  • This paper aims to propose a new systematic approach to analyze the factor productivity and to investigate those characteristics of factor productivity in operational and managerial perspectives. The Cobb-Douglas production function is adopted to estimate the labor and capital productivity. In estimating those productivities the data of The Research on the Actual Condition of Coastal Fisheries (RACF), especially those of Jeon-Nam Province are used. The statistical analysis of RACF data shows that the characteristics are a little bit different between labor and capital of the operational equipment in the coastal fisheries. The Cobb-Douglas type production function is useful in estimating the factor productivity, especially in case of 'coastal Stow-net fishery' even though the limited data is used. However, in case of 'trap fishery,' the Cobb-Douglas production function appears to have some limitations in estimation. This implies that estimating the factor productivities in fisheries employing broad perspectives and various methods are needed.

  • This study suggests the theoretical framework and strategy of new product development in the advanced mineral aggregate composite industry. The advanced mineral aggregate composite area needs to prepare the plan and guidelines on the new product development owing to the characteristic of the related technology. Alternative scenarios on the hierachy of new product idea is effective to the success of new product development strategy. Especially, the existing market, product, and the technological advantages affects the possibility of the success of new product development of the small firms. Also considering the interrelationship between the technological trends is important to the new product development of advanced mineral aggregate composite industry.

  • Purpose: This study proposed a systematic approach to measure eco-efficiency of products based on the concept of quality function deployment(QFD). QFD method has been used to convert customer's subjective requirements to design specifications. A extension of QFD to environmental issues is known as quality environmental function deployment(QEFD). QEFD includes environmental requirements into customer's demand for quality, and incorporates them to design specifications of a product. Methods: In this study, we compared eco-efficiency of old and new models through application of QEFD. Results: The result revealed that the new model's eco-efficiency improved 24% better than the old model. Also, we found that user's Factor X of the new model has been improved to 1.178, which is about 18% better than that of the old model. Conclusion: This study implied that we can systematically use QEFD to determine eco-efficiency of two comparable products in any industries.

  • Mobile business noticed as a constructive alternative of e-commerce and e-business is being diversely considered as a new form or subset of e-business. In this study, mobile business is defined as a comprehensive alternative including e-business. The framework of the superset of e-business has two axes: connectivity and mobility. In addition, various cases based on the combination of the components are provided and explained. It is the main characteristic of this study that the element of off-line "mobility" is added to "connectivity" generally used while explaining e-commerce and e-business. For place (or location) is a prerequisite for the feature of mobility, we grope for why and how Location-Based Service (LBS) will take an important role in the development of new e-business models and services. As the real and full-scale beginning of IMT-2000 service and the rapid progress and diffusion of mobile communications services including wireless LAN require an immense and innovative way of thinking about e-commerce and e-business, the framework suggested in this study is considered to go far toward satisfying the new needs in this area.

  • In a service business, it is difficult to cope with all your customers' needs. They come and go with various wants and when it comes to their own good there are complaining. Such variances in the service business interfere the operation resulting in inefficiency. To come against all those fluctuate wants, Frei is suggesting a new way how to cope with this customer variability in the service business: Low-Cost accommodation and uncompromised reduction. However, his assertion that these solutions can reduce cost and enhance service quality at the same time is empirically not proved. Thus, the following research will be dedicated in the empirical proof whether the solutions mentioned above can enhance service quality while reducing cost by pursuing efficiency in the service business.

  • Proposing that the main barriers to mini-packaging success in China, in contrast to India and the Philippines, is Chinese consumers' sociocultural values and attitudes toward products in mini packages, this study investigates the factors that potentially make the China market relatively not conducive to buying products in mini packages via a survey of 468 Chinese adults in Shanghai (first-tier city) and Zhuhai (second-tier city). Results show that respondents agree that products in mini packages are difficult to store once opened, are more expensive than are larger-sized products, do not provide good value for money, entail frequent shopping, are harmful to the environment, are not advertised, and are mainly for trying new products and for traveling. They disagree with many possible reasons for the unpopularity of products in mini packages. This study's contributions are (1) providing in-depth quantitative analysis of the possible reasons mini-packaging is not popular in China, (2) offering managerial advice for using mini-packaging to increase brand competitiveness, (3) developing a scale to measure attitudes toward products in mini packages; and (4) being empirical as opposed to merely anecdotal/speculative like some studies in this area.

  • The stock market changes continuously as new information emerges, affecting the judgments of investors. Online news articles are valued as a traditional window to inform investors about various information that affects the stock market. This paper proposed new ways to utilize online news articles with technical indicators. The suggested hybrid model consists of three models. First, a self-attention-based convolutional neural network (CNN) model, considered to be better in interpreting the semantics of long texts, uses news content as inputs. Second, a self-attention-based, bi-long short-term memory (bi-LSTM) neural network model for short texts utilizes news titles as inputs. Third, a bi-LSTM model, considered to be better in analyzing context information and time-series models, uses 19 technical indicators as inputs. We used news articles from the previous day and technical indicators from the past seven days to predict the share price of the next day. An experiment was performed with Korean stock market data and news articles from 33 top companies over three years. Through this experiment, our proposed model showed better performance than previous approaches, which have mainly focused on news titles. This paper demonstrated that news titles and content should be treated in different ways for superior stock price prediction.

  • Nowadays various new items are available, but limitation of searching effort makes it difficult for customers to search new items which they want to purchase. Therefore new item providers and customers need recommendation systems which recommend right items for right customers. In this research, we focus on the new item recommendation issue, and suggest preference boundary- based procedures which extend traditional content-based algorithm. We introduce the concept of preference boundary in a feature space to recommend new items. To find the preference boundary of a target customer, we suggest heuristic algorithms to find the centroid and the radius of preference boundary. To evaluate the performance of suggested procedures, we have conducted several experiments using real mobile transaction data and analyzed their results. Some discussions about our experimental results are also given with a further research area.

  • At this paper, we investigate two factors of market aspects, such as market power perspective and market efficiency perspective, as influential factors on size of slotting allowances of new products. Also, our research might examine the effects of slotting allowances of new products on both performance of new products and consumer prices. For the empirical research, we analysis 128 domestic manufacturers. In result, there is a positive relationship between retailers' brand equity and the size of slotting allowances. However, there is a negative relationship between retailer replaceability and the size of slotting allowances. Also, the effect of transaction period is negative direction and the effect of the environment uncertainty is positive direction. And the effect of the scale of the slotting allowance of new products is positive direction on the performance of the manufacturers and the price of new products. And, the theoretical and practical implications of this result and future research were suggested.
