  • This study purposed to analyze difference in experience of life in Korea among adolescents whose immigrant backgrounds were different (Korean-born children of multicultural families and foreign-born immigrant children) using the data of the 2012 National Survey of Multicultural Families (adolescent children aged between 9 and 24). According to the results of analysis, first, multicultural adolescents with immigrant backgrounds experienced 'difficulty in using the Korean language (speaking, listening, reading, and writing),' 'school dropout,' and 'school violence' more frequently than Korean-born multicultural adolescents. Second, with regard to social discrimination (friends, teachers, relatives, neighbors, and unknown people), multicultural adolescents with immigrant backgrounds experienced 'discrimination by teachers,' 'discrimination by relatives,' 'discrimination by neighbors,' and 'discrimination by unknown people' more frequently than Korean-born multicultural adolescents. By analyzing these differences, this study suggested directions for differentiated support policies and specific strategies for adjustment to life in Korea by multicultural family adolescents with different backgrounds.

  • This research seeks to examine the relationship between multicultural education experiences and the multicultural acceptability of military officers. The sample included 552 Republic of Korea Army officers and non-commissioned officers(NCOs) who were located in Gangwon-Do and Gyeonggi-Do. For the statistical analysis, SPSS 18.0 was used to perform descriptive statistical analysis, frequency analysis, differential verification, and multiple regression analysis. The major analysis results are as follows: First, The multicultural acceptability of the military officers and NCOs, including sub-factors, was above the mean level; in terms of the ranking per sub-factor, the scores were in the order of diversity, relationship, and universality. The experience frequency of the targets and the evaluation was lowest in the educational experience within the military, and the evaluations were in the order of public media, school, and military. Second, The differential verification, depending on the characteristics of the sociology of the population and the existence of the multicultural educational experience, showed that the duration of education(personal factor), marital status(family factor), existence of a foreign relative(family factor), and existence of experience of managing multicultural personnel as soldiers under command(military-related factor) showed a significant difference in multicultural acceptability. Additionally, the existence of multicultural education through schools and public media lead to a significant difference in multicultural acceptability, but the existence of education within the military did not lead to a significant difference. Third, The analysis of the influencing relationship through multiple regression analysis showed that the higher the evaluation of multicultural education through the military, school, and public media, the higher the multicultural acceptability. Therefore, this research proposes multicultural educational plans that may improve the multicultural acceptability of military officers and NCOs as a way to establish a multicultural composition in the army.

  • This study identifies the aspects of a managers' perceived work experience in a Multicultural Family Support Center and analyzes how work experience backgrounds are formulated. In-depth interviews were conducted with 10 managers from March to September 2015 to understand managers' work experience. Descriptions from the interviews were analyzed using phenomenological research methods. The result show that their work experience can be categorized into 73 meanings, 10 subcategories, and five themes. The five themes are 'program development,' 'employees assignment optimization,' 'use and control network resources,' 'deal with changes in needs of multicultural families,' and 'supports vs. controls.' The analysis of the themes and subcategories from each theme allows us to first interpret that managers consider their significant and diversified work tasks overwhelming. Second, they find their jobs fit them and feel personally interested with a sense of duty from their work to overcome stress from heavy workloads. Third, managers put a high value on their work as a hands-on experience that is an officially authorized position from the government. Fourth, they are proud that they contribute to offering welfare services to multicultural families as members of Multicultural Family Support Centers.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the moderated effects of multicultural contact experience on the relationship between social distance and multicultural acceptability among nursing students. The sample for this study consisted of 174 nursing students from four universities located in Korea. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson correlation and hierarchical multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 23.0. It was found that: (a) multicultural acceptability had a negative correlation with social distance(r=-.61, p<.001), whereas a positive correlation was observed with experience of multicultural contact(r=.24, p=.002); (b) the interaction effect by multicultural contact experience and social distance had a significant influence on the multicultural acceptability(${\beta}=-.18$, p=.003); (c) experience of multicultural contact moderated the relationship between social distance and multicultural acceptability(${\Delta}R^2=0.30$, p=.003). Results of the study suggest that the greater the experience of multicultural contact, the greater the negative effect of social distance on multicultural acceptability. Therefore, to increase the multicultural acceptability of nursing students, it is important to encourage the positive experiences of multicultural contact and thus reduce social distance.
