  • As the necessity of such mobile wireless terminals as PDAs or Cellular phones drastically increases, the terminals play important role in various business areas. In this paper, a bidding system in mobile wireless environments is constructed. However, with many mobile wireless terminals modifying at the same time their (duplicated) bidding values for a given data item, data coherency for the data item becomes essential. Therefore, in this paper, a bidding system using SyncML data synchronization mechanism is proposed and constructed. SyncML is one of data synchronization mechanisms proposed by the SyncML Initiative, a consortium of mobile wireless mobile technology leaders for universal data synchronization. The bidding system is implemented and tested in LINUX, C++, and PocketPC 2000 emulator programming environments.

  • By providing ubiquitous Internet connectivity, wireless networks offer more convenient ways for users to surf the Internet. However, wireless networks encounter more technological challenges than wired networks, such as bandwidth, security problems, and handoff latency. Thus, this paper proposes new technologies to solve these problems. First, a Security Access Gateway (SAG) is proposed to solve the security issue. Originally, mobile terminals were unable to process high security calculations because of their low calculating power. SAG not only offers high calculating power to encrypt the encryption demand of SAG's domain, but also helps mobile terminals to establish a multiple safety tunnel to maintain a secure domain. Second, Robust Header Compression (RoHC) technology is adopted to increase the utilization of bandwidth. Instead of Access Point (AP), Access Gateway (AG) is used to deal with the packet header compression and de-compression from the wireless end. AG's high calculating power is able to reduce the load on AP. In the original architecture, AP has to deal with a large number of demands by header compression/de-compression from mobile terminals. Eventually, wireless networks must offer users "Mobility" and "Roaming". For wireless networks to achieve "Mobility" and "Roaming," we can use Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) technology. Nevertheless, such technology might cause latency. Furthermore, how the security tunnel and header compression established before the handoff can be used by mobile terminals handoff will be another great challenge. Thus, this paper proposes to solve the problem by using Early Binding Updates (EBU) and Security Access Gateway (SAG) to offer a complete mechanism with low latency, low handoff mechanism calculation, and high security.

  • Wireless LAN is a rather mature communication technology that connects mobile terminals. A typical wireless LAN system is composed of one AP and more than one terminals, which is called a BSS. Terminals near to an AP can receive high rate data but terminals far from an AP may not receive data with guaranteed high speed rate because received signal strength is weakened. This paper proposes a method to allow high speed data transmission by grouping terminals and using part of wireless terminals as repeaters. We compare and analyze proposed grouping algorithms based on Depth First Search and Breadth First Search via simulations. A grouping algorithm based on Breadth First Search is shown to be more effective in term of efficiency and coverage.

  • As the wireless network technologies and the capability of the mobile terminals are evolving, advanced peer to peer applications for mobile users are attracting interests. In this paper, we propose the mobile P2P communication platform(MPCP) which provides transparency to the wireless network technologies and solutions to the limited resources of the mobile terminals. MPCP classifies the connection into two levels: a virtual channel and a session. A virtual channel is the network layer connection between the terminals whereas a session is the application layer connection. MPCP classifies the sessions into four types and applies different scheduling priority and data processing policies such as segmentation and reassembly. It selects proper wireless network technologies depending on the distance between the communication endpoints. To acquire dynamically changed access address, we harness the Session Initiation Protocol. We implemented MPCP on embedded Linux simulator and utilized the implementation in mobile P2P service development. For the quantitative analysis, we compared the performance of MPCP with that of ftp. Regardless of the number of simultaneous sessions, MPCP maintains the relative performance.

  • With the rapid growth of recent wireless mobile computing application technology and handheld mobile terminal device development technology, one of the big issue in these fields is to design online games in wireless mobile ad hoc network environment. Online games in mobile computing environment have lots of constraints for developing online games because mobile terminals have many limitations such as low performance of processor, limited memory space, small bandwidth of wireless communication, and confined life of battery power. Therefore, most of mobile games are restrictive in the function of online and multi-play up to date. In this paper, the online MMORPG game, capable of multi-play with many other mobile users using mobile terminals in wireless mobile computing environment, is designed and implemented. Proposed mobile online game uses bluetooth to construct temporary wireless mobile ad hoc network with other mobile clients, and designed to carry out online MMORPG game with these clients. It also supports multi-play among them.

  • In this paper, we propose the enhanced CSMA/CA MAC protocol fir mobile multi-hop wireless Ad-hoc networks. In the conventional wireless Ad-hoc network such as WLAN using CSMA/CA MAC protocol, communications between terminals that fn connected within multi-hop node may degrade the transmission efficiencies as increasing the multi-hop nodes because of RTS-CTS-DATA-ACK message exchange between terminals. In this raper, we apply the ACK/RTS control message into multi-hop transmission between terminals for wireless ad-hoc networks and improve the data traffic transmission efficiencies compared with conventional CSMA/CA MAC protocol used in WLAN.

  • We propose a mobile point-of-sale system, which consists of only mobile information terminals and personal computers. The proposed system provides most of functionalities related with resource planning, adminstration and management, provided by medium-scale or large-scale POS systems, with additional functionalities, such as automatic information gathering and management through mobile interconnection, while eliminating the necessity of additional special-purpose devices, such as bar-code systems. The proposed system transmits order information through wireless and wired communication lines, thus allowing real-time sharing of order information among diverse information devices, such as mobile order receiving terminals, main server within stores, monitors and printers located in production lines. Also, the system is able to transfer such detail information produced within stores in real-time to the enterprise-level accounting, sales, logistics, personnel management system, which facilitate enterprise-wide management and administrative decision-making. No additional programs are required for mobile terminals. Order information received by such terminals are entered into databases through web server of main server and that information is again transferred to main server and production line printers. The proposed system can handle all the point-of-sale information and can provide almost of the POS functionalities by simply utilizing wireless internet, personal computers, and mobile terminals without installing specific-purpose peripheral devices. The proposed system can be widely applied to the small-scale stores and will contribute in reducing construction and maintenance cost required for point-of-sale management.
