  • A model of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with an inter turn short fault is proposed using a deformed flux model. The deformed flux model includes not only the fault winding flux information but also the inductance variation of the healthy winding considering the configuration of the winding distribution. With the deformed flux model and the positive sequence current assumption, the proposed model is derived in the positive and negative sequence synchronous reference frame (SRF). The finite elements method (FEM) simulation is applied to validate the proposed PMSM model with inter turn short fault.

  • Actuator failures and the failures of controlled objects are often considered together. To overcome this limitation, a class of sliding mode observers for the fault diagnosis of nonlinear systems is designed in this paper. Due to the influence of the sliding mode function, the control strategy and the residual change of the observer exhibit certain trends governed by specific relations. Therefore, according to the changes in the control strategy and the observer residuals, the sensor and actuator faults in nonlinear systems can be determined. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified based on simulations of a DC motor system.

  • The regression analysis in the six sigma process is used to reduce the vibration of an electric grinder. The vibration characteristics and the contribution of each part to overall vibration of the electric grinder is investigated through various vibration measurements and frequency analysis for the assembled and disassembled one. Then the application of the regression analysis finds out that the rotating components of the armature have more severe contributions to the overall vibration than the frequency components of the fan or the gear part, which is decided with higher value of the coefficient of determination. The unbalance and looseness of the armature and the fan are tested again by the regression analysis in order to decide how much unbalance or looseness should be reduced for the predetermined goal of vibration level of the electric grinder. These results show that the regression analysis can be a valuable tool in production line to decide where and how much faults needs to be adjusted for the reduction of vibration and noise.

  • This paper presents a new approach integrated Case-Based Reasoning with Self. Organization Map(SOM) in diagnosis systems. The causes of faults are obtained by case-base trained from SOM. When the vibration problem of rotating machinery occurs, this provides an exact diagnosis method that shows the fault cause of vibration problem. In order to verify the performance of algorithm, we applied it to diagnose the fault cause of the electric motor.

  • A Detection filter that can be used for the Detection and Isolation of process faults is proposed by the use of fault vector modelling, and is applied to DC Motor fault detection. The proposed detection filter is a new one in a view point that its outputs are the estimates of fault variables(or linear combination of them) while all the existing filters estimate the state of process. By this properties, the process fault detection systems with this filter can be constructed in very simple structure. Besides the simplicity of structure and design procedure, the filter has an useful feature that various types of fault can be estimated via the filter by choosing appropriate fault models.

  • Computer Loads can be found in all of modern society. The switching mode power supplies used in personal computers are major sources of harmonic currents. Harmonic currents can cause lots of harmonic problems such as disruption in computer performance. A series resonant filter is very effective in harmonic reduction for personal computer loads. Voltage sags are short duration reductions in rms voltage. The main causes of voltage sags are faults, motor starting, and transformer energizing. Personal computers are another example of devices sensitive to voltage sags. A serious voltage sag at the terminals way lead mis-operation of the equipment. This paper presents an in depth analysis to evaluate the effect of harmonics reduction based on the IEC 61000-3-2 and the effect of voltage sag using ITI curve by applying a series resonant filter for personal computer loads.

  • A residual generation scheme that can be employed in the process fault detection and isolation systems for a class of nonlinear (control) systems is suggested. Although the scheme is a kind of observer scheme, the design of the observers employed for residual generation is very simple and the order of the observer is very low. In spite of the simplicity, the residual generation scheme provides the same information for the detection and isolation of the anticipated faults as the conventional multiple observer based schemes. The residuals may be structured so that fault isolation can be performed by pre-selected logic. An FDIS using the residual generation scheme is constructed and evaluated for a nonlinear DC motor system.

  • In many high performance engineering systems such as automated production system and transportation systems, AC-servo drives are employed as the most Important driving parts. And the faults of servo drives result in overall system performance deterioration or an unscheduled shutdown In critical situations. The real-time fault detection and isolation(FDI) scheme Is very useful to prevent them and to guarantee the desired reliability of the overall system. In this paper, the FDI schemes which can be applied to AC servo drives are introduced and some new results are presented.

  • The technology of machine condition monitoring is used effectively to detect the machine faults at an early stage using different machine quantities, such as current, voltage, temperature and vibration. Induction motors are most widely used to drive pumps, compressors and fans in industrial drives. This paper presents approach to data fusion using Dempster-Shafer theory because only one technique has uncertainty. So we can obtain advanced accuracy of the machine fault diagnosis. Vibration and current quantities are applied to diagnose three-phase induction motor.

  • The diagnosis of faults of machine tool, which is controlled by CNC and PLC, is generally based on ladder diagram of PLC. Because sequential controls for CNC and servo motor are mostly processed in PLC. However, when fault is occurred, a searching for logical relation to fault reasons is required a lot of fault experiences and times, because PLC program has step structure. In this paper, FDS(Fault Diagnosis System) is developed and implemented to machine tool with open architecture controller in order to find the reason of fault lastly and correctly. The diagnosed reasons for fault are tele-serviced on web through developed RSS(Remote Service System). The operationability and usefulness of developed system are evaluated on specially manufactured machine tool with open architecture CNC. The results of this research can be the model of remote monitoring and fault diagnosis system of machine tool with open architecture CNC.
