  • Party is an important communication method in the 21st century and this tendency is not exceptional in Korea. With this noteworthy phenomenon, this study summarized the concept and history of party first, and then analysed "belief - attitude - behavioral intention" model based on the one-dimensional attitude theory. The variables included in this research were western culture familiarity as belief factor, three variables evaluating the party culture(i.e., non-popularity of party, marketability of party, sociability of party) as attitude factor, and dress code receptiveness as behavioral intention factor. The samples of this study were 498 women in twenties and thirties from metropolitan areas in South Korea. SPSS 12.0 and AMOS 4.0 packages were used for statistical analysis. The results of this research are as follows: First, western culture familiarity had a significant effect on attitude toward party culture. Specifically, western culture familiarity negatively influenced the non-popularity dimension of party and positively influenced the marketability and sociability dimension of party. Second, attitude toward party culture significantly influenced the dress code receptiveness. Consecutively, all of three dimensions about attitude toward party culture positively influenced the dress code receptiveness. Managerial implications were provided.

  • Research on culture has been widespread across social science researches. But there has not been any cultural research in the fisheries industry. This study tried to identify whether the culture of the fishery organization had a convergent or divergent characteristic. To do so, fishery distributors and wholesalers, who affiliated with their professional associations or wholesale seafood markets, were surveyed across supplying and consuming areas(Busan and Seoul). If fishery organizations have always been culture-bound, rather than culture free, then their members show the divergent characteristic of culture. Despite a similarity in tasks, size and market segments, if this fact is proved, fishery distributors and wholesalers in different areas will differ in many of their managerial practices such as marketing policies, communication patterns, motivation techniques, etc. And it is expected that national and industrial cultures are major determinants of their behaviors. Depending on the results of this study, fishery distributors and wholesalers had a divergent characteristic. So, it was concluded that fishery distributors and wholesalers of wholesale seafood markets in supplying area were different from those in consuming area. It was found that this difference was attributed to individualism/collectivism and masculinity/femininity dimensions. In individualism/collectivism dimension, fishery distributors and wholesalers of consuming area were stronger than those of supplying area. That is, fishery distributors and wholesalers of consuming area were more collective than those of supplying area. But in masculinity/femininity dimension, fishery distributors and wholesalers of supplying area were stronger than those of consuming area. And the divergent characteristic was moderated by demographic variables (gender, age, education level, career). Especially, masculinity/femininity dimension was more moderated by demographic variables than individualism/ collectivism dimension.

  • The propose of the study was to evaluate impression effects and likeness of clothing styles and make-up types. The stimuli were composed of 4 clothing styles(base, natural, romantic, classic) and 4 make-up types(no make-up, natural, romantic, classic). The subjects were 512 male and female university students in Daejeon and Chungnam province. The study consisted of a survey and quasi- experiment. The experimental materials used for this study were 16 stimuli, 32 hi-polar adjectives, and likeness scale were composed of 7-point Likert type scales. As a result, the clothing styles and make-up types effected on the 4 impressional dimensions: grace, evaluation, salience, and dynamism. The clothing styles effected on grace, salience and dynamism dimension and the effect of dynamism dimension was the most powerful among the dimensions. The make-up types effected on all of the 4 impression dimensions and the effect of salience dimension was the most powerful among the dimensions. The interaction effects existed between the clothing styles and make-up types in salience dimension. The likeness showed significant difference only on the make-up types. The effect of grace dimension was the most powerful among the dimensions. The main reason that make-up effect appears greatly could be analyzed into that clothes color is controlled by white. The results suggest the necessity of succession study about the effect of clothes color.

  • This study, based on literature review and theoretical discussion, reinterprets the learning environment instruments from cultural perspectives and suggests the applicability of learning environment instruments for understanding science classroom cultures. To do this, the existing learning environment instruments are first investigated and compared in terms of their features and utilizations appeared in previous studies. The learning environment instruments are then reinterpreted in the light of culture. Finally, we suggest the possibilities to use the learning environment instruments to understand science classroom cultures. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the learning environment instruments, by interpreting them culturally, could be interpreted in cultural ways and used as the alternative ways to explore science classroom cultures. Second, the learning environment instruments, such as WIHIC and CLEQ, could be interpreted both along the dimension of phenomena in classrooms and the dimension of students' psychology in order to investigate science classroom cultures. Third, the instrument items could be interpreted culturally in different ways according to the description types of instrument items. Thus, when learning environment instruments are used in culture research, the description types should be sufficiently taken into account. Based on the results of this study, educational implications are discussed in terms of exploring classroom cultures and of culture research.

  • The purpose of this study is to analysis children's measurement and to provide the fundamental information for he clothing design which can reflect the characteristic of their bodies. An anthropometric database used for this study was the 1992 national anthropomatric survey of Koreans. The results obtained are as follows; (1) Children showed the significant difference of their growth in accordance with the increase of their ages. There were also the difference between body and girls. Height, length of items grew most promthy. For example; boys from 10 to 11 and girls from 10 to 11 again their height mostly. (2) In character of body proportion, significant difference were found in accordance with their ages and sex. However, in the items of height, length noticeable changes of proportion could not be found because there were hardly any actual difference of size means while girth items appeared differently. (3) There were significant factors from the result of factor analysis of body dimension. The fist factor ; grith, depth, breath. The second factor ; height, length. (4) We can class three groups with the results of cluster analysis of body dimension.

  • To date, the development of anticancer drugs has been conducted using two-dimensional (2D) cell culture systems. However, since cancer cells in the body are generated and developed in three-dimensional (3D) microenvironments, the use of 2D anticancer drug screening can make it difficult to accurately evaluate the anticancer effects of drug candidates. Therefore, as a step towards developing a cancer cell-friendly 3D microenvironment based on a combination of vinylsulfone-functionalized polyethylene glycol (PEG-VS) with dicysteine-containing crosslinker peptides with an intervening matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-specific cleavage site, the types of MMPs secreted from human hepatocarcinoma HepG2 cells, a representative cancer cell, were analyzed transcriptionally and translationally. MMP3 was confirmed to be the most highly expressed protease secreted by HepG2 cells. This knowledge will be important in the design of a crosslinker necessary for the construction of PEG-based hydrogels customized for the 3D culture of HepG2 cells.

  • In this study, we investigate the influence of national culture on technological innovation activities. First, we discuss the concept of national culture and various cultural dimensions and measurements. Second, we analyze previous literature to explore the theoretical mechanisms in the relationship between national culture and technological innovation. Each cultural dimension has it own mechanism regarding the relationship and in some dimensions mixed theoretical arguments and empirical results are found. Lastly, we also explore how the national culture interacts with characteristics of technology, (social) institutions and public policies while it affects the technological innovation. Based on an literature review on the issue, we propose new research agenda and discuss avenues for future research. The implications for the research are also presented.
