  • In aviation navigation by GPS, requirements on availability and integrity must be absolutely satisfied for safety. Current study on accomplishing this integrity includes RAM(Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring), checking integrity internally in GPS receiver itself. However RAIM techniques have be investigated and presented under assumption that there is included only one fault in measurements from GPS, In case of multiple fault, an interaction among bias errors sometimes results in decreasing the effect of multiple fault. This may make an exact fault detection and identification difficult, and study on mutiple fault RAIM focused on. This paper explains the reasons that techniques applied on single fault are not adequate to extend directly to two faults case and shows that RAIM solution on two fault may be given in revised parity space.

  • This paper presents the new methods of fault diagnosis through multiple alarm processing of protective relays and circuit breakers in power systems using probabilistic neural networks. In this paper, fault section detection neural network (FSDNN) for fault diagnosis is designed using the alarm information of relays or circuit breakers. In contrast to conventional methods, the proposed FSDNN determines the fault section directly and fast. To show the possibility of the proposed method, it is simulated through simulation panel for Sinyangsan substation system in KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corporation) and the case studies show the effectiveness of the probabilistic neural network mehtod for the fault diagnosis.

  • 다중 트림 상태에서 헬리콥터용 소형 터보샤프트 엔진에 부착된 센서의 고장을 검출하기 위한 방법을 제시한다. 먼저 헬리곱터의 엔진, 로터, 되먹임(feedback) 제어루프가 포함된 비선형 모델을 구하고 다중 트림 상태에서의 선형 모델을 추출하였다. 고장 검출 방법은 칼만필터에 기반한 방법을 채용하였는데 트림 상태가 변화할 때에 필터의 추정값이 연속적으로 변화하도록 상태변수 초기값을 재구성하였다. 또한 어떠한 센서가 고장이 일어났는지 구분할 수 있도록 어떤 센서의 고장을 검출한 다음 문제가 없는 경우 다음 센서의 고장 검출을 수행하는 단계적인 방법을 사용하였다. 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제시한 방법이 다중 트림 상태에서 각 센서의 고장을 잘 검출함을 보였다.

Detection and Classification of Demagnetization and Short-Circuited Turns in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

  • The research related to fault diagnosis in permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) has attracted considerable attention in recent years because various faults such as permanent magnet demagnetization and short-circuited turns can occur and result in unexpected failure of motor related system. Several conventional current and back electromotive force (BEMF) analysis techniques were proposed to detect certain faults in PMSMs; however, they generally deal with a single fault only. On the contrary, cases of multiple faults are common in PMSMs. We propose a fault diagnosis method for PMSMs with single and multiple combined faults. Our method uses three phase BEMF voltages based on the fast Fourier transform (FFT), support vector machine(SVM), and visualization tools for identifying fault types and severities in PMSMs. Principal component analysis (PCA) and t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE) are used to visualize the high-dimensional data into two-dimensional space. Experimental results show good visualization performance and high classification accuracy to identify fault types and severities for single and multiple faults in PMSMs.

  • The hybrid fault diagnosis method based on a combination of the signed digraph (SDG) and the partial least-squares (PLS) has the advantage of improving the diagnosis resolution, accuracy and reliability, compared to those of previous qualitative methods, and of enhancing the ability to diagnose multiple fault. In this study, the method is applied for the multiple fault diagnosis of the Tennessee Eastman challenge process, which is a realistic industrial process for evaluating process contol and monitoring methods. The process is decomposed using the local qualitative relationships of each measured variable. Dynamic PLS (DPLS) model is built to estimate each measured variable, which is then compared with the estimated value in order to diagnose the fault. Through case studies of 15 single faults and 44 double faults, the proposed method demonstrated a good diagnosis capability compared with previous statistical methods.

  • Multiple faults are hard to diagnose correctly because the operation of circuit breakers tripped by former fault changes the topology of power systems. The information including operating time of actuated relays and tripped circuit breakers is used for considering changes of the network topology in fault section diagnosis. This paper presents a method for fault section diagnosis using a set of matrices which represent changes of the network topology due to operation of circuit breakers. The proposed method uses fuzzy relation to cope with the unavoidable uncertainties imposed on fault section diagnosis of power systems. The inference executed by the proposed matrices provides the fault section candidates in the form of a matrix made up of the degree of membership. Experimental studies for real power systems reveal usefulness of the proposed technique to diagnose multiple faults.

  • Approximately 20% of the total fire is electrical fire, and electrical energy is a potential source of heat. Large-scale fault currents that occur during a line ground fault flow into electric utility poles, electric power equipment, or electric appliances of the customer, and cause simultaneous electrical fire. In this paper, we investigated the possibility of fire through the change of fault current flowing in faulty and sound feeder in case of 1 line ground fault in 22.9 kV distribution line. We propose a fire investigation analysis method for simultaneous multiple electrical fire such as evidence analysis method, and fault current occurrence confirmation method in case of fire accident by analyzing the fault current occurring in the ground fault in the distribution line using EMTP, electric power system analysis program.

CIM 구축을 위한 지능형 고장진단 시스템 개발 (Development of Intelligent Fault Diagnosis System for CIM)

  • This paper describes the fault diagnosis method to order to construct CIM in complex system with hierarchical structure similar to human body structure. Complex system is divided into unit, item and component. For diagnosing this hierarchical complex system, it is necessary to implement a special neural network. Fault diagnosis system can forecast faults in a system and decide from the signal information of current machine state. Comparing with other diagnosis system for a single fault, the developed system deals with multiple fault diagnosis, comprising hierarchical neural network (HNN). HNN consists of four level neural network, i.e. first is fault symptom classification and second fault diagnosis for item, third is symptom classification and forth fault diagnosis for component. UNIX IPC is used for implementing HNN with multitasking and message transfer between processes in SUN workstation with X-Windows (Motif). We tested HNN at four units, seven items per unit, seven components per item in a complex system. Each one neural network represents a separate process in UNIX operating system, information exchanging and cooperating between each neural network was done by message queue.

  • VLSI의 복잡도가 증가함에 따라, 보다 복잡한 고장이 나타나게 되었다. 단일 고장 진단을 위한 많은 방법들이 연구되어 왔다. 때로는 오류가 존재하는 칩에 대한 다중 결함이 실제 현상을 보다 더 정확하게 반영한다. 따라서 다중 고착 고장을 위한 효율적인 고장 진단 알고리듬을 제한하겠다. 제안하는 매칭 알고리듬은 완전일치공통부분을 고장 진단의 중요한 기준으로 사용함으로써 단일 고착 고장 시뮬레이터 환경에서도 다중 고착 고장을 진단할 수 있다. 또한 각 고장간의 식별성을 높여 다중 고착 고장을 진단함에도 불구하고, 고장 후보의 수를 획기적으로 줄일 수 있었다. 이를 위하여 출력단의 수에 따른 가중치 개념과 가산, 감산 연산을 사용하였다. 제안한 매칭 알고리듬은 ISCAS85회로와 완전 주사 스캔이 삽입된 ISCAS89회로에서 실험하여 성능을 입증하였다.

  • Analog instrument and control systems in nuclear power plants have recently been replaced with digital systems for safer and more efficient operation. Digital instrument and control systems have adopted various fault-tolerant techniques that help the system correctly and safely perform the specific required functions regardless of the presence of faults. Each fault-tolerant technique has a different inspection period, from real-time monitoring to monthly testing. The range covered by each faulttolerant technique is also different. The digital instrument and control system, therefore, adopts multiple barriers consisting of various fault-tolerant techniques to increase the total fault detection coverage. Even though these fault-tolerant techniques are adopted to ensure and improve the safety of a system, their effects on the system safety have not yet been properly considered in most probabilistic safety analysis models. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an evaluation method that can describe these features of digital instrument and control systems. Several issues must be considered in the fault coverage estimation of a digital instrument and control system, and two of these are addressed in this work. The first is to quantify the fault coverage of each fault-tolerant technique implemented in the system, and the second is to exclude the duplicated effect of fault-tolerant techniques implemented simultaneously at each level of the system's hierarchy, as a fault occurring in a system might be detected by one or more fault-tolerant techniques. For this work, a fault injection experiment was used to obtain the exact relations between faults and multiple barriers of faulttolerant techniques. This experiment was applied to a bistable processor of a reactor protection system.
