On the Starvation Period of CDF-Based Scheduling over Markov Time-Varying Channels

  • In this paper, we consider a cumulative distribution function (CDF)-based opportunistic scheduling for downlink transmission in a cellular network consisting of a base station and multiple mobile stations. We present a closed-form formula for the average starvation period of each mobile station (i.e., the length of the time interval between two successive scheduling points of a mobile station) over Markov time-varying channels. Based on our formula, we investigate the starvation period of the CDF-based scheduling for various system parameters.

  • An acoustic ranging system was applied for reckoning the location of an agricultural vehicle in the field. The system has a number of fixed stations and a mobile station such as an agricultural vehicle. The mobile station comprises a radio frequency modulator-demodulator (RF MODEM), a buzzer, and a personal computer. The fixed station comprises an (RF MODEM), a microphone, an amplifier for the microphone, and a personal computer with a soundboard.   • 이동 통신은 대기를 전달매체로 하고 이동단말기를 사용하기 때문에 가로채기나 불법사용과 같은 공격에 취약하다. 이를 극복하기 위해, 이동 통신 환경에서 이동단말기와 기지국 사이에 안전한 통신을 제공하기 위한 많은 프로토콜들이 제안되어왔다. 그러나 이동단말기의 부족한 계산능력과 전력량 때문에 공개키를 이용한 프로토콜들은 많은 장점에도 불구하고 충분히 활용되지 못했다. 본 논문에서는 이동 통신 환경에서 기지국과 이동단말기 사이의 상호인증 및 세션키 공유 프로토콜들의 성능을 향상시킬 수 있는 기법을 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 기법은 이동단말기의 비밀 정보를 기지국에게 드러나게 하지 않으면서 많은 계산을 기지국으로 하여금 대신 수행하도록 하는 것이다. 제안된 기법은 기존의 프로토콜들을 최대 5배까지 성능을 향상시키며 해당하는 만큼 이동단말기의 전력량 소모를 감소시킬 수있다.Abstract Mobile communication is more vulnerable to security attacks such as interception and unauthorized access than fixed network communication. To overcome these problems, many protocols have been proposed to provide a secure channel between a mobile station and a base station. However, these public-key based protocols have not been fully utilized due to the poor computing power and small battery capacity of mobile stations. In this paper, we propose techniques for accelerating public-key based key establishment protocols between a mobile station and a base station. The proposed techniques enable a mobile station to borrow computing power from a base station without revealing its secret information. The proposed schemes accelerate the previous protocols up to five times and reduce the amount of power consumption of mobile stations.

국내 차세대이동통신 사업의 투자비 분석 (An Investment Cost Analysis of the IMT-2000 Mobile Communications Industry)

  • In this paper, we estimate the investment cost for the IMT-2000 services in Korea. The network elements for the IMT-2000 system are drawn out and the required number of base stations(Node-B) is predicted by using the coverage of the base station. With the assumption of the 2-generation mobile communications network configuration, the number of radio network controllers(RNC's) and core network facilities is estimated. We also setup different scenarios by considering the utilization of the transmission facilities between base stations, RNC's and switching systems, and then evaluate the investment cost for each scenario.

  • 특정 셀의 트래틱 증가와 같은 환경변화 요인으로 인해 셀이 신설되거나 기존 셀에서 추가로 채널을 필요로 할 경우, 새로이 채널을 할당해야 한다. 이때 기존에 할당된 채널들은 변경하지 않는 범위에서 추가로 채널을 할당하는 문제를 적응적인 채널할당문제라 정의한다. 본 논문에서는 흡필드 신경회로망을 적응적인 채널할당문제에 적용한다. 특히 기존 할당상황에 대한 정보를 이용하여 신경회로망에서 뉴런초기값을 결정하였다. 위의 모델을 예제에 적용시켜 본 결과 제약조건을 만족하는 채널할당을 찾을 수 있었다.

Delay Analysis for Dynamic Multiplexing Scheme in Connection-oriented Wireless Cellular Networks

  • We consider connection-oriented wireless cellular networks. These networks employ dedicated radio channels for the transmission of signaling information. A forward signaling channel is a common signaling channel assigned to carry the multiplexed stream of paging and channel allocation(virtual circuit allocation) packets from a base station to mobile stations. The delay levels experienced by paging and channel allocation packets have serious effect on the utilization level of the limited radio channel capacity. While a slotted mode operation is used to reduce the power consumption level at mobile stations, it may induce an increase in packet delay levels. In this paper, we thus consider a multiplexing scheme for paging and channel allocation packets under which slots are dynamically allocated for the paging packet transmission. For this dynamic scheme, we develop an analytical method for deriving the delay characteristics exhibited by paging and channel allocation packets, and investigate the effect of network parameters on the delay level by using this method.

  • IEEE802.16e-based OFDMA system called WiBro is being serviced commercially. In WiBro system, the base station sends downlink(DL)-MAP information to all mobile stations in each cell. The DL-MAP information is repeated six times, modulated by QPSK, and coded by Convolutional Turbo Coding(CTC) with 1/2 code rate [1],[2]. As the number of mobile stations increases, the DL-MAP size also increases. In this paper, We investigate methods of power allocation and interference cancelation to reduce overhead of the DL-MAP.

Data-Driven-Based Beam Selection for Hybrid Beamforming in Ultra-Dense Networks

  • In this paper, we propose a data-driven-based beam selection scheme for massive multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) systems in ultra-dense networks (UDN), which is capable of addressing the problem of high computational cost of conventional coordinated beamforming approaches. We consider highly dense small-cell scenarios with more small cells than mobile stations, in the millimetre-wave band. The analog beam selection for hybrid beamforming is a key issue in realizing millimetre-wave UDN MIMO systems. To reduce the computation complexity for the analog beam selection, in this paper, two deep neural network models are used. The channel samples, channel gains, and radio frequency beamforming vectors between the access points and mobile stations are collected at the central/cloud unit that is connected to all the small-cell access points, and are used to train the networks. The proposed machine-learning-based scheme provides an approach for the effective implementation of massive MIMO system in UDN environment.

Proportional Backoff Scheme for Data Services in TDMA-based Wireless Networks

  • This paper proposes a backoff control scheme for guaranteeing fair packet transmissions in TDMA wireless networks. In order to maximize the system performance, the number of packets transmitted in a frame should be kept at a proper level. In the proposed scheme, the base station calculates the packet transmission probability according to the offered loads and then broadcasts to all the mobile stations. Mobile stations attempt to transmit a packet with the received probability. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can offer better system throughput and delay performance than the conventional one regardless of the offered loads.

  • 본 논문에서는 채널 파라미터 추정을 위해 TD-SCDMA 기지국에 의해 방송되는 파일럿 신호를 이용하기 위한 FIR-Rake 수신기를 개발한다. FIR-Rake 수신기는 이동국에 대한 다중경로 간섭을 완화할 수 있다. 주파수 영역과 이산 영역에서의 해석, 그리고 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션은 제안 FIR-Rake 수신기가 전형적인 다중경로 페이딩 전파 환경에서 더 우수한 성능을 나타내는 것을 확인하였다.
