  • An energy of applications had consumed through the complexed inter-action with operating systems, run-time environments, compiler, and applications on various mobile devices. In these days, challenged researches are studying to reduce of energy consumptions that uses energy-oriented high-level and low-level compiler techniques on mobile devices. In this paper, we intented to reduce an energy consumption of Java mobile applications that applied a list instruction scheduling for energy dissipation from dalvik bytecode which extracted Android dex files. Through this works, we can construct the optimized power and energy environment on mobile devices with the limited power supply.

  • The current cellular communications are optimized for low mobility users, meaning that their performance is degraded at high speed. Therefore, passengers in a high-speed train experience very poor radio link quality due to the significantly large number of simultaneous handovers. In addition, wireless data traffic is expanding exponentially in trains, subways and buses due to the widespread use of smartphones and mobile devices. To solve the inherent problem of cellular communication networks and meet the growing traffic demand, this paper proposes the mobile hotspot network of a millimeter-wave communication system as a mobile wireless backhaul. This paper describes the physical layer design of uplink and downlink in the proposed system, and the performances of uplink and downlink are evaluated under Rician fading channel conditions. The implemented baseband prototype of the proposed millimeter-wave communication modem is presented. This system can provide a Gbps data rate service in high-speed trains carrying hundreds of wireless Internet users.

This new society of knowledge and information will introduce many new types of services based on valuable knowlwdge and information. Among many new services in this mobile computing environment, the real-time worldwide korean information networking service using the Korean characters invented by the mobile computing environment, the real-time worldwide Korean information networking service using the Koean characters invented by the King Sejong is possible ubiquitously with wired and mobile Internet. We studied the user interface with Korean characters in the mobile computing environment, and introduce the useful results with new metrics of performance analysis after real implementation for real-time Korean information networking using Korean domain names.

  • In this paper, the method to make lossless image compression that holds considerable part of total volume of mobile game has been proposed. To increase the compression rate, we compress the image by Deflate algorithm defined in RFC 1951 after reorganize it at preprocessing stage before conducting actual compression. At the stage of preprocessing, we obtained the size of a dictionary based on the information of image which is the feature of Dictionary-Based Coding, and increased the better compression rate than compressing in a general manner using in a way of restructuring image by pixel packing method and DPCM prediction technique. It has shown that the method increased 9.7% of compression rate compare with existing mobile image format, after conducting the test of compression rate applying the suggested compression method into various mobile games.

  • Sensors used in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) have mostly limited capacity which affects the performance of their applications. One of the data-gathering methods is to use mobile sinks to visit these sensors so that they can save their limited battery energies from forwarding data packages to static sinks. The main disadvantage of employing mobile sinks is the delay of data collection due to relative low speed of mobile sinks. Since sensors have very limited memory capacities, whenever a mobile sink is too late to visit a sensor, that sensor's memory would be full, which is called a 'memory overflow', and thus, needs to be purged, which causes loss of collected data. In this work, a method is proposed to generate mobile sink tours, such that the number of overflows and the amount of lost data are minimized. Moreover, the proposed method does not need either the sensor locations or sensor memory status in advance. Hence, the overhead stemmed from the information exchange of these requirements are avoided. The proposed method is compared with a previously published heuristic. The simulation experiment results show the success of the proposed method over the rival heuristic with respect to the considered metrics under various parameters.

  • With the rapid development of smart devices and mobile Internet, the video application plays an increasingly important role on mobile devices. Understanding user behavior patterns is critical for optimized operation of mobile live streaming systems. On the other hand, volume based billing models on cloud services make it easier for video service providers to scale their services as well as to reduce the waste from oversized service capacities. In this paper, the watching behaviors of a commercial mobile live streaming system are studied in a content-centric manner. Our analysis captures the intrinsic correlation existing between popularity and watching intensity of programs due to the synchronized watching behaviors with program schedule. The watching pattern is further used to estimate traffic volume generated by the program, which is useful on data volume capacity reservation and billing strategy selection in cloud services. The traffic range of programs is estimated based on a naive popularity prediction. In cross validation, the traffic ranges of around 94% of programs are successfully estimated. In high popularity programs (>20000 viewers), the overestimated traffic is less than 15% of real happened traffic when using upper bound to estimate program traffic.

  • Web Services allow a user to integrate applications from different platforms and languages. Since mobile applications often run on heterogeneous platforms and conditions, Web Service becomes a popular solution for integrating with server applications. However, because of its verbosity, XML based SOAP messaging gives the possible overhead to the less powerful mobile devices. Based on the mobile client's behavior that it usually exchanges messages with Web Service continuously in a session, we design the Handheld Flexible Representation architecture. Our proposed architecture consists of three main components: optimizing message representation by using a data format language (Simple_DFDL), streaming communication channel to reduce latency and the Context-store to store context information of a session as well as redundant parts of the messages. In this paper, we focus on the Context-store and describe the architecture with the Context-store for improving the performance of mobile Web Service messaging. We verify our approach by conducting various evaluations and investigate the performance and scalability of the proposed architecture. The empirical results show that we save 40% of transit time between a client and a service by reducing the message size. In contrast to solutions for a single problem such as the compression or binarization, our architecture addresses the problem at a system level. Thus, by using the Context-store, we expect reliable recovery from the fault condition and enhancing interoperability as well as improving the messaging performance.

  • The preservation of temporal dependencies among a group of processes that exchange continuous media at runtime is a key issue for emerging mobile distributed systems (MDS), such as monitoring of biosignals and interactive multiuser games. Although several works are oriented to satisfy temporal dependencies, most of them are not suitable for MDSs. In general, an MDS is characterized by the absence of global references (e.g. shared memory and wall clock), host mobility, limited processing and storage capabilities in mobile hosts, and limited bandwidth on wireless communication channels. This paper proposes an asymmetric synchronization protocol to be used at runtime in an MDS without using a common reference. One main aspect of our synchronization protocol is that it translates temporal constraints to causal dependencies of the continuous media data as seen by the mobile hosts. We simulate the protocol by considering a cellular network environment and by using MPEG-4 encoders. The simulation results show that our protocol is effective in reducing the synchronization error. In addition, the protocol is efficient in terms of processing and storage costs at the mobile devices, as well as in the overhead attached per message across the wired and wireless channels.

  • This paper is concerned with a routing protocol for cost-effective communications between mobile hosts on computer networks in which mobile hosts can move freely their physical positions. The proposed routing protocol consists of two protocols : one is called location registration protocol performing registration of the location information as the mobile host does move; the other one is called message transfer protocol which actually delivers a message to the destination mobile host. The detailed protocol's operational behavior and major characteristics are presented. And it is shown that our protocols are superior to previous ones, in terms of the communication cost(i.e, number of messages) required for routing a message, and are functionally improved ones.

  • Recently, there are several attempts to save temporal, spatial and paper resources through mobile teleconference. However, present application-based mobile solutions have limited access, and are occasionally not working because of its operating system dependency. In recent times, several researchers attempt to develop mobile teleconference systems that can operate in all operating systems. It is still required to install proprietary applications to sync screens in user device. In this paper, we propose a full duplex and real-time data mirroring technology based on hybrid web that allows syncing screens without application installation, and operates in all mobile devices.
