Genetic parameters for worm resistance in Santa Inês sheep using the Bayesian animal model

  • Objective: The objective of this study was to estimate the genetic parameters for worm resistance (WR) and associated characteristics, using the linear-threshold animal model via Bayesian inference in single- and multiple-trait analyses. Methods: Data were collected from a herd of Santa Inês breed sheep. All information was collected with animals submitted to natural contamination conditions. All data (number of eggs per gram of feces [FEC], Famacha score [FS], body condition score [BCS], and hematocrit [HCT]) were collected on the same day. The animals were weighed individually on the day after collection (after 12-h fasting). The WR trait was defined by the multivariate cluster analysis, using the FEC, HCT, BCS, and FS of material collected from naturally infected sheep of the Santa Inês breed. The variance components and genetic parameters for the WR, FEC, HCT, BCS, and FS traits were estimated using the Bayesian inference under the linear and threshold animal model. Results: A low magnitude was obtained for repeatability of worm-related traits. The mean values estimated for heritability were of low-to-high (0.05 to 0.88) magnitude. The FEC, HCT, BCS, FS, and body weight traits showed higher heritability (although low magnitude) in the multiple-trait model due to increased information about traits. All WR characters showed a significant genetic correlation, and heritability estimates ranged from low (0.44; single-trait model) to high (0.88; multiple-trait model). Conclusion: Therefore, we suggest that FS be included as a criterion of ovine genetic selection for endoparasite resistance using the trait defined by multivariate cluster analysis, as it will provide greater genetic gains when compared to any single trait. In addition, its measurement is easy and inexpensive, exhibiting greater heritability and repeatability and a high genetic correlation with the trait of resistance to worms.

  • Super-resolution can improve the clarity of low-resolution (LR) images, which can increase the accuracy of high-level compute vision tasks. Portable devices have low computing power and storage performance. Large-scale neural network super-resolution methods are not suitable for portable devices. In order to save the computational cost and the number of parameters, Lightweight image processing method can improve the processing speed of portable devices. Therefore, we propose the Enhanced Information Multiple Distillation Network (EIMDN) to adapt lower delay and cost. The EIMDN takes feedback mechanism as the framework and obtains low level features through high level features. Further, we replace the feature extraction convolution operation in Information Multiple Distillation Block (IMDB), with Ghost module, and propose the Enhanced Information Multiple Distillation Block (EIMDB) to reduce the amount of calculation and the number of parameters. Finally, coordinate attention (CA) is used at the end of IMDB and EIMDB to enhance the important information extraction from Spaces and channels. Experimental results show that our proposed can achieve convergence faster with fewer parameters and computation, compared with other lightweight super-resolution methods. Under the condition of higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and higher structural similarity (SSIM), the performance of network reconstruction image texture and target contour is significantly improved.

  • The time-consuming and less objectivity are the main problems of conventional micromechanical parameters calibration method of Particle Flow Code simulations. Thus this study aims to address these two limitation of the conventional "trial-and-error" method. A new calibration method for the linear parallel bond model (CM-LPBM) is proposed. First, numerical simulations are conducted based on the results of the uniaxial compression tests on limestone. The macroscopic response of the numerical model agrees well with the results of the uniaxial compression tests. To reduce the number of the independent micromechanical parameters, numerical simulations are then carried out. Based on the results of the orthogonal experiments and the multi-factor variance analysis, main micromechanical parameters affecting the macro parameters of rocks are proposed. The macro-micro parameter functions are ultimately established using multiple linear regression, and the iteration correction formulas of the micromechanical parameters are obtained. To further verify the validity of the proposed method, a case study is carried out. The error between the macro mechanical response and the numerical results is less than 5%. Hence the calibration method, i.e., the CM-LPBM, is reliable for obtaining the micromechanical parameters quickly and accurately, providing reference for the calibration of micromechanical parameters.

  • We develop an embedded system to measure various sensor data, control multiple motors, and communicate with mobile devices for system managements. Choosing TI AM3359 microprocessor featuring high processing performance, low power consumption, and various I/O device support, we design and build the embedded system hardware so that it supports multiple global positioning system (GPS) and gyro sensor modules to measure precise position; multiple pulse width modulation (PWM) outputs to control multiple direct current (DC) motors; a Bluetooth module to communicate with mobile devices. Then, we port the boot loader and device drivers to the built circuit board and construct the firmware development environment for the application programming. The performance of the designed and implemented embedded system is demonstrated by real motor control test using GPS and gyro sensor data and control parameters configured by a mobile device.

Series tuned mass dampers in vibration control of continuous railway bridges

  • This paper presents the applicability of series tuned mass dampers (STMDs) to reduce the multiple resonant responses of continuous railway bridges under high-speed train. The bridge is modeled by two-span Bernoulli-Euler beam with uniform cross-section, and a STMD device consisting of two TMD units installed on the bridge to reduce its multiple resonant vibrations. The system is assumed to be under the action of a high-speed train passage which is modeled as a series of moving forces. Sequential Programming Technique (SQP) is carried out to find the optimal parameters of the STMD that minimizes the maximum peak responses of the bridge. Comparisons with the results available in the literature are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of STMD system in reducing the multiple resonant responses of the continuous railway bridges under high-speed trains.

  • 본 연구에서는 가스 터빈 엔진의 결함에 의해 나타나는 엔진의 성능 저하를 진단하는 기법을 연구하였다. 대상 엔진을 모델화하기 위해 상용 프로그램 GSP를 이용하여 저하된 성능 진단을 위한 변수들을 추출하였으며 이를 바탕으로 Health Monitoring을 위한 Virtual Sensor Model을 구축하였다. 단일 결함과 복합 결함을 예측하기 위한 방법으로 Multiple Linear Regression기법과 가중치를 이용한 기법을 도입하여 엔진 구성품의 결함 위치 및 결함 정도를 예측하였다.

  • In order to suppress the structural vibration more effectively, Multiple Tuned Mass Damper(MTMD) which is composed of a number of Tuned Mass Damper(TMD) can be used. Especially, the passive MTMD has several advantages over active TMD like easy installment and maintenance, cost and performance for power failure situation(severe damage of power lines from earthquake), etc.. For this purpose the mass and damping ratio of MTMD and the distributed frequency range which shows the range of MTMD's distribution are used as main design parameters. When the passive MTMD is constituted with multiple cantilevers, the facility in its real production and its need for only a smaller space can be named as its several advantages. In this study, the satisfactory results were obtained from the composition of MTMD utilizing dynamic characters of cantilevers, and the verification was done by the comparison of the analysis from MTMD with the computer simulation.

Emulator for Generating Heterogeneous Interference Signals in the Korean RFID/USN Frequency Band

  • In this study, we suggest an emulator for generating multiple heterogeneous interference signals in the Korean radio frequency identification/ubiquitous sensor network (RFID/USN) frequency band. The proposed emulator uses only one universal software radio peripheral to generate multiple heterogeneous interference signals more economically. Moreover, the physical and media access control parameters can be adjusted in real time using the LabVIEW program, thereby making it possible to create various time-varying interference environments easily. As an example showing the capability of the proposed emulator, multiple interference signals consisting of a frequency-hopping RFID signal and two LoRa signals with different spreading factors were generated. The generated signals were confirmed in both frequency and time domains. From the experimental results, we verified that our emulator could successfully generate multiple heterogeneous interference signals with different frequency and time domain characteristics.

  • This paper investigates the application of the computer method COMSOAL (Computer Method of Sequencing Operations for Assembly Lines) to the process routing (PR) problem with multiple objectives. In any computer aided process planning (CAPP) system, one of the most critical activities for manufacturing a part could be to generate the sequence that optimizes production time, production cost, machine utilization or with multiple these criteria. The COMSOAL has been adopted to find the optimum sequence of operations that optimizes two major conflicting criteria : production cost and production quality. The COMSOAL is here slightly modified to simultaneously generate and evaluate a set of possible solutions (called as population) instead of processing a solution stepwise in each iteration. The significant features of the COMSOAL include : no parameters settings needed, and a guarantee of feasible solutions. Experimental results show that COMSOAL is a simple but powerful method to quickly generate multiple feasible solutions which are as good as the ones obtained from several other well-known process routing algorithms.

  • In this paper, we consider possibility that the multiple errors occur in each testing stage. At present, software reliability modeling is considered as a part of software reliability quality assurance in software engineering. However they dealt with the software growth model for the single error debugging at each testing stage until now. Hence it is necessary to study software reliability with multiple errors debugging. Therefore we propose software reliability growth modeling and estimate the parameters in the proposed software reliability growth model for the multiple errors debugging at each testing stage.
