  • Techniques for approximating digitalcurves by polygonal lines are a valuable tool for image analysis and data compression. S. Shilien proposed a method for segmenting a digital curve into digital straight line segments digital straight line segments which are not satisfied with the structural properties, and have more than one break point by Shilien's method. Here, the structural representation of digital straight lines and digital staight line segments is described. The number of break points extracted by this method is less than that by S. • We propose a new method to extract valid lines from a visual image. Unsupervised clustering method is used to assign each line to any of the line groups according to its orientation. During the low-level image processing we use an adaptive threshold method to reduce human supervision and to automate the processing sequence. To reduce the misclassification rate and to suppress the superiors line support regions at the clustering stage, the adaptive threshold method is consistently applied. Performing principal component analysis on each line support region provides an efficient method of obtaining line equation. Finally we adopt the theory of robust statistics to guarantee the quality of each extracted line and to eliminate the lines of poor quality. We present the experimental results to verify our method. With the proposed method, one can extract the lines according to the internal orientation similarities and integrate the whole process into one adaptive procedure.

  • In Digital Terrain Model(DTM), more accurate data acquisition method is of importance. This paper has the purpose of accuracy analysis of progressive sampling method, one of data acquisition method. Especially, The following in accuracy analysis are compared and analyzed. -Comparison and analysis for position error between the digital contour lines using digital terrain model and the conventional contour lines using A-10 Plotter. -Analysis for height error of interpolation points according to application of progressive sampling method. For above numerical tests, Computer Program related to auto-carto of contour lines was made up. As a result of tests, threshold and sampling criterion have close of mutual relation to accuracy. Particularly, it was found that auto-carto of contour lines-threshold of 1.0 m and standard criterion-almost concurred in conventional contour lines.

  • In this paper, a method for computing the capacitance parameter for a multi-interconnection line in a multilayered dielectric region is presented. The number of interconnection lines and the number of dielectric layers are arbitrary, and the interconnection lines are finite cross section or infinite cross section. The surface of lines and dielectric interface are divided into subsection. The surface charge density of each subsection is a constant step-pulse function for each subsection. After the solution of surface charge density is effected by the method of moments, capacitance parameter is calculated.

  • This paper considers the sequencing of products in mixed model assembly lines. The sequence which minimizes overall utility work in car assembly lines reduce the cycle time, the number of utility workers, and the risk of conveyor stopping. The sequencing problem is solved using Tabu Search. Tabu Search is a heuristic method which can provide a near optimal solution in real time. Various examples are presented and experimental results are reported to demonstrate the efficiency of the technique.

  • We should extract lines and data which consist of the table in order to classify the table region and analyze its structure in document image. But it is difficult to extract lines and data exactly because the lines are cut and their lengths are changed, or characters or noises are merged to the table lines. These problems result from the error of image input device or image reduction. In this paper, we propose the better method of extracting lines and data for table region classification and structure analysis than the previous ones including commercial softwares. The prposed method extracts horizontal and vertical lines which consist of the table by the use of one dimensional median filter. This filter not only eliminates the noises which attach to the line and the lines which are orthogonal to the filtering direction, but also connects the cut line of which the gap is shorter than the length of the filter tap in the process of extracting lines to the filtering direction. Furthermore, texts attached to the line are separated in the process of extracting vertical lines. This is an example of ABSTRACT format.

  • Misidentification of cultured cell lines results in the generation of erroneous scientific data. Hence, it is very important to identify and eliminate cell lines with a different origin from that being claimed. Various methods, such as karyotyping and isozyme analysis, can be used to detect inter-species misidentification. However, these methods have proved of little value for identifying intra-species misidentification, and it will only be through the development and application of molecular biological approaches that this will become practical. Recently, the profiling of microsatellite variants has been validated as a means of detecting gene polymorphisms and has proved to be a simple and reliable method for identifying individual cell lines. Currently, the human cell lines provided by cell banks around the world are routinely authenticated by microsatellite polymorphism profiling. Unfortunately, this practice has not been widely adopted for mouse cells lines. Here we show that the profiling of microsatellite variants can be also applied to distinguish the commonly used mouse inbred strains and to determine the strain of origin of cultured cell lines. We found that approximately 4.2% of mouse cell lines have been misidentified; this is a similar rate of misidentification as detected in human cell lines. Although this approach cannot detect intra-strain misidentification, the profiling of microsatellite variants should be routinely carried out for all mouse cell lines to eliminate inter-strain misidentification.

  • This paper describes a new method for extracting characteristic impedance of transmission line using Substrate Integrated Artificial Dielectric (SIAD). The new procedure to calculate the characteristic impedance of SIAD transmission line is described with the proper equations and basic transmission line theory. The characteristic impedance is determined as an almost fixed value in the proposed method, while it fluctuates according to frequency in the previous method. As the result, the effective dielectric constant of SIAD transmission line is calculated as a fixed value rather than fluctuating one. In order to show the validity of the proposed method, SIAD microstrip lines are simulated and measured, and characteristic impedances and effective dielectric constant are calculated and compared to the previous method.

  • One of the non-photorealistic rendering method, a drawing technique which uses only fine curves and dashed line, is widely employed in an knots and post stamps printing. Engraving of the curves and lines are traditionally performed by human engravers which leads to low productivity in printing preparation. As an effort to improve productivity and quality, a drawing automation method which can easily produce a portrait composed of vector data for laser or chemical engraving is proposed. The method shows that it is possible to draw a portrait by controling the width and length of predefined fine lines according to the gray scales a the end points of each fine lines. A gradually controled weighting factor method is proposed in addition to the author previous works to prevent undesirable boundaries in an identical texture region. User interface functions of a commercial CAD system are heavily employed to exploit the presented method.

  • A new approach for the design of extrusion die surface of arbitrarily shaped section is presented. In order to generate the extrusion die surface. an automatic surface construction method based on B-spline surface and scalar field theory is proposed. The isothermal lines and stream lines designed in the scalar field are introduced to find the control points which are used in constructing B-spline surfaces. Intersected points between the isothermal lines and stream lines are used to construct B-spline surfaces. The inlet and outlet profiles are precisely described with B-spline curves by using the centripetal method for uniform parameterization. The extrusion die surface is generated by using the cubic curve interpolation in the u- and v-directions. A quantitative measure for the control of surface is suggested by introducing the tangential vectors at the inlet and outlet sections. To verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method, automatic surface generation is carried out for extrusion dies of arbitrarily shaped sections.
