  • The authors fabricated the nanostructural patterns on the surface of SiN antireflection layer of polycrystalline Si solar cell and the surface of crystalline Si wafer using anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) masks in an inductively coupled plasma(ICP) etching process. The AAO nanopattern mask has the hole size of about 70~80nm and an ave rage lattice constant of 100nm. The transferred nano-patterns were observed by the scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the enhancement of solar cell efficiency will be presented.

  • We demonstrate two very simple and fast routes to fabricating ordered micro/nanopatterns of polymers over large areas on various substrates using controlled dewetting. The first method is based on utilizing microimprinting to induce the local thickness variation of an initially inverted bilayer which allows the controlled dewetting and partial layer inversion upon subsequent thermal annealing. In the second method, the self assembly of block copolymer was controlled on a chemically micropatterned surface produced by microcontact printing, being combined with its solvent vapor treatment. The kinetically driven, non-lithographical nanopattern structures were easily fabricated over large area by these approaches.

  • In this work, we developed a high resolution printing technique based on transferring a pattern from a PDMS stamp to a Pd and Au substrate by microcontact printing Also, we fabricated various 2D metallic and polymeric nano patterns with the feature resolution of sub-micrometer scale by using the method of microcontact printing (${\mu}$CP) based on soft lithography. Silicon masters for the micro molding were made by e-beam lithography. Composite poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) molds were composed of a thin, hard layer supported by soft PDMS layer. From this work, it is certificated that composite PDMS mold and undercutting technique play an important role in the generation of a clear SAM nanopattern on Pd and Au substrate.

  • Microcontact printing (uCP) of alkanethiols on gold was the first representative of soft-lithography processes. This is an attempt to enhance the accuracy of classical to a precision comparable with optical lithography, creating a low-cost, large-area, and high-resolution patterning process. Microcontact printing relies on replication of a pattered PDMS stamp from a master to form an elastic stamp that can be inked with a SAM solution(monolayer -forming ink) using either immersion inking or contact inking. The inked PDMS stamp is then used to print a pattern that selectively protects the gold substrate during the subsequent etch.

  • Thin films of diblock copolymers may be suitable for semiconductor device applications since they enable patterning of ordered domains with dimensions below photolithographic resolution over wafer-scale area. We obtained nanometer-scale cylindrical structure of dibock copolymer of polystyrene-block-poly(methylmethacrylate), PS-b-PMMA, also demonstrate pattern transfer of the nanoporous polymer using both reactive ion etching. The size of fabricated naonoholes were about 10 nm. Fabricated nanopattern surface was observed by field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM).

  • Area selective atomic layer deposition (AS-ALD) is a bottom-up nanopattern fabrication method that can grow the ALD films only on the desired substrate areas without using photolithography and etching processes. Particularly, AS-ALD has attracted great attention in the semiconductor manufacturing process due to its advantage in reducing edge placement error by fabricating self-aligned patterns. In this paper, the basic principles and characteristics of AS-ALD are described. In addition, various approaches for achieving AS-ALD with excellent selectivity were comprehensively reviewed. Finally, the technology development to overcome the selectivity limit of AS-ALD was introduced along with future prospects.

  • Although imprinted nanopatterns of organic polymer can be modified by the heat treatment [1], it generally requires high process temperatures and is material-dependent since the heat-induced mass loss of the organic polymer is greatly affected by its chemical characteristics. When oxygen is added during the annealing process, one can reduce the process temperature as well as the dependence of the materials. With the oxygen, line width reduction of a polymer (SU-8) patterns could be accomplished at temperature of as low as $250^{\circ}C$ which was not possible in the heat only process. This oxidative line width reduction can be dramatically promoted with the introduction of oxygen plasma. The oxygen plasma, with its highly-reactive oxygen species, vigorously etches away the organic materials, proven to be extremely effective line with reduction method. It is, however, very hard to control the extent and homogeneity of the etching, particularly of very fine patterns. Here, we report an effective and reliable line width reduction method of imprinted nanopatterns by combined plasma and heat treatment. The merits of this process include the reduction of process temperature, time and material-dependence.

  • Nanotechnology is the creation and utilization of materials, devices, and systems through the control of matter on the nanometer. The technology has been applied to biodevices such as bioelectronics and biochips to improve their performances. Nanoparticles, such as gold (Au) nanoparticles, are the most widely used of the various other nanotechnologies for manipulation at the nanoscale as well as nanobiosensors. The immobilization of biomolecules is playing an increasingly important role in the development of biodevices with high performance. Nanopatteming technology, which is able to increase the density of chip arrays, offers several advantages, including cost lowering, simultaneous multicomponent detection, and the efficiency increase of biochemical reactions. A microftuidic system incorporated with control of nanoliter of fluids is also one of the main applications of nanotechnologies. This can be widely utilized in the various fields because it can reduce detection time due to tiny amounts of fluids, increase signal-to-noise ratio by nanoparticles in channel, and detect multi-targets simultaneously in one chamber. This article reviews nanotechnologies such as the application of nanoparticles for the detection of biomolecules, the immobilization of biomolecules at nanoscale, nanopatterning technologies, and the microfluidic system for molecular diagnosis.

  • Photonic crystal solar cells have the potential for addressing the disparate length scales in polymer photovoltaic materials, thereby confronting the major challenge in solar cell technology: efficiency. One must achieve simultaneously an efficient absorption of photons with effective carrier extraction. Unfortunately the two processes have opposing requirements. Efficient absorption of light calls for thicker PV active layers whereas carrier transport always benefits from thinner ones, and this dichotomy is at the heart of an efficiency/cost conundrum that has kept solar energy expensive relative to fossil fuels. This dichotomy persists over the entire solar spectrum but increasingly so near a semiconductor's band edge where absorption is weak. We report a 2-D, photonic crystal morphology that enhances the efficiency of organic photovoltaic cells relative to conventional planar cells. The morphology is developed by patterning an organic photoactive bulk heterojunction blend of Poly(3-(2-methyl-2-hexylcarboxylate) thiophene-co-thiophene) and PCBM via PRINT, a nano-embossing method that lends itself to large area fabrication of nanostructures. The photonic crystal cell morphology increases photocurrents generally, and particularly through the excitation of resonant modes near the band edge of the organic PV material. The device performance of the photonic crystal cell showed a nearly doubled increase in efficiency relative to conventional planar cell designs. Photonic crystals can also enhance performance of other optoelectronic devices including organic laser.
