  • In this study, the effects of a four-stage problem-solving strategy emphasizing planning and checking stages were investigated. Two high school classes (N=55) were randomly assigned to either treatment or control group, and taught about two topics, 'gas' and 'solution' for 8 class hours. Teacher used the four-stage problem-solving strategy emphasizing planning and checking stages in the treatment group, and used traditional lecture in the control group. Two-way ANCOVA results revealed that the test scores of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group in the problem-solving ability, especially in the subcategories of 'conceptual knowledge' and 'mathematical execution'. There was significant interaction between the instruction and the level of prior achievement in the 'satisfaction' of the learning motivation. The lower level students in the control group were more satisfied with chemistry class than those in the treatment group. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the scores of the awareness of metacognition. Educational implications are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare student-student verbal interaction from two type's experiments; problem-solving and task-solving. For this study, five 3rd grade middle school students were selected and their verbal interactions recorded via voice and video; and later transcribed. The student-student verbal interactions were classified as questions, explanations, thoughts, or metacognition fields, which were separated into deep versus surface learning approaches. For the problem-solving experiment, findings revealed that the number of verbal interactions is more than doubled and in particular, the number of verbal interactions using deep-approach is more than quadrupled from the point of problem-recognition to problem-solution. As for the task-solving experiment, findings showed that verbal interactions remained evenly distributed throughout the entire experiment. Finally, it was also discovered that students relied upon a more deep learning approach during the problem-solving experiment than the task-solving experiment.

  • Intuition in the mathematical problem solving has been stressed the importance with the logic because intuition is the cognition that give significant clue or idea to problem solving. Fischbein classified intuition by the origin; primary intuition and secondary intuition And he said the role of the personal experience and school education. Through these precedent research, we can understand the social influence. This study attempt to investigate social intuition model of Haidt, moral psychologist that has surfaced social property of intuition in terms of the mathematical problem solving. The major suggestions in problem solving and the education of intuition are followed. First, I can find the social property of intuition in the mathematical problem solving. Second, It is possible to make the mathematical problem solving model by transforming the social intuitionist model. Third, the role of teacher is important to give the meaningful experience for intuition to their students. Fourth, for reducing the errors caused by the coerciveness and globality of intuition, we need the education of checking their own intuition. In other words, we need intuition education emphasized on metacognition.

  • Although testing is usually done for purposes of assessment, previous research over the past 100 years indicates that testing is an effective tool for learning. Testing or retrieval practice of previously studied materials can enhance learning of that previously studied information and/or learning of subsequently presented new information. The former is referred to as the backward effect of testing whereas the latter is referred to as the forward effect of testing. Thus far, however, the literature has not isolated these two effects and most previous research focused on the backward effect. Only recent laboratory research provided evidence that there is a forward effect of testing. The present study provides a review of research on this forward and backward effect of testing, focusing on testing procedures of the effects, empirical evidence, current theoretical explanations, and issues to resolve in order to make use of testing effect in educational settings. The reviews clearly show that testing enhances memory of previously learned information by working as memory modifier and learning of newly presented information by affecting learners' metacognition, implying that testing is not just an assessment of learning, but also an effective tool for learning.

  • Using self-regulation learning strategies that can cultivate the creative and critical thinking required in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it was applied to the exploration experimental class of the section 'quantitative relationship in chemical reactions' in high school chemistry and the effects on academic performance and scientific attitudes were analyzed. In case of academic achievement, although there was no meaningful difference between the two groups in the pre-test, the average value of the experimental group was significantly higher in the post-test. In the case of scientific attitudes, the difference in average points between the two groups was the greatest in readiness and curiosity. In the post-test of the experimental group, academic achievement showed the highest correlation with meta-cognition and scientific attitude with behavioral regulation, respectively. Considering the effectiveness of metacognition and scientific attitudes, self-regulation learning strategies are the most suitable teaching-learning forms for creativity and personality education in this era.

  • In this paper, we propose the development and application of a software education program for underachievers. The software education program for underachieving students was developed in consideration of the characteristics of learner's suffering from underachievement and the educational effects of software education, and is meaningful in that it proposes a plan to improve the learning gap in distance learning. Learners can acquire digital literacy and learning skills by solving structured tasks in the form of courseware, intelligent tutoring, debugging, and artificial intelligence learning models in educational programs. Based on the effects of software education, such as enhancing logical thinking ability and problem solving ability, this program provides opportunities to solve fusion tasks to underachievers. Based on this, it is expected that it can have a positive effect on the overall academic work.

  • Purpose: This study used an exploratory sequential approach (mixed methods) design to explore essential meaning through comparing and analyzing the experiences of nursing students in virtual simulation practice and high fidelity simulation practice education in parallel. Methods: The study participants were 20 nursing students, and data were collected through focus group meetings from July 17 to August 5, 2020, and via online quantitative data from November 10 to November 15, 2020. The qualitative data were analyzed using Giorgi's phenomenological method, and the quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test analysis of variance and Spearman's ρ correlation. Results: The comparison between the two simulation training experiences was shown in five contextual structures, as follows: (1) reflection of the clinical field, (2) thinking theorem vs. thinking expansion, (3) individual-centered learning vs. team-centered learning, (4) attitudes toward participating in practical training, (5) metacognition of personal competency as a prospective nurse, and (6) revisiting the method of practice training. There was a positive correlation between satisfaction with the practice and the clinical judgment ability of high fidelity simulation, which was statistically significant (r=.47, p=.036). Conclusion: Comparing the experiences between virtual simulation practice training and high fidelity simulation practice training, which has increased in demand due to the Coronavirus Disease-2019 pandemic, is meaningful as it provides practical data for introspection and reflection on in-campus clinical education.

  • Purpose : This systematic review examined evidence published 2000-2021 for occupational therapy interventions for adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (adult ADHD). Methods : In order to find out the studies on the effect occupational therapy intervention on individuals with adult ADHD, studies published from 2000 to February 2022 were searched on Google Academic Search. The keywords used were "adult ADHD" AND "Occupational therapy". A total of 785 studies were searched, and from these, 3 studies were selected based on the application of the selection and exclusion criteria. The included studies comprised of 1 Quasi-experimental design study(one group pre-post test) and 2 randomized controlled trials design studies. The included studies were analyzed in PICO(patients, intervention, comparison, outcomes). Results : As a result of analysing the subjects of the included studies, subjects diagnosed with adult ADHD or classified as high-risk group in Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale test, the number of subjects was 97, and the average age was about 33 years old. Occupational therapy intervention methods for adult ADHD include Tailored Intervention, Computerized Cognitive Training, and Cognitive-Functional Intervention. The Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale was the most used to check the symptoms of ADHD, and the COPM was used the most to measure the effects of occupational therapy interventions. The dependent variables of occupational therapy intervention were occupational performance, quality of life, executive function (behavioral regulation, metacognition), self-regulation function, stress management, and sustained attention. The effect of the intervention was statistically significant in 78.5% of the total. Conclusion : It is expected that the results of this study can be used as basic data for evidence-based practice for occupational therapists to apply adult ADHD interventions. In the field of occupational therapy in Korea, research on various interventions that can improve the occupational performance of adults ADHD should be conducted.
