  • Intracavity frequency doubling of a single-mode Nd:YAG laser by using a nonplanar ring cavity is demonstrated. The nonplanar ring cavity consists of a Brewster-angled Nd:YAG crystal placed in a magnetic field, a KTP crystal, and two spherical mirrors. In this design the Nd:YAG block acts as both a nonreciprocal polarization rotator and a partial polarizer, and the nonplanar portion of the ring cavity, which is formed by a relative twist angle between the Brewster-angled end surfaces of the Nd:YAG block, serves as a reciprocal polarization rotator. An eigenpolarization theory for the cavity configuration is presented and suitable values of the relative twist angle for unidirectional operation are estimated. A single-mode output power of 22 ㎽ at 532 nm and an optical to optical conversion efficiency of 1.8% are obtained with a 1.2 W diode laser at 809 nm.

  • Magnetic and Magneto-optical characteristics of NdTbFeCo alloy films and NdTbFeCo/TbFeCo double-layered films have been investigated. It was observed that the Kerr rotation(${\theta}_{k}$) in the short wavelength region increased and the coercivity decreased as the substitutional amount of Nd for Tb in NdTbFeCo film at the constant FeCo content. In spite of the increased ${\theta}_{k}$, a small coercivity of NdTbFeCo film made this medium unsuitable for magneto-optical recording medium at short wavelength. An effort was made to improve coercivity by exchange coupling with TbFeCo film of high coercivity. In the exchange-coupled $Nd_{16.9}Tb_{15.2}Fe_{50.4}Co_{17.5}(150\;{\AA})/Tb_{21.1}Fe_{65.0}Co_{13.9}(300\;{\AA})$ double-layered film, the magnetization reversal switching field and the Kerr rotation angle were increased to about 6.0 KOe and $0.32^{\circ}$ at 500 nm, respectively. This result indicates that exchange-coupled NdTbFeCo/TbFeCo film can be a promising candidate for agneta-optical rerding medium short wavelenhth.

  • $Nd_{15}Fe_{77}B_8$ and $Nd_{16}Fe_{76}B_8$ powders were prepared by mechanical alloying in Ar atmosphere, and their phases and magnetic properties were investigated with as a function of the annealing temperature. It was found that the mechanical alloyed $Nd_{16}Fe_{76}B_8$ powder for 450 hours was amorphous phase with a part of $\alpha$-Fe crystallites. The obtained powders at 700 $^{\circ}C$ for 30 minute resulted in two phase of $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ and $NdB_6$ by the solid-state reaction. The mechanical alloyed $Nd_{16}Fe_{76}B_8$ powder for 450 hour and annealed at 700 $^{\circ}C$ for 30 minute was showed $_iH_c\;of\;9.91\;kOe,\; B_{max}\;of\;12.93\;kG,\;Br\;of\;7.6\;kG\;and\;(BH)_{max}\;10.1\;MGOe$.

  • La-Ce method is one of new geochronological methods developed recently. La and Ce are one of the rare earth elements, and, with Sm-Nd system. La-Ce system is very useful in understanding the evolution processes of crust and mantle. In this paper, I introduce the basic concept of the La-Ce method, and apply it in clarifying LREE pattern of source material of leuco-granitic gneisses from the Imweon area, Kangwon-do, and K-rich granite from the Anshan area in Liaoning Province, NE China. Sm-Nd data on the Anshan K-rich granites give an age of $3.16{\pm}0.06$ Ga($2{\sigma}$), with initial $^{143}Nd/^{144}Nd$=$0.50846{\pm}0.00005$ (${\epsilon}_{Nd}$=-1.5). On the basis of Ce and Nd isotopic ratio, leucogranitic gneiss and K-rich granite has been fractionated from the source material which had had similar to CHUR (chundritic uniform reservoir). And the initial ${\epsilon}_{Nd}$ value suggest that the crustal formation age of the Liaoning Province area, NE China was early Archean.

  • Nd and Ti co-doped bismuth ferrite $(Bi_{1-x}Nd_x)(Fe_{1-y}Ti_y)O_3$ (x, y = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2) ceramics and thin films were synthesized through the conventional mixed-oxide process and pulsed laser deposition (PLD), respectively. Nd and Ti co-doping effect was examined with emphasis on how these impurities affect phase formation behavior as there could be the improvement in leakage current problems often associated with multiferroic $BiFeO_3$ (BFO) thin films. The lattice constants of BFO ceramics decreased with Nd doping concentration up to 10mol%, while they further decreased with Nd and Ti co-doping to about 20%. BFO thin films obtained by the PLD process revealed random polycrystalline structure. Similar to bulk BFO ceramic, Nd and Ti co-doping effectively suppressed the formation of unwanted secondary phase and thus stabilized the perovskite phase in BFO thin films.

  • In this study, we designed the finite element models of mandible with varying their connecting types between the prosthesis on implant fixture and 2nd premolar, which were free-standing case(Mf), precision attachment case(Mp), semiprecision attachment case(Ms) and telescopic case(Mt). The basic model of the designed finite element models, which contained a canine and the 1st & 2nd premolar, was implanted in the edentulous site of the 1st & 2nd molar by two implant fixtures. We applied the load in all models by two ways. A vertical load of 200N was applied at each central fossa of 2nd premolar and 1st implant. A tilting load of 20N with inclination of $45^{\circ}$ to lingual side was applied to buccal cusp tips of each 2nd premolar and 1st implant. And then we analyzed three-dimensional finite element models, making a comparative study of principal stress and displacement in four cases respectively. Three-dimensional finite element analysis was performed for the stress distribution and the displacement using commercial software(IDEAS program) for SUN-SPARC workstation. The results were as follows : 1 Under vertical load or tilting load, maximum displacement appeared at the 2nd premolar. Semiprecision case showed the largest maximum displacement, and maximum displacement reduced in the order of precision attachment, free-standing and telescopic case. 2. Under vertical load. the pattern of displacement of the 1st implant appeared mesio-inclined because of the 2nd implant splinted together. But displacement pattern of the 2nd premolar varied according to their connection type with prosthesis. The 2nd premolar showed a little mesio-inclined vertical displacement in case of free-standing and disto-inclined vertical displacement due to attachment in case of precision and semiprecision attachment. In telescopic case, the largest mesio-inclined vertical displacement has been shown, so, the 1st premolar leaned mesial side. 3. Under tilting load, The pattern of displacement was similar in all four cases which appeared displaced to lingual side. But, the maximum displacement of 2nd premolar appeared larger than that of the first implant. Therefore, there was large discrepancy in displacement between natural tooth and implant during tilting load. 4. Under vertical load, the maximum compressive stress appeared at the 1st implant's neck. Semiprecision attachment case showed the largest maximum compressive stress, and the maximum compressive stress reduced in the order of precision attachment, telescopic and free-standing case. 5 Under vertical load, the maximum tensile stress appeared at the 2nd implant's distal neck. Semiprecision attachment case showed the largest maximum tensile stress, and the maximum tensile stress reduced in the order of precision attachment, telescopic and free-standing case. 6. Under vertical load or tilting load, principal stress appeared little between natural tooth & implant in free-standing case, but large principal stress was distributed at upper crown and distal contact site of the 2nd premolar in telescopic case. Principal stress appeared large at keyway & around keyway of distal contact site of the 2nd premolar in precision and semiprecision attachment case, appearing more broad and homogeneous in precision attachment case than in semiprecision attachment case.

  • The major drawback of zirconia-based materials, in view of their applications as targets for minor actinide transmutation, is their poor thermal conductivity. The addition of MgO, which has high thermal conductivity, to zirconia-based materials is expected to improve their thermal conductivity. On these grounds, the present study aims at phase characterization and thermophysical property evaluation of neodymium-substituted zirconia (Zr0.8Nd0.2O1.9; using Nd2O3 as a surrogate for Am2O3) and its composites with MgO. The composite was prepared by a solid-state reaction of Zr0.8Nd0.2O1.9 (synthesized by gel combustion) and commercial MgO powders at 1773 K. Phase characterization was carried out by X-ray diffraction and the microstructural investigation was performed using a scanning electron microscope equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy. The linear thermal expansion coefficient of Zr0.8Nd0.2O1.9 increases upon composite formation with MgO, which is attributed to a higher thermal expansivity of MgO. Similarly, specific heat also increases with the addition of MgO to Zr0.8Nd0.2O1.9. Thermal conductivity was calculated from measured thermal diffusivity, temperature-dependent density and specific heat values. Thermal conductivity of Zr0.8Nd0.2O1.9-MgO (50 wt%) composite is more than that of typical UO2 fuel, supporting the potential of Zr0.8Nd0.2O1.9-MgO composites as target materials for minor actinides transmutation.

  • The post-harvest concentration change of four kind of pesticides, captan, chlorpyrifos, methidathion and kresoxim-methyl was investigated with the storage period for the import fruit. Then the post-harvest concentration was set to 1000, 250, 400 and 157 $mgkg^{-1}$ for captan, chlorpyrifos, methidathion and kresoxim-methyl respectively. In case of captan, 0.9-12.5 $mgkg^{-1}$ in total fruit base and ND-0.23 $mgkg^{-1}$ in the sarcocarp were measured after atomization and 0.7-3.2 $mgkg^{-1}$ in total fruit base and ND-0.67 $mgkg^{-1}$ in the sarcocarp were measured after four week. For chlopyrifos, menthidathion, and kresoxim-methyl 0.4-2.2, 0.7-3.1 and 1.3-2.1 $mgkg^{-1}$ in total fruit base and ND-0.32, ND-0.05 and ND-0.16 $mgkg^{-1}$ in the sarcocarp were measured after atomization respectively. After four week 0.3-0.9, 0.4-2.0 and 1.3-1.8 $mgkg^{-1}$ in total fruit base and ND-0.02, ND-0.05 and ND-0.15 $mgkg^{-1}$ in the sarcocarp were investigated for other three pesticides. The concentration decreasing ratio of pesticides was largest for captan, 52% and other components were in order of chlopyrifos, menthidathion, and kresoxim-methy, 47, 41, 11% each other.
