  • The purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric structure of Sasang typology with four personality measures and examine the construct validity of Sasang Personality Questionnaire (SPQ). We measured biopsychological traits of 104 university students using SPQ, Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI), NEO-Personality Inventory (NEO-PI) and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). The construct validity of SPQ was analyzed with TCI, NEO-PI and MBTI using Pearson's correlation. The temperament features of each Sasang groups were compared with Analysis of Variance and Profile Analysis. The SPQ showed significant correlation with TCI Novelty-Seeking (r=.398), TCI Harm-Avoidance (r=-.333), TCI Reward-Dependence (r=.465), TCI Self-Directedness (r=0.340), NEO-PI Extraversion (r=0.489) and MBTI Extraversion-Introversion (r=-0.509). The SPQ, TCI and NEO-PI revealed significant differences between Sasang constitutional groups. We examined the temperament construct of the Sasang typology and the validity of SPQ with well established western biopsychosocial instruments. This study would contribute to the objective studies on the biopsychosocial mechanism of Sasang medicine.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate college students’dietary and health behaviors in relation to their Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality preferences. Dietary and health behaviors were surveyed for 444 college students who performed the MBTI personality test. Only 6.1% of the subjects regularly had three meals a day, while 27.1% ate breakfast every day. Fifty-six point nine percent of the students took less than 15 minutes to eat a meal and had the habit of eating fast. The number of food groups they ate was, on average, 2.74 and was eaten mainly at dinner. This showed that college students did not eat a large variety of foods. Eighty-two percent of the subjects drank alcoholic beverages, 21.4% smoked, and 69.3% exercised. In addition, 73.9% of them were not satisfied with their body image, but they were not eager to try weight control. There were not many significant differences between Extraversion (E)-Introversion (I), Sensing (S)-iNtuition (N), and Thinking (T)-Feeling (F) in their dietary and heath behaviors, although some gender differences existed. Significantly better dietary and health behaviors were shown in subjects preferring Judging (J) rather than Perceiving (P). There behaviors included eating breakfast, regularly eating three meals a day, smoking less, exercising more and having a lower tendency to night-eating. The personality preference of J-P could be useful index for nutritional education and counseling or behavior modification programs for obese people.

Methods: Five hundred twenty-four college students in Gyeonggi-do completed the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and a questionnaire and collected data were analyzed by SAS 9.4 program. Results: Extroversion (E) type, sensation (S) type, and perceiving (P) type had significantly higher prevalence of insomnia than introversion (I) type (p<0.05), intuition (N) type (p<0.05), and judging (J) type (p<0.001), respectively. Tooth grinding, snoring and insomnia appeared to occur more frequently in feeling (F) type than in thinking (T) type. Tooth clenching, tooth grinding and snoring seemed to occur more frequently in S type than in N type. Insomnia occurred significantly the most frequently in sensation-feeling (SF) type (p<0.05). Tooth grinding and snoring seemed to occur the most frequently in SF type. A significantly increased percentage of sensation-perceiving (SP) type demonstrated insomnia (p<0.001). Tooth clenching, tooth grinding and snoring seemed to occur the most frequently in sensation-judging (SJ) type. Sensitive or nervous type of personality had significantly higher prevalence of insomnia than relaxed or general type of personality (p<0.01). A significantly increased percentage of subjects with bad general health status showed insomnia (p<0.0001). Tooth clenching and snoring seemed to occur the most frequently in subjects with bad general health status. A significantly decreased percentage of normal weight subjects demonstrated tooth grinding (p<0.05). Snoring occurred significantly the most frequently in overweight subjects (p<0.001). Tooth clenching showed significant correlation with stress (p<0.01) and personality (p<0.05). Snoring showed significant correlation with stress (p<0.05) and body weight (p<0.001). Insomnia showed significant correlation with stress (p<0.0001), personality (p<0.01), and general health status (p<0.0001). Conclusions: Sleep disturbances including tooth clenching and insomnia were associated with personality type and it is desirable to manage them considering personality type.

  • With the development of cognitive science and environmental psychology, there have been growing researches and discussions on the relationship between the residential design preferences and personality types. MBTI personality types have been earning popular credibility. MBTI means Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. It is based on Carl Jung's theory of psychological type. This study is based on Myers-Briggs theory to explain residential furnishing preference and explores the relationship between the four bi-polar personality types-Extroversion/Introversion, Sensing/Intuition, Thinking/Perceiving and residential furnishing preference. These tests were conducted to two hundred and twelve adult residents who live in Seoul, Korea. These tests were analyzed several significances by Chi-Square with SPSS for windows software. (E) Extroverted residents prefer layouts for interaction with guests. (I) Introverted residents prefer centripetal layout around the bed. (S) Sensing residents prefer practical and functional layouts. (N) Intuitive residents prefer personal and conceiving layouts. (T) Thinking residents prefer for attribute of space. (F) Feeling residents for familiar conversation. (J) Judging residents prefer systematic and complete layouts. (P) Perceiving residents prefer adaptable and flexible layouts. In conclusion, personality types can have a determining role in preference of residential furnishing layouts. This study suggests that residential designers should take into account clients' personality types prefer effective designing and should provide a variety of alternatives reflecting clients' preferences. This will promote clients' pleasantness and satisfaction in dwelling at home.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of simulation integrated with problem based learning in terms of critical thinking, problem solving, learning motivation according to Myers-Briggs type indicator(MBTI) personality type in advanced nursing course students. This study was a non-equivalent control posttest only design. Students were all enrolled in advanced nursing course which included 1) 6 weeks problem based learning 2) 5 weeks simulation integrated with PBL and debriefing. Total 19 students' data were collected and analyzed on SPSS win 21.0. The results showed students who have out patients working experience were significantly higher learning motivation(${\chi}^2=9.85$, p=.044), no experienced simulation were significantly higher critical thinking(${\chi}^2=4.44$, p=.035) and as temperament of MBTI, NT types were significantly higher on critical thinking(${\chi}^2=8.53$, p=.036). Students show various personality types and it might be impact on attitudes of learning and the results. Thus we need to understand their diversity and consider it to apply teaching methods on nursing education.
