The Anthropocene and the Humanities - Future of the Earth and the Humanities Envisioned by the Ecofeminism of Carolyn Merchant's (인류세와 인문학 -캐롤린 머천트의 생태 페미니즘이 조망하는 지구와 인문학의 미래)

  • This paper explores the academic topography of the discourses on the anthropocene to delve into how the humanities can insightfully respond to the ecological crisis of the Earth through the lens of environmental humanities proposed in a 2020 book, The Anthropocene and the Humanities: From Climate Changes to a New Age of Sustainability by a scientific philosopher, Carolyn Merchant. By publishing her latest book, The Anthropocene and the Humanities, Merchant, a pioneering scholar of ecofeminism, has recently started into inquiring into the discourses on the anthropocene, meaning a geological age led by anthropos/humans. In one of her most distinguished works of 1980, The Death of Nature: Women, Ecology, and the Scientific Revolution, Merchant has revealed that the modern Western perception of nature, often identified with women, have been figuratively killing nature as well as women. Arguing in The Anthropocene and the Humanities that the anthropocene has been enacting a "second death of nature," which has been practically and technially killing nature, Merchant calls for the insight of the environmental humanities that help us to build a "sustainable livelihood" based on the "partnership" between human and nonhuman nature. This paper contemplates on what humanities can do in the era of anthropocenic planetarian crisis with the environmental humanistic alternatives in ecofeminist perspective to overcome the anthropocenic crisis aggravated by the covid-19 occurred at the point when the climate change was viscerally felt by the humans in the twenty first century.

  • When design the crew's living quarter, it is very important to consider the comfort for crew as well as its function. In this paper, design concepts of crew's living quarter are investigated based upon the questionnaire survey and the respondents who have been experienced going on board . Also, some improvements for interior design of the merchant ship are presented.

The Supply-Demand Situation of Officers for Korean flag ocean-going merchant ship (국적외항상선의 해기사 수급 현황)

  • Foreign maritime officers were employed in Korean flag ocean-going merchant ships since the year of 2005. And the number of foreign maritime officers in Korean ship has been rapidly increased, and it approaches 700 recently. The shortage of Korean maritime officers was mainly claimed the reason of employing foreign maritime officers in Korean flag ship. In this paper, we surveyed the number of newly supplied officers from every Korean training institution, the number of officers on-board, on-leave, on-job hunting, and the number of officers leaving their job every year. And then we analysed supply-demand situation of Korean maritime officers for Korean flag ocean-going ships for reasonable decision-making in relation with employing foreign maritime officers.

Analyses of Free Amino Acids in Different Parts of Bean Sprouts by Different Cooking Methods and from Different Merchants

  • This study was performed to quantitatively analyze free amino acids in the bean sprouts of three different merchants by the parts and the cooking methods in order to evaluate the nutritional and sensory values of bean sprouts. Three merchant bean sprouts were analyzed from total, cotyledon and hypocotyls. Aspartic acid was the most common acid isolated from bean sprouts from all three merchants and was found more in the hypocotyls than the cotyledon. On the other hand, arginine, the second most common amino acid, was found more in the cotyledon than the hypocotyls while valine, the third or fourth most common amino acid in total bean sprout, occurred in a greater amount in hypocotyls than in cotyledons. After cooking, was the most concentrated amino acid in the liquid portion of both boiled bean sprouts and bean sprout soup was glutamic acid. Total bean sprouts from merchant C showed significantly higher contents of the most abundant amino acids, such as aspartic acid, arginine, alanine, serine, glutamic acid, isoleucine, leucine and tyrosine (p<0.05). After cooking, bean sprouts from merchant B showed less of a decrease in amino acid content in the solid parts than the products from merchants A and C. In conclusion, aspartic acid was the major amino acid in bean sprouts, regardless of the source, but after cooking, glutamic acid became the most abundant amino acid in the liquid part. Additionally, the pattern of release of the amino acids from the solid beans to the liquid portion during cooking was different with each merchant.

  • A huge rent rise has forced the number of merchants out of their workplace. it has required to review the duration of business, considering recognition about social, economic, cultural characteristic of merchant. this research has indicated influence factors about the duration of business, divided into less than 5 years and more than 5 years on the basis of operation period focused on historical and cultural street of Jongno-gu. The research results, new merchants(less than 5 years) has emerged in order of important factors : monthly sales, monthly rent, franchise, store premium, media public relations. Existing merchants(more than 5 years) has emerged in order of important factors : monthly rent, monthly sales, merchant community, store premium, floating population. Therefore, this research proposes the following implications. Firstly, new measures must be needed to protect merchants and legal regulations about sharp monthly rent. Secondly, when entering the franchises, local government must review business standards with reference to the type and scale.

  • Purpose: Recently because goggle and sunglasses is industrial products, unprofessional is selling in store what is not optical store. Due to layman's sale, check of frames or lens, the quality, curve, A/S, is impossible. Therefore layman's sale threated national eye-health. So we investigated in order to know them, merchant of goggle and sunglasses except for optician, about "how many they have optical knowledge?" and "What can they give a service us?" Methods: Regardless age, we get a survey of 208 person who purchased goggle and sunglasses in a store that it is not optical store and 100 of goggle and sunglasses except for optician. Results: Most merchant who haven it knowledge about glasses sells goggle or sunglasses. Even though merchant has knowledge about glasses, It was very littles, now. Conclusions: Optician who have expert knowledge need method that it was very littles. So goggle and sunglasses that it is registered industrial products need method to transform into health instrument.

  • In this study, We investigated the correlation between the education service quality for small business in the merchant college, and student satisfaction and behavioral intention. For this purpose, a factor relationship between the education service quality, and student satisfaction and behavioral intention was examined focusing on the existing literature and previous studies. Also, a survey was conducted for a total of 450 traditional market merchants in metropolitan areas who have completed education from the merchant college for analysis. The result of this study are as follows. First, The relationship between educational service quality and behavioral intention, and student satisfaction except tangibles had significant impacts, Second, student satisfaction was shown to have a positive mediating effect on the relationship between educational service quality and behavioral intention.

  • A review of the related literature indicates that consumers' risk perceptions are largely affected by product involvement. This study investigates the impact of product involvement on required trust level and the online merchant choice. We developed a conceptual model that depicts the nomological relationships among product involvement, required trust level, and the online merchant choice, and formulated three hypotheses based on the conceptual model. An empirical study designed to accomplish the research objectives has been conducted using a questionnaire survey with 230 students in a university in Korea. The findings indicated that high-involvement products have higher trust level as required by consumers than low-involvement products, that consumers buying high-involvement products prefer digital storefronts, and that consumers buying low-involvement products prefer B2C e-marketplaces. The paper offers implications for academics as well as practitioners, based on the research results.
