The sulfidation behavior of a sputter-deposited amorphous coating of 69.0%Nb-16.9Ni-11.9%Al-2.2%Si (at.%) has been investigated as a funtion of temperature.(973-1173K) in pure sulfur pressure of 0.01atm. The sulfidation kinetics of the casting obyed the parabolic rate low over the whole temperature ranges studied. The stlfidation rate increased with the temperature, as expected. The sulfide scale, the composition of which was $Al_2S_3,\;NbS_2,\;Ni_{3-x}S_2\;and\;FeCrS_4$, formed on the amorphous coating was primarily bilayered. Both the outer fastgrowing non-protective 4Al_2S_3$scale and the inner slowly-growing protective $NbS_2$,/TEX> scale and the inner slowly-growing protective $NbS_2$ scale had some Fe and Cr dissolution, which evidently came from the base substrate alloy of stainless steel type 304. Belows the coating, Kirkendall void formation was noticed. Nevertheless, a dramatic improvement of sulfidation resistance was achieved by sputter-depositing Nb-2 Ni-Al-Si layer on the stainless steel 304.
Halide-activated pack cementation was utilized to deposit B-doped silicide coating. The pack powders were consisted of $3Wt.c/oNH_4Cl$, 7Wt.c/oSi, $90Wt.c/oAl_2O_3+TiB_2$. B-doped silicide coating was consisted of two layers, an outer layer of $NbSi_2$ and an inner layer of $Nb_5Si_3$. Isothermal oxidation resistance of B-doped silicide coating was tested at $1250^{\circ}C$ in static air. B-doped silicide coating had excellent oxidation resistance, because continuous $SiO_2$ scale which serves as obstacle of oxygen diffusion was formed after oxidation.

NbN coatings were prepared by ICP (inductively coupled plasma) assisted magnetron sputtering from a Nb metal target in $Ar+N_2$ atmosphere at various ICP powers. Effect of ICP on the microstructure, crystalline structure and mechanical properties of NbN coatings was investigated by field emission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy and nanoindentation measurements. The results show that ICP power has a significant influence on coating microstructure, structure and mechanical properties of NbN coatings. With the increasing of ICP power, coating microstructure evolves from the columnar structure of DC process to a highly dense one. Crystalline structure of NbN coatings were changed from cubic ${\delta}$-NbN to hexagonal ${\beta}-Nb_2N$ with increase of ICP power. The maximum nano hardness of 25.4 GPa with Ra roughness of 0.5 nm was obtained from the NbN coating sputtered at ICP power of 200 W.
Niobium is one of the most important and rarest metals, and is used in the electronic and energy industries. However, it's extremely high melting point and oxygen affinity limits the manufacture of Nb coating materials. Here, a Nb coating material is manufactured using a kinetic spray process followed by hot isotactic pressing to improve its properties. OM (optical microscope), XRD (X-ray diffraction), SEM (scanning electron microscopy), and Vickers hardness and EPMA (electron probe micro analyzer) tests are employed to investigate the macroscopic properties of the manufactured Nb materials. The powder used to manufacture the material has angular-shaped particles with an average particle size of $23.8{\mu}m$. The porosity and hardness of the manufactured Nb material are 0.18% and 221 Hv, respectively. Additional HIP is applied to the manufactured Nb material for 4 h under an Ar atmosphere after which the porosity decreases to 0.08% and the hardness increases to 253 Hv. Phase analysis after the HIP shows the presence of only pure Nb. The study also discusses the possibility of using the manufactured Nb material as a sputtering target.

(Na, K) $NbO_3$ thick film was successfully achieved using a sol-gel coating process with the addition of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) to a metal alkoxide solution. The transparent coating solution, mixed with Nb:PVP = 1:1 in a molar ration, was synthesized by evaporating the solvent to over 62.5 wt%. Additive PVP increased the viscosity of the solution so that the coating thickness could be enhanced. The thickness of the (Na, K) $NbO_3$ film assisted by PVP was ca. 320 nm at the time of deposition; this value is four times thicker than that of the sample fabricated without PVP. Also, due to PVP binding with the OH groups of the metal alkoxide, the condensation reaction in the film was suppressed. The crystalline size of the (Na, K) $NbO_3$ films assisted by PVP was ca. 15 nm smaller than that of the film fabricated without PVP. After the sintering process at $700^{\circ}C$, the (Na, K) $NbO_3$ films were mainly composed of randomly oriented (Na, K) $NbO_3$ phase of perovskite crystal structure, including a somewhat secondary phase of $K_2Nb_4O_{11}$. However, by adding PVP, the content of the secondary phase became quite smaller than that of the sample without PVP. It was thought that the addition of PVP might have the effect of restraining the loss of potassium and that PVP could hold metalloxane by strong hydrogen bonding before complete decomposition. Therefore, the film thickness of the (Na, K) $NbO_3$ films could be considerably advanced and made more crack-free by the addition of PVP.
Niobium nitride coatings have many potential thin film applications due to their chemical inertness, good mechanical properties, temperature stability and superconducting properties. In this study, $NbN_x$ coatings were prepared by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) assisted DC magnetron sputtering method on the surface of AISI 304 austenitic stainless steels. Effects of target power were studied on mechanical and chemical properties of the coatings. The coating structure was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The coating hardness was measured by micro-knoop hardness tester. The coating thickness was measured using a 3D profiler and wear characteristics were estimated using a ball-on-disk wear tester. The thickness of the $NbN_x$ coatings increased linearly from 300 nm to 2000 nm as the Nb target power increased, and it showed over $HK_{0.005}$ 4000 hardness above Nb target power of 300 W. Hexagonal ${\delta}^{\prime}$-NbN phase and cubic ${\delta}$-NbN phase were observed in the coating films and the hardness of the NbNx coatings was higher when these two peaks were mixed. The corrosion resistance increased with the increase of the Nb target power.

Biodegradable coating urea plays an important role in reducing the non-pollutants in agroecosystems, maximizing the plant nutrient utilization efficiency and slow-releasing nitrogen. Herein, the objective of this study was to investigate the nitrogen-releasing patterns and greenhouse gas emissions on different biodegradable coating urea. The treatments consisted of the control as an application of chemical fertilizers, NBCF as the non-biodegradable coating urea, NB60, and MDS as biodegradable coating urea. As a result of this study, the maximum accumulated total nitrogen (TN) concentration in the NBCF was higher at 33% than one in the NB60 during the precipitation periods. Its leaching period in the NCBF was prolonged for day 10 compared to the NB60. TN and NO3-N releasing patterns in the NBCF and NB60 were fitted well on linear types(R2≥0.991), but their control and MDS were fitted well on Sigmoid curves(R2≥0.994) with high releasing concentration in the MDS compared to the control during leaching periods. For the greenhouse gas emissions, CH4 emissions in the NBCF, NB60, and MDS were increased at 0.38%, 11.36%, and 5.91%, and N2O emissions were also increased at 50.5%, 32.4%, 58.8% as compared to the control, respectively. Therefore, application of biodegradable polymer coating urea might mitigate the non-point pollutants in agro-ecosystem.

Nb, Mo-doped and Nb/Mo-codoped $VO_2(M)$ nanocrystallites with various doping levels were synthesized for the first time by a hydrothermal and post thermal transformation method. The reversible phase transition characteristics of those doped $VO_2(M)$ was comparatively investigated. Nb-doping of $VO_2(M)$ by this method resulted in a very efficient lowering of the transition temperature ($T_c$) with a rate of $-16.7^{\circ}C/at.%$ that is comparable to W-doping, while Mo-doping did not give a serious reduction of $T_c$ with only a rate of $-5.1^{\circ}C/at.%$. Nb/Mo-codoping gave a similar result to Nb-doping without a noticeable difference. The thin films of Nb-doped and Nb/Mo-codoped $VO_2(M)$ with a thickness of ca. 120 nm were prepared by a wet-coating of the nanoparticle-dispersed solutions. Those films showed a good thermochromic modulation of near infrared radiation with 30-35% for Nb-doped $VO_2(M)$ and 37-40% for Nb/Mo-codoped ones. Nb/Mo-codoped $VO_2(M)$ film showed slightly enhanced thermochromic performance compared with Nb-doped $VO_2(M)$ film.

A.C. impedance properties of HA/Ti compound layer coated Ti-30Ta-($3{\sim}15$)Nb alloys have been studied by electrochemical method. Ti-30Ta binary alloys contained 3, 7, 10 and 15 wt% Nb were manufactured by the vacuum furnace system. And then specimen was homogenized at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 24 hrs. The sample was cut and polished for corrosion test and coating. It was coated with HA/Ti compound layer by magnetron sputter. The non-coated and coated morphology of Ti alloy were analyzed by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), energy X-ray dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) and filed emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The corrosion behaviors were investigated using A.C. impedance test (PARSTAT 2273, USA) in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Ti-30Ta-($3{\sim}15\;wt%$)Nb alloys showed the ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ phase, and $\beta$ phase peak was predominantly appeared in the case of increasingly Nb contents. The microstructures of Ti alloy were transformed from needle-like structure to equiaxed structure as Nb content increased. From the analysis of coating surface, HA/Ti composite surface uniformed coating layer with 750 nm thickness. The growth directions of film were (211), (112), (300) and (202) for HA/Ti composite coating on the surface after heat treatment at $550^{\circ}C$, whereas, the growth direction of film was (110) for Ti coating. The polarization resistance ($R_p$) of HA/Ti composite coated Ti-alloys were higher than those of the Ti and HA coated samples in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Especially, corrosion resistance of Ti-Ta-Nb system increased as Nb content increased.
