Transition-metal-oxide-incorporated hydrotalcites were prepared by hydrothermal reaction of their synthetic mixtures containing precursors of transition metal oxides and their properties of nitrogen dioxide adsorption was investigated. The dispersion of transition metal oxides on the hydrotalcites and the amount and the state of nitrogen dioxide adsorbed on them were examined by using XRD, SEM, XPS, nitrogen adsorption, a gravimetric adsorption system, FT-IR spectroscopy and temperature programmed desorption techniques. Transition metal oxides were mainly incorporated on their surface and the incorporation of iron and nickel oxides to the hydrotalcites increased their adsorption amounts of nitrogen dioxide. The dispersion of iron oxide on the hydrotalcites was effective in increasing the amount of nitrogen dioxide adsorption, while too much amount of iron oxide incorporation reduced the amount of nitrogen dioxide adsorption due to masking of surface basic sites by agglomerated iron oxide. Although the incorporation of iron oxide to the hydrotalcites lowered the adsorption strength of nitrogen dioxide, the incorporation of it with a proper amount enhanced the amount of nitrogen dioxide adsorption and the stability against the hydrothermal treatment.

In this study, we investigated the dispersion characteristics of guided waves in thin films. Dispersion curves are essential for understanding not only the behavior of ultrasonic waves, but also the mechanical properties of thin films. Matrix techniques are presented for modeling ultrasonic waves in multilayered structures before being used to calculate the dispersion curves for Al-steel and Al-composite specimens. When compared with the dispersion curves obtained using the commercial program (Disperse), the dispersion curves generated from the transfer matrix method show its validity. These developed methods are used to obtain dispersion curves for Al thin films deposited on a Si substrate. The resulting dispersion curves enable observation of both dispersive and non-dispersive behavior for the guided waves, depending on the thickness of the thin films.
Recently, transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) monolayers have been the subject of research exploring the physical phenomenon generated by low dimensionality and high symmetry. One of the keys to understanding new physical observations is the electronic band structure of 2D TMDCs. Angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) is, to this point, the best technique for obtaining information on the electronic structure of 2D TMDCs. However, through ARPES research, obtaining the long-range well-ordered single crystal samples always proves a challenging and obstacle presenting issue, which has been limiting towards measuring the electronic band structures of samples. This is particularly true in general 2D TMDCs cases. Here, we introduce the approach, with a mathematical framework, to overcome such ARPES limitations by employing the high level of symmetry of 2D TMDCs. Their high symmetry enables measurement of the clear and sharp electronic band dispersion, which is dominated by the band dispersion of single-crystal TMDCs along the two high symmetry directions Γ-K and Γ-M. In addition, we present two important studies and observations for the direct measuring of the exciton binding energy and charge transfer of 2D TMDCs, both being established by the above novel approach.
We propose a simple model to elucidate the dispersion behavior of spiraling modes on silver nanowire by finding correspondence parameters and building a simple equivalent relationship with the planar insulator-metal-insulator geometry. The characteristics approximated for the proposed structure are compared with the results from an exact solution obtained by solving Maxwell's equation in cylindrical coordinates. The effective refractive index for our proposed equivalent model is in good agreement with that for the exact solution in the 400-2000 nm wavelength range. In particular, when the radius of the silver nanowire is 100 nm, the calculated index shows typical improvements; the average percentage error for the real part of the effective refractive index is reduced to only 5% for the $0^{th}$ order mode (11.9% in previous results) and 1.5% for the $1^{st}$ order mode (24.8% in previous results) in the 400-800 nm wavelength range. This equivalent model approach is expected to provide further insight into understanding the important behavior of nanowire waveguides.
The effects of various manufacturing conditions on the characteristics of metal particle tape using ultra-fine metal powder were investigated. As functions of kneading conditions and milling solid contents. coating thickness, orientation, calender and curing conditions. various properties of the tapes were studied. By the consideration of physical and eletromagnetic properties of the tapes, optimum process conditions were determined. As a result of above investigations, we concluded that manufacturing processes were very important factor in addition to dispersion behavior of particles for achieving maximum properties of the metal particle tape.
Ultra-thin polymer films containing cobalt(II) meso-tetraphenylporphyrin(CoTPP) have been prepared by vacuum codeposition of the metal complex and trans-2-butene as an organic monomer using an inductively coupled RF glow discharge operating at 7-9 Watts. The polymer films were characterized by sorption measurements. Sorption data obtained for polymer films containing CoTPP indicate that the CoTPP molecules are capable of reversibly binding oxygen molecules. It was found that the adjacent CoTPP molecules in the aggregated metal complex phase could irreversibly share the oxygen molecules. A dispersion of the metal complex molecules in the polymer matrix was made to maintain the reversible reactivity of the metal complex molecules with oxygen in the polymer films via vacuum evaporation process. The Henry mode solubility constant, the Langmuir mode capacity constant, the amount of binding oxygen, and the dissociation equilibrium in the dual mode sorption theory were discussed.
Eigenvalue distributions for a periodic metal-insulator-metal waveguide, classified into the point spectrum and the discretized continuous spectrum (DCS), are investigated as functions of frequencies, gap widths, and periods. Muller's method is suggested for solving exact eigenvalues, and we propose the scheme for finding proper initial values in the Muller's method by considering only ${\Re}e({\varepsilon}_r)$ in the dispersion equation. We then find that anti-crossing behavior, repulsive effect between the point spectrum and the DCS, becomes stronger when the real parts of the roots in the point spectrum have smaller values. Finally, we examine the transmittances of a single subwavelength slit for real metals using the mode matching technique. The transmittances in real metals similarly follow those of the perfect electric conductor (PEC) at low frequencies, while the patterns at higher frequencies begin to differ from the PEC.
The laboratory column experiments were used to transport of metal elements by infiltration-related dispersion and/or diffusion in mine tailing of the Guryong gold mine. The mine tailing shows the neutral pH (for a pore water) and contains quartz, chlorite, pyrite and calcite. Both a non-reactive solute ($Cl^-$ of 100 mg $L^{-1}$) and a reactive solute (1N HCl), were injected continuously through columns. The breakthrough curve in the non-reactive experiment reached at a maximum under 1.5 pore volumes (PV). The longitudinal dispersion (0.607 cm) and hydrodynamic dispersion coefficient ($1.96{\times}10^{-7}cm^{2}sec^{-1}$) were calculated by the slope. In the reactive experiment, the plateau curve was appeared in the pH values of 5.3, 4.5 and 1.7. The releases of metal elements such as Fe, Mn, Al, Cu, Zn, Pb, and Cd were observed to be related to the pH buffering. High concentrations of Mn, Cd and Zn were observed at the first pH plateau (4 PV and pH 5.3), whereas Fe, Cu, Al and Pb were released as the pH decreased to 4.0 or less. The resulting order of metals mobility, based on the effluent water, is Mn=Cd>Zn>Cu>Fe>Al>Pb.
In this study, the effect of physical properties of $Pt/TiO_2$ on $NH_3$-selective catalytic oxidation (SCO) reaction at $200{\sim}350^{\circ}C$ was investigated. CO-chemisoption and BET analysis were carried out to verify physical properties of $Pt/TiO_2$. By characterizing physical properties of $Pt/TiO_2$ with respect to the Pt loading, the metal dispersion degree decreased as a function of the Pt loading amount. Also, the catalyst having a higher metal dispersion showed an excellent conversion efficiency of $NH_3$ to $N_2$. Since the specific surface area of the support affects the metal dispersion, $Pt/TiO_2$ catalysts were prepared using $TiO_2$ with different physical properties. As a result, it was confirmed that the catalyst having a wide specific surface area exhibited a excellent conversion of $NH_3$ to $N_2$.
