  • Dispersion coefficient preprocessing schemes have been examined to improve plume dispersion model performance in complex coastal areas. The performances of various schemes for constructing the sigma correction order were evaluated through estimations of statistical measures, such as bias, gross error, R, FB, NMSE, within FAC2, MG, VG, IOA, UAPC and MRE. This was undertaken for the results of dispersion modeling, which applied each scheme. Environmental factors such as sampling time, surface roughness, plume rising, plume height and terrain rolling were considered in this study. Gaussian plume dispersion model was used to calculate 1 hr $SO_2$ concentration 4 km downwind from a power plant in Boryeung coastal area. Here, measured data for January to December of 2002 were obtained so that modelling results could be compared. To compare the performances between various schemes, integrated scores of statistical measures were obtained by giving weights for each measure and then summing each score. This was done because each statistical measure has its own function and criteria; as a result, no measure can be taken as a sole index indicative of the performance level for each modeling scheme. The best preprocessing scheme was discerned using the step-wise method. The most significant factor influencing the magnitude of real dispersion coefficients appeared to be sampling time. A second significant factor appeared to be surface roughness, with the rolling terrain being the least significant for elevated sources in a gently rolling terrain. The best sequence of correcting the sigma from P-G scheme was found to be the combination of (1) sampling time, (2) surface roughness, (3) plume rising, (4) plume height, and (5) terrain rolling.

  • Interpretation of time-domain electromagnetic (TEM) data has been made mostly based on one-dimensional (1-D) inversion scheme in Korea. A proper interpretation of TEM data should employ 3-D TEM forward and inverse modeling algorithms. This study developed a 3-D TEM modeling algorithm using a finite difference time-domain (FDTD) method with staggered grid. In numerically solving Maxwell equations, fictitious displacement current is included based on an explicit FDTD method using a central difference approximation scheme. The developed modeling algorithm simulated a small-coil source configuration to be verified against analytic solutions for homogeneous half-space models. Further, TEM responses for a 3-D anomaly are modeled and analyzed. We expect that it will contribute greatly to the precise interpretation of TEM data.

  • For the purpose of evaluating dose rate to individual due to long-term release of nuclides from the HLW repository, a biosphere assessment model and the implemented code, ACBIO, based on BIOMASS methodology have been developed by utilizing AMBER, a general compartment modeling tool. To show its practicability and usability as well as to see the sensitivity of compartment scheme or parametric variation to concentration and activity in compartments as well as annual flux between compartments at their peak values, some calculations are made and investigated: For each case when changing the structure of compartments and GBIs as well as varying selected input Kd values, all of which seem very important among others, dose rate per nuclide release rate is separately calculated and analyzed. From the maximum dose rates (Bq/y), flux-to-dose conversion factors (Sv/Bq) for each nuclide were derived, which are to be used for converting the nuclide release rate appearing from the geosphere through various GBIs to dose rate (Sv/y) for individual in critical group. It has been also observed that compartment scheme, identification of possible exposure group and GBIs could be all highly sensitive to the final consequences in biosphere modeling.

  • This paper presents a new modeling technique for the simulation of cloth specific characteristics with a set of hard constraints using an implicit constraint enforcement scheme. A conventional explicit Baumgarte constraint stabilization method has several defects. It requires users to pick problem-dependent coefficients to achieve fast convergence and has inherent stabilization limits. The proposed implicit constraint enforcement method is stable with large time steps, does not require problem dependent feed-back parameters, and guarantees the natural physics-based motion of an object. In addition, its computational complexity is the same as the explicit Baumgarte method. This paper describes a formulation of implicit constraint enforcement and provides a constraint error analysis. The modeling technique for complex components of cloth such as seams, buttons, sharp creases, wrinkles, and prevention of excessive elongation are explained. Combined with an adaptive constraint activation scheme, the results using the proposed method show the substantial enhancement of the realism of cloth simulations with a corresponding savings in computational cost.

  • This paper proposes a ray-based forward modeling scheme which is suitable for the shallow water acoustic wave propagation simulations. The proposed model comprises of ray tracings for the layered media of which sound speed profiles are interpolated linearly. considerations of plane and spherical wave reflection coefficients. and calculations of the phases and the amplitudes of eigen rays. The main characteristic of the scheme is fast simulation time due to direct calculation of the broad-band time signals in the time-domain, i.e. without transformation of the frequency-domain solutions to the time si 밍 131s. Finally, we applied the model to 4-types of test environments and compared the resulting signals with those of ORCA and Ram in order to validate the proposed model.

  • Recently, Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) technology recently has been used in various industries. Especially, a number of multi-channel assignment schemes have been presented to improve the throughput of IEEE 802.11-based multi-hop WMN. However, performance of the conventional multi-channel assignment schemes is not enough to satisfy the industry requirements. We, thus, should study more about the multi-channel assignment scheme in order to enhance the performance. This paper proposes a novel channel assignment scheme that employs Multi-channel and Multi-Interface in the WMN. The proposed scheme can obtain the traffic information of the network and the efficient channel assignment result without any message exchanges. We verify the efficiency of the proposed scheme through the mathematical modeling and the real-world experiments. The results show that the proposed scheme improves the throughput of the network compared with the conventional schemes.

  • Resonant converters are well suited for induction heating (IH) applications due to their advantages such as efficiency and power density. The control systems of these appliances should provide smooth and wide power control with fewer losses. In this paper, a simple phase locked loop (PLL) based variable duty cycle (VDC) pulse density modulation (PDM) power control scheme for use in class-D inverters for IH loads is proposed. This VDC PDM control method provides a wide power control range. This control scheme also achieves stable and efficient Zero-Voltage-Switching (ZVS) operation over a wide load range. Analysis and modeling of an IH load is done to perform a time domain simulation. The design and output power analysis of a class-D inverter are done for both the conventional pulse width modulation (PWM) and the proposed PLL based VDC PDM methods. The control principles of the proposed method are described in detail. The validity of the proposed control scheme is verified through MATLAB simulations. The PLL loop maintains operation closer to the resonant frequency irrespective of variations in the load parameters. The proposed control scheme provides a linear output power variation to simplify the control logic. A prototype of the class-D inverter system is implemented to validate the simulation results.

  • In this paper we describe a distributed location management scheme to reduce the bottleneck problem of HLR in Large Personal Communication Networks (LPCNs). Using analytical modeling and numerical simulation, we show that replicating location information is both appropriate and efficient for small Personal Communication Network (PCN). Then, we extend the scheme in a hierarchical environment to reduce overhead traffic and scale to LPCNs. Through extensive numerical results, we show the superiority of our scheme compared to the current IS-41 standard scheme.

  • With the increasing use of smartphone apps, many apps are coming out in various fields. In order to analyze the current status and trends of apps in a specific field, it is necessary to establish a classification scheme. Various schemes considering users' behavior and characteristics of apps have been proposed, but there is a problem in that many apps are released and a fixed classification scheme must be updated according to the passage of time. Although it is necessary to consider many aspects in establishing classification scheme, it is possible to grasp the trend of the app through the proposal of a classification scheme according to the characteristic of the app. This research proposes a method of establishing an app classification scheme through the description of the app written by the app developers. For this purpose, we collected explanations about apps in the tourism field and identified major categories through topic modeling. Using only the apps corresponding to the topic, we construct a network of words contained in the explanatory text and identify subcategories based on the networks of words. Six topics were selected, and Clauset Newman Moore algorithm was applied to each topic to identify subcategories. Four or five subcategories were identified for each topic.
