  • Untethered nodes in mobile ad-hoc networks strongly depend on the efficient use of their batteries. In this paper, we propose a new metric, the drain rate, to forecast the lifetime of nodes according to current traffic conditions. This metric is combined with the value of the remaining battery capacity to determine which nodes can be part of an active route. We describe new route selection mechanisms for MANET routing protocols, which we call the Minimum Drain Rate (MDR) and the Conditional Minimum Drain Rate (CMDR). MDR extends nodal battery life and the duration of paths, while CMDR also minimizes the total transmission power consumed per packet. Using the ns-2 simulator and the dynamic source routing (DSR) protocol, we compare MDR and CMDR against prior proposals for power-aware routing and show that using the drain rate for power-aware route selection offers superior performance results.

  • A high speed address recovery technique for AC plasma display Panel(PDP) is proposed. By removing the GND switching operation, the recovery speed can be increased and switching loss due to GND switch also becomes to be reduced. The proposed method is able to perform load-adaptive operation by controlling the voltage level of energy recovery capacitor, which prevents increasing inefficient power consumption caused by circuit loss during recovery operation. Thus, the technique shows the minimum address power consumption according to various displayed images, different from Prior methods operating in fixed mode regardless of images. Test results with 50" HD single-scan PDP(resolution = 1366$\times$768) show that less than 350ns of recovery time is successfully accomplished and about 54% of the maximum power consumption can be reduced, tracing minimum power consumption curves.

  • Among k independent normal populations with unknown means and a common unknown variance, the problem of detecting the population with the largest absolute value of mean is considered. This problem is formulated in a manner close to the framework of testing hypotheses, and the maximum error probability and the minimum power are considered. The power charts necessary to determine the sample size are provided. The problem of detecting the population with the smallest absolute value of mean is also considered.

  • An optimal design technique for minimum power loss in Kopp Ball Variator Continuously Variable Transmission is developed. Kinematic analysis of traction drive contact is performed to find spin for Kopp Ball Variator, and traction force and torque are calculated from mathem atical model of traction drive contact. The objective function for optimal design is total power loss including contact loss and bearing losses. The design contraints are derived from energy balance for input and output power. The formulated optimal design problem is implemented to a non-linear programming algorithm to find minimum power loss. The performance of optimal ly designed Kopp Ball Variator shows that efficiency is increased about 5-10% compare to a commercial unit.

PREDICTION OF SOUND RADIATION FROM TIRE TREADBAND VIBRATION

  • The noise generated from a treadband mechanism of a tire has been the subject of this research. In particular, the treadband has been treated as an infinite tensioned beam resting on an elastic foundation which includes damping. The main objective is here to predict the sound power generated from a system mentioned above by locating harmonic point forces representing the excitation of treadband at the contact patch. It is possible to predict the sound power radiated from this structure by wavenumber transformation techniques. To find out the minimum radiated sound power, All parameters were varied. Thus this model can be used as a tire design guide for selecting parameters which produce the minimum noise radiation.

  • As the development of semiconductor process technology continue to advance, ICs continue their trend toward higher performance low power system-on-chip (SOC). These circuits require on board multi power supply. In this paper, a 0.5 ㎛ dual date oxide CMOS Process technology for multi-power application is demonstrated. 5 V and 20 V devices fabricated by proposed process is measured. From 5 V devices using dual gate precess, we got almost the same characteristics as are obtained from standard 5 V devices. And the characteristics of the 20 V device demonstrates that 3 ㎛ devices with minimum gate length are available without reliability degradation. Electrical parameters in minimum 3 ㎛ devices are 520 ㎂/㎛ current density, 120 ㎷ DIBL, 24 V BV for NMOS and ,350 ㎂/㎛ current density, 180 ㎷ DIBL, 26 V BV for PMOS, respectively.

  • The optimum design parameters of several hydraulic systems are obtained using the complex method that is one kind of constrained direct search method. First, the parameters of lead-lag controller of the direct drive servovalve is designed using the complex method to satisfy the steady-state error requirement. Second, the optimum locating point of hydraulic cylinder Is determined to minimize the cylinder force in the operation range of rotational sluice gate. For the third application case, the optimum piston area of hydraulic cylinder is determined to minimize the man power to elevate the manually operated sluice gate.

  • Level control in the steam generator of a nuclear power plant is important process. But, the low power operation of nuclear power plant causes nonlinear characteristics and non minimum phase characteristics (swell and shrink), change of delay. So, we can't lead good results with conventional PID controller. Particularly, the design of controller with constraints is necessary. This paper introduces MPC(Model Predictive Control) with constraints and designs a good performance MPC controller in spite of the input constraints and nonlinear characteristics, non-minimum phase characteristics

ASSESSMENT OF THE SAFETY OF ULCHIN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT IN THE EVENT OF TSUNAMI USING PARAMETRIC STUDY

  • Previous evaluations of the safety of the Ulchin Nuclear Power Plant in the event of a tsunami have the shortcoming of uncertainty of the tsunami sources. To address this uncertainty, maximum and minimum wave heights at the intake of Ulchin NPP have been estimated through a parametric study, and then assessment of the safety margin for the intake has been carried out. From the simulation results for the Ulchin NPP site, it can be seen that the coefficient of eddy viscosity considerably affects wave height at the inside of the breakwater. In addition, assessment of the safety margin shows that almost all of the intake water pumps have a safety margin over 2 m, and Ulchin NPP site seems to be safe in the event of a tsunami according to this parametric study, although parts of the CWPs rarely have a margin for the minimum wave height.
