In this paper, an adaptive speed controller with an FNN(Feedforward Neural Network) is proposed for servo motor drives. Generally, the motor system has nonlinearities in friction, load disturbance and magnetic saturation. It is necessary to treat the nonlinearities for improving performance in servo control. The FNN can be applied to control and identify a nonlinear dynamical system by learning capability. In this study, at first, a robust speed controller is developed by Lyapunov stability theory. However, the control input has discontinuity which generates an inherent chattering. To solve the problem and to improve the performances, the FNN is introduced to convert the discontinuous input to continuous one in error boundary. The FNN is applied to identify the inverse dynamics of the motor and to control the motor using coordination of feedforward control combined with inverse motor dynamics identification. The proposed controller is developed for an SR motor which has highly nonlinear characteristics and it is compared with an MRAC(Model Reference Adaptive Controller). Experiments on an SR motor illustrate te validity of the proposed controller.
In this paper, a ramp tracking controller design method is proposed for the systems with nonlinear frictions. The objective is to design a controller which is capable of tracking a ramp reference input without steady state error. The controller is composed of a linear controller, integrators for error compensation, and a friction compensator. The compensator estimates the parameters of friction model. The friction parameters are estimated using two different method. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed method is effective.

A composite adaptive dual fuzzy controller combining the approximate mathematical model, linguistic model description, linguistic control rules and identification modeling error into a single adaptive fuzzy controller is developed for a nonlinear system. It ensures the system output tracks the desired reference value and excites the plant sufficiently for accelerating the parameter estimation process so that the control performances are greatly improved. Using the Lyapunov synthesis approach, proposed controller is analyzed and simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.

A model reference adaptive control(MRAC) theory is very useful for controlling a plant of which the parameters are unknown or vary during operation usint only input-output signal of plant. In this study, 2' nd order discreter time MRAC controller is designed for an electrohydraulic position control system which is represented with nonlinear mathematical model and the least square method is adopted for the para-meter adjustment law. This control algorthm is applied to the position control of electrohydraulic servosystem through computer simulation and the effect of the change of load, sampling time upon the performance following reference model and upon the performance of estimating plant parameters are examined.
In this paper a new adaptive control algorithm is derived, with the unknown manipulator and payload parameters being estimated online. In practice, we may simplify the algorithm by not explicity estimating all unknown parameters. Further, the controller must be robust to residual time-varying disturbance, such as striction or torque ripple. Also, the reference model is a simple douple integrator and the acceleration input for robot manipulator consists of a proportion and derivative controller for trajectory tracking purposes. The validity of this control is confirmed in simulation where two-link robot manipulator shows the robust performances in spite of the existing nonlinear interaction and unknown parametrictings

In this paper, an adaptive model predictive controller for nodinear processes using fuzzy model is proposed. Adaptive structure is implemented by recursive fuzzy modeling. The model and control law can be obtained the same as GPC, because the consequent parts of the fuzzy model comprise linear equations of input and output variables. The proposed Adaptive fuzzy model predictive controller (AFMPC) controls nonlinear process well due to the intrinsic nonlinearity of the fuzzy model. When AFMPC's output is variation in the process control input, it maintains zero steady-state offset for a constant reference input and has superior performance. The properties and performance of the proposed control scheme were examined with nonlinear plant by simulation.

TDC(Time Delay Control) deals with the time-varying system parameters, unknown dynamics and unexpected disturbances using time delay. TDC can be divided into two separate parts: an auxiliary controller and a servo controller. The two controllers can be designed independently. The auxiliary controller is used to reduce sensitivity to parameter variations, nonlinear effects, and other disturbances. The servo controller is to reduce the error between the desired command and output. We propose the model-following time delay controller with modified error feedback controller. This was applied to follow the desired reference model for the uncertain time-varying overhead crane. The model generates the damped-out swinging motion trajectory to suppress the swinging motion caused by the acceleration and the deceleration of crane transportation. The control performance was evaluated through simulations. The theoretical results indicate that this control method shows excellent performance to an overhead crane with the uncertain time-varying parameters.

This paper discusses a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy controller design problem for a phugoid model-based multi-agent system. The error between the state of a phugoid model and a reference is defined to construct a multi-agent system model. A T-S fuzzy model of the multi-agent system is built by introducing a nonlinear controller. A fuzzy controller is then designed to stabilize the T-S fuzzy model, where the synthesis condition is represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities.

A design and DSP-based implementation of robust nonlinear speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) under the unknown parameter variations and speed measurement error is presented. The model reference adaptive system(MRAS) based adaptation mechanisms for the estimation of slowly varying parameters are derived using the MIT rule. For the disturbances or quickly varying parameters, a quasilinearized and decoupled model which includes the influence of parameter variations and speed measurement error on the nonlinear speed control of a PMSM is derived. Based on this model, a boundary layer integral sliding mode controller to improve the robustness and performance of the nonlinear speed control of a PMSM is designed and compared with the conventional controller which employs Proportional plus Derivative(PD) control. To show the validity of the proposed scheme, simulations and DSP-based experimental works are carried out and compared with the conventional control scheme.

In this paper, a nonlinear controller based on adaptive sliding-mode method which has a sliding surface vector including new boundizing function is proposed and applied to a two-wheeled welding mobile robot (WMR). This controller makes the welding point of WMR achieve tracking a reference point which is moving on a smooth curved welding path with a desired constant velocity. The mobile robot is considered in view of a kinematic model and a dynamic model in Cartesian coordinates. The proposed controller can overcome uncertainties and external disturbances by adaptive sliding-mode technique. To design the controller, the tracking error vector is defined, and then the sliding surface vector including new boundizing function and the adaptation laws are chosen to guarantee that the error vector converges to zero asymptotically. The stability of the dynamic system is shown through the Lyapunov method. In addition, a simple way of measuring the errors by potentiometers is introduced. The simulations and experimental results are shown to prove the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
