  • Recently, the Severe Disaster Punishment Act (January 27, 2022) was implemented, and the importance of industrial safety and health is being re-recognized. In addition, the reality is that the management burden is increasing, such as investing huge costs in reducing safety accidents centered on large companies. In this situation, we would like to help improve the working environment consistent with safety and health by deriving diagnosis and improvement measures for the current situation through a survey of production workers working in mid-sized and small-sized enterprises.

식품 접촉 모사 환경에서 식품유사용매의 LDPE-나노 TiO2 복합필름 재질특성 영향 평가 (Effect of Food Simulants on the Properties of LDPE-Nano TiO2 Composite Film in Food Contact Environment)

  • The effect of food simulants on properties and light barrier function of LDPE-nano $TiO_2$ composite film has been investigated. LDPE-nano $TiO_2$ composite films were prepared with 5.0wt% $TiO_2$ content by melt-extrusion. To simulate food contact environment, according to KFDA standards and specifications for food utensils, containers and packages, food simulants were selected with deionized water, 50% ethanol, 4% acetic acid and n-heptane and composite films were immersed in each food simulant at $70^{\circ}C$, 30 min except n-heptane ($25^{\circ}C$, 60 min). A variety of material properties, including crystallinity, chemical bonds, surface morphology, mechanical, oxygen barrier and optical properties, of LDPE-nano $TiO_2$ composite film were examined with and without the food simulants treatment. As a result, under regulated migration condition, LDPE-nano $TiO_2$ composite showed extremely stable in all properties tested in the study in contact with food simulants indicating that $TiO_2$ nanoparticles are physicochemically stable and quite compatible with LDPE. Results enable us to anticipate migration of $TiO_2$ will probably not occur. To evaluate influence of migration of $TiO_2$ on food stuffs, their color, pH and acidity were observed as well.

  • An increasing interest in fire safety engineering can currently be identified in Korea and overseas. The fire-resistant characteristics of spray coating material for fire protection with or without nano $Al(OH)_3$ colloid has been experimentally investigated and the results are presented in this paper. The fire-resistance characteristics of spray coating material with nano $Al(OH)_3$ were superior to those without $Al(OH)_3$. Especially, spray coating material with nano material showed that thermal characteristic in the early days was remarkably excellent.

나노기술과 해양용 센서 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of Marine Detector Using Nano-technology)

  • 해양환경 오염에 대한 관심이 많아지면서 해양환경 인자에 대한 감시가 그 중요성을 더해 가고 있다. 지금까지는 이에 대한 감지를 위한 센서의 부재로 인하여 해수를 채취하여 실험실에서 고가의 장비를 이용하여 분석하여 왔다. 이는 해양의 실시간 감시가 어려울 뿐 아니라 급변하는 해양 상태를 정확하게 파악하기 어려운 면이 있어왔다. 이러한 단점을 보완하기위해서 나노기술을 이용한 해양용 센서 개발이 시급히 요구되는 바 이에 대한 기술적인 분야와 특징 및 타당성을 검토하였다 현재 기술적으로 개발이 가능하고 국제적으로 경쟁력이 있는 분야로는 나노스핀소자를 이용한 바이오분자 감지, 탄소나노튜브의 전도성 변화에 따른 해양인자 감시기술, 그리고 나노반도체를 이용한 적조관련 미생물 감지 기술을 제시하였다. 이 기술들의 특징과 해양환경에서의 적용을 위하여 개발하여야 할 요소 기술을 찾아보고 문제점들을 극복할 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다.

Safety Evaluation of Tobacco Substitute (Herbrette); Inhalation Toxicity, Mutagenicity and Immunotoxicity

  • Inhalation toxicity, mutagenicity, and immunotoxicity tests were performed using a smoke generation system to investigate the safety of Herbrette, a tobacco substitute made with the leaves of Perilla frutescens. ICR mice were exposed to nicotine-free Herbrette smoke with concentrations of 0 (control), 4.08 $\pm$ 1.32 mg/$m^3$ (low dose), 7.72 $\pm$ 2.14 mg/$m^3$ (medium dose) and 12.83 $\pm$ 1.69 mg/$m^3$ (high dose) total particulate matters (TPM) for 4 weeks. When compared to the control group, the body weights, organ weights in the exposed groups did not show any significant differences. However, certain change of several serum chemical data and biochemical parameters were observed, however, the changes were within normal physiological ranges. Moreover, no changes in organ weight, and no gross/microscopic changes were observed between the exposed and control groups. Salmonella typhimurium reverse mutation, in vivo chromosomal aberration and micronucleus assays revealed that Herbrette did not induce mutagenicity. Upon evaluation of peripheral cellular immunity of mice through in vitro lymphocyte proliferation assay, no significant difference was observed in mean stimulation index between the exposed and control groups. Taken together, our results strongly suggest that Herbrette may not cause toxicity on mice under current condition.

비등 열전달 시스템의 안정성 향상을 위한 탄소나노튜브 코팅의 열전달 및 내구성에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Heat Transfer and Durability of Carbon Nano Coating for the Safety Improvement of a Pool Boiling System)

  • In this study, we investigated to the heat transfer performance of coating nano-structure with various shapes and patterns on the heat transfer surface. As a result of the measurement of the 3D nano shape, it was confirmed that the roughness generally increases when the adhesive is sprayed on the coating surface and finished durability experiment. In the case of TEOS adhesive, the roughness increased by $0.074{\mu}m$, $0.012{\mu}m$ and $0.015{\mu}m$, and the contact angle decreased $12.64^{\circ}$, $1.31^{\circ}$, $9.84^{\circ}$ at the coating time of 120 seconds, 180 seconds and 240 seconds, respectively. In the case of PVA adhesive, the roughness increased by $0.069{\mu}m$, $0.056{\mu}m$ and $0.03{\mu}m$, and the contact angle decreased $2.85^{\circ}$, $4.82^{\circ}$, $6.96^{\circ}$ at the coating time of 120 seconds, 180 seconds and 240 seconds, respectively. In the case of DGEBF adhesive, the roughness increased by $0.042{\mu}m$, $0.053{\mu}m$ and $0{\mu}m$, and the contact angle decreased $0.81^{\circ}$ at the coating time of 120 seconds, increased $4.82^{\circ}$, $6.96^{\circ}$ at the coating time of 180 seconds and 240 seconds, respectively. As a result, the durability tends to decrease as more nano-structures are deposited, and 3D nano shapes, contact angles and SEM photographs showed that the performance of the PVA adhesive was superior among the three adhesives.

식품 유래 박테리아 현장검출용 바이오센서 (Biosensors for On-the-spot Detection of Bacteria from Foods)

  • Recently there have been extensive research activities on the development of on-the-spot detection technologies for bacteria from foods due to growing high demand for food safety. In particular, on-the-spot detection devices using biosensors with rapid, highly sensitive and multiplexed sensing capability are promising for portable or mobile applications. Firstly, issues related to on-the-spot bacteria detection are discussed. Then, detection methods for bacteria, types of biosensors depending on transducing principle and receptors, and platforms for integration of biosensors and signal readers are reviewed. Finally, prospects for development of on-the-spot detection devices are summarized.

  • Background: Frequent outbreaks of foodborne illness have been increased awareness of food safety. CDC estimates that each year roughly 48 million people gets sick, 128,000 are hospitalized and 3,000 die of foodborne diseases in US. In Korea, 6,058 were hospitalized and 266 incidents were reported in 2012. It is required to develop rapid methods to identify hazard substances in food products for protecting and maintaining safety of the public health. However, conventional methods for pathogens detection and identification involve prolonged multiple enrichment steps. Purpose: This review aims to provide information on biosensors to detect pathogens in food products to enhance food safety. Results: Foodborne outbreaks continue to occur and outbreaks from various food sources have increased the need for simple, rapid, and sensitive methods to detect foodborne pathogens. Conventional methods for foodborne pathogens detection require tremendous amount of labor and time. Biosensors have drawn attentions in recent years because of their ability to detect analytes sensitively and rapidly. Principles along with their advantages and disadvantages of a variety of food safety biosensors including fiber optic biosensor, impedimetric biosensor, surface Plasmon resonance biosensor, and nano biosensor were explained. Also, future trends for the food safety biosensors were discussed.
