the solution of the time dependent coupled discretised problem, enabling the use of highly developed, robust and well-tested solvers for each field. Conservative transfer of information at the fluid-structure interface is combined with an effective multi-predict-correct iterative scheme to enable implicit coupling of the interacting fields at each time increment. The three-dimensional unsteady incompressible fluid is solved using a powerful implicit time stepping technique and an ALE formulation for moving boundaries with second-order time accurate is used. A full spectrum of total variational diminishing (TVD) schemes in unstructured grids is allowed implementation for the advection terms and finite element shape functions are used to evaluate the solution and its variation within mesh elements. A finite element dynamic analysis of the highly deformable structure is carried out with a numerical strategy combining the implicit Newmark time integration algorithm with a Newton-Raphson second-order optimisation method. The proposed model is used to predict the wave flow fields of a particular flow-induced vibrational phenomenon, and comparison of the numerical results with available experimental data validates the methodology and assesses its accuracy. Another test case about three-dimensional biomedical model with pulsatile inflow is presented to benchmark the algorithm and to demonstrate the potential applications of this method.
For the linearized differential algebraic equation of the nonlinear constrained system, exact initial values of the acceleration are needed to solve itself. It may be very troublesome to perform the inverse operation for obtaining the incremental quantities since the mass matrix contains the zero element in the diagonal. This fact makes the mass matrix impossible to be positive definite. To overcome this singularity phenomenon the mass matrix needs to be modified to allow the feasible application of predictor and corrector in the iterative computation. In this paper the proposed numerical algorithm based on the modified mass matrix combines the conventional implicit algorithm, Newton-Raphson method and Newmark method. The numerical example presents reliabilities for the proposed algorithm via comparisons of the 4th order Runge-kutta method. The proposed algorithm seems to be satisfactory even though the acceleration, Lagrange multiplier, and energy show unstable behaviour. Correspondingly, it provides one important clue to another algorithm for the enhancement of the numerical results.
This paper deals with the design of a reduced-order stabilizing controller for the linear system. The coupled lineal matrix inequality (LMI) problem subject to a rank condition is solved by a sequential semidefinite programming (SDP) approach. The nonconvex rank constraint is incorporated into a strictly linear penalty function, and the computation of the gradient and Hessian function for the Newton method is not required. The penalty factor and related term are updated iteratively. Therefore the overall procedure leads to a successive LMI relaxation method. Extensive numerical experiments illustrate the proposed algorithm.
This paper presents the closed-form forward kinematics of the 6-6 Stewart platform of planar base and moving platform. Based on algebraic elimination method and with one extra linear sensor, it first derives an 8th-degree univariate equation and then finds tentative solution sets out of which the actual solution is to be selected. In order to provide more exact solution despite the error between measured sensor value and the theoretical one, a correction method is also used. The overall procedure requires so little computation time that it can be efficiently used for realtime applications. In addition, unlike the iterative schemes e.g. Newton-Raphson, the algorithm does not require initial estimates of solution and is free of the problems that it does not converge to actual solution within limited time. The presented method has been implemented in C language and a numerical example is given to confirm the effectiveness and accuracy of the developed algorithm.

This manuscript presents a comprehensive mathematical model to investigate buckling stability and postbuckling response of bio-inspired composite beams with helicoidal orientations. The higher order shear deformation theory as well as the Timoshenko beam theories are exploited to include the shear influence. The equilibrium nonlinear integro-differential equations of helicoidal composite beams are derived in detail using the energy conservation principle. Differential integral quadrature method (DIQM) is employed to discretize the nonlinear system of differential equations and solve them via the Newton iterative method then obtain the response of helicoidal composite beam. Numerical calculations are carried out to check the validity of the present solution methodology and to quantify the effects of helicoidal rotation angle, elastic foundation constants, beam theories, geometric and material properties on buckling, postbuckling of bio-inspired helicoidal composite beams. The developed model can be employed in design and analysis of curved helicoidal composite beam used in aerospace and naval structures.
TDOA (time difference of arrival)와 FDOA (frequency difference of arrival)를 동시에 사용하는 신호원 위치추정 방법은 단일 정보를 이용하는 경우에 비해 높은 정확도를 가지며 이동 신호원의 속도 추정이 가능하다는 장점을 가지고 있다.
TDOA (time difference of arrival)와 FDOA (frequency difference of arrival) 정보를 동시에 이용하는 신호원 위치추정 기법은 단일 정보를 이용하는 경우에 비해 높은 정확도를 가지는 장점을 가지고 있다.
