  • This paper introduces a method for calculation of dynamic stress occurring in flexible bodies of a moving multibody system by using commercial softwares DADS for dynamic analysis and MSC/NASTRAN for finite element analysis. Three methods for model transient response analysis of a flexible body are summarized. Elastic deformation of a flexible body can be described with normal modes and static modes composed of constraint modes and residual attachment modes. The deformation modes divided into fixed-interface modes and free-interface modes can be determined by using MSC/NASTRAN and selected for dynamic analysis. The dynamic results obtained from DADS are utilized to calculate dynamic stress by using mode-displacement method or mode-acceleration method of MSC/NASTRAN. As a numerical example of the analysis, we used a three dimensional slider-crank model with a flexible connecting rod.

  • Vehicle dynamic simulation has been carried out using the coherence of road roughness between left and right wheels. The generated twin tracks with the coherence of road roughness between left and right wheels are in good agreements with the measured coherence relation of left and right wheels. And these tracks reflect well on the roughness characteristics of real roads. Using the generated roads and multibody dynamic simulation program, vehicle dynamic simulation is performed. The vertical and roll motion analysis of a vehicle are carried out using the realistic road profiles with the coherence between left and right wheels and the results are in good agreements with the dynamic characteristics of a vehicle.

  • This paper deals with dynamic characteristics of the experimental magnetic levitation vehicle employing LSM(Linear Synchronous Motor) for propulsion. To predict the dynamic characteristics of the system, the dynamic model which is composed of the electrical elements such as electromagnets and LSM and mechanical components and is developed based on multibody dynamics is developed. The resulting system equations of motion for the model are a coupled one representing all the mechanical and electrical parts. To verify the dynamic model of the system, air gaps are measured in both running tests and simulation, and the frequency characteristics of air gaps are analyzed. From the results, it can be seen that the frequency responses are almost the same. Finally, to evaluate the levitation stability and the designed controller, numerical simulations are carried out.

  • For the analysis of dynamic behavior of dynamic behavior of multibody systems by cartesian coordinate method, maximal sets of generalized coordinates and maximum numbers of differential equation and constraints must be considered. Therefore the inefficiency of the increase of CPU time is occurred. This paper is to analyze the dynamic system by using the relative coordinate method without violating the geometric condition of systems. The graph theory and system topology were used for this study. The dynamic systems could be analyzed by the automatic generation of the informations like equation of motion, constraints, and external forces etc. And the results were compared and verified with dynamic commercial package DADS.

  • This paper deals with dynamic walking and inverse dynamic analysis of the IWR biped walking robot. The system has nine bodies of the multibody dynamics. and all of the .joints of them are made up of the revolute joints at first. The problem of redundant constraint in double support phase is solved by changing the type of the joints considering kinematic relation. To make sure of its dynamic walking, the movement of balancing weight is determined by which satisfies not only the condition of ZMP by applying the principle of D'Alembert but also the contact condition of the ground. The modeling of IWR and dynamic walking are realized using DADS.

  • In this paper, dynamic response analysis of a heave compensation system is performed for offshore drilling operations based on multibody dynamics. With this simulation, the efficiency of the heave compensation system can be virtually confirmed before it is applied to drilling operations. The heave compensation system installed on a semi-submersible platform consists of a passive and an active heave compensator. The passive and active heave compensator are composed of several bodies that are connected to each other with various types of joints. Therefore, to carry out the dynamic response analysis, the dynamics kernel was developed based on mutibody dynamics. To construct the equations of motion of the multibody system and to determine the unknown accelerations and constraint forces, the recursive Newton-Euler formulation was adapted. Functions of the developed dynamics kernel were verified by comparing them with other commercial dynamics kernels. The hydrostatic force with nonlinear effects, the linearized hydrodynamic force, and the pneumatic and hydraulic control forces were considered as the external forces that act on the platform of the semi-submersible rig and the heave compensation system. The dynamic simulation of the heave compensation system of the semi-submersible rig, which is available for drilling operations with a 3,600m water depth, was carried out. From the results of the simulation, the efficiency of the heave compensation system were evaluated before they were applied to the offshore drilling operations. Moreover, the calculated constraint forces could serve as reference data for the design of the mechanical system.

  • This paper presents the dynamic analysis method for an electromechanical system. The engineer has at his disposal a variety of software simulation tools. However, difficulties arise when the study of the behavior of complex electromechanical systems in combination with coupling element is required. Typical examples of such systems are machines for factory automation, home automation, and office automation. Dynamic systems analysis packages or electronic systems analysis packages offer the restrictive to simulate these mixed systems such electromechanical product. Electronic circuit analysis algorithm is easily incorporated into a multi-body dynamics analysis algorithm. The governing equation of electronic circuit is formulated as a differential algebraic equation form including both electrical and mechanical variables and is simultaneously solved in every time step. This analysis method clearly demonstrates the application potential for mixed electromechanical simulation.

  • In this paper, the combined system equation of motion, which can analyze the dynamic interaction between pantograph and catenary system, is derived by adopting absolute nodal coordinates and rigid body coordinates. The analysis results are compared with real experiment data from test running of Korean high-speed train (HSR 350x). In addition, a computation method for the dynamic stress of contact wire is presented using the derived system equation of motion. This method might be good example and significant in that the structural and multibody dynamics model can be unified into one numerical system.

  • In this study, 3 dimensional non-linear race car vehicle model including Chassis, steering and suspension systems were modeled by using Multi-Body Dynamics Simulation Program, DADS 9.5(Dynamic Analysis and Design System),which was used in kinematic and dynamic analysis. A full race car vehicle dynamics model using DADS program was presented and analysis was carried out to estimate the handling characteristics that may be very useful to design a race car in early design stage. The simulation of vehicle handling behavior for step steering input was simulated and compared with different design parameters: torsional stiffness of the front and rear anti roll bars, the motion ratio of the front and rear suspension system, the location of the tie rod joint, in multibody dynamic model. Therefore this simulation model before race car construction in early design step will be helpful for race car designer to save time and limited budget.

  • The objective of this paper is to develop a solution method for the differential-algebraic equation(DAE) derived from constrained muti-body dynamic systems. Mechanical systems are often modeled as bodies and joints. Differential equations of motion are formulated for bodies. Since the bodies are connected by joint, the differential variables must satisfy the kinematic constraint equations that come from the joints. Difficulties are arised due to drift of the differential variables off the constraint equations. An optimization method is adopted to correct the drift of the differential variables. To demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method a slider-crank mechanism is analyzed dynamically. Identical results are obtained as these from the commercial program DADS. Dynamic analysis of a High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled. Vehicle(HMMWV) is carried out to show the practicalism of the proposed method.
