형상기억합금을 이용한 지능형 고분자 복합재료의 설계 (Design of an Intelligent Polymer-Matrix-Composite Using Shape Memory Alloy)

  • Thermo-mechanical behaviors of polymer matrix composite(PMC) with continuous TiNi fiber are studied using theoretical analysis with 1-D analytical model and numerical analysis with 2-D multi-fiber finite element(FE) model. It is found that both compressive stress in matrix and tensile stress in TiNi fiber are the source of strengthening mechanisms and thermo-mechanical coupling. Thermal expansion of continuous TiNi fiber reinforced PMC has been compared with various mechanical behaviors as a function of fiber volume fraction, degree of pre-strain and modulus ratio between TiNi fiber and polymer matrix. Based on the concept of so-called shape memory composite(SMC) with a permanent shape memory effect, the critical modulus ratio is determined to obtain a smart composite with no or minimum thermal deformation. The critical modulus ratio should be a major factor for design and manufacturing of SMC.

  • The purpose of this review is to determine oriental concept of intelligence and memory, and to minimize adverse effect during treatment of brain disease by western medicine. Intelligence is developed by interaction between genetic factor ane environmental factor in Western medicine, Wherease mental function is difined by 'Chilsin' or 'Ohsin', and brain which control intelligence and memory is define by part of heart in oriental medicine The conception that mind and body are sameone may show possibility of intelligence and memory enhancement, and it may be usefule to clinical application.

  • Language is one aspect of cognition, along with attention and concentration, learning and memory, visuospatial abilities, and executive function. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of language intervention by cognitive approach on language expressive performance in a patient with conduction aphasia. This study used several tasks such as Attention and concentration task, visual memory tasks, memory tasks, categorization, divergent thinking, self-monitoring and evaluate thinking. The effects of treatment were evaluated by periodic probing of both trained and untrained familiar words in three tasks; picture naming, answering to questions and telling stories. The results showed improvements both in trained and untrained words. Therefore, we concluded that expressive language performance of this aphasic patient is amenable to this intervention, and that cognitive therapy approach can be useful.

정지환(定志丸)의 기억 및 인지기능 향상에 대한 효능 연구 (Therapeutic Potential of Jeongjihwan for the Prevention and Treatment of Amnesia)

  • This study was aimed to investigate the memory enhancing effect of Jeongjihwan against scopolamine-induced amnesia in C57BL/6 mice. To determine the effect of Jeongjihwan on the memory and cognitive function, we have injected scopolamine (1 mg/kg, i.p.) into C57BL/6 mice 30 min before beginning of behavior tests. We have conducted Y-maze, Morris water-maze, passive avoidance and fear conditioning tests to compare learning and memory functions. Scopolamine-induced behavior changes of memory impairment were significantly restored by oral administration of Jeongjihwan (100 or 200 mg/kg/day). To elucidate the molecular mechanism underlying the memory enhancing effect of Jeongjihwan, we have examined the antioxidant defense system and neurotrophic factors. Jeongjihwan treatment attenuated intracellular accumulation of reactive oxygen species and up-regulated mRNA and protein expression of antioxidant enzymes as assessed by RT-PCR and western blot analysis, respectively. Jeongjihwan also increased protein levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) compared with those in the scopolamine-treated group. Furthermore, as an upstream regulator, the activation of cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) via phosphorylation was assessed by Western blot analysis. Jeongjihwan elevated the phosphorylation of CREB (p-CREB), which seemed to be mediated partly by extracellular signal-regulated kinase1/2 (ERK1/2) and protein kinase B/Akt. These findings suggest that Jeongjihwan may have preventive and therapeutic potential in the management of amnesia.

  • Alzheimers disease (AD) is the most prevalent form of neurodegenerations associated with aging in the human population. This disease is characterized by the extracellular deposition of beta-amyloid (A ${\beta}$) peptide in cerebral plaques. The A ${\beta}$ peptide is derived from the ${\beta}$-amyloid precursor protein ( ${\beta}$APP). Photolytic processing of ${\beta}$APP by ${\beta}$-secretase(beta-site APP-cleaving enzyme, BASE) and ${\gamma}$-secretase generates the A ${\beta}$ peptide. Several lines of evidence support that A ${\beta}$-induced neuronal cell death is major mechanisms of development of AD. Accordingly, the ${\beta}$-and ${\gamma}$-secretase have been implicated to be excellent targets for the treatment of AD. We previously found that sesaminol glucosides have improving effect on memory functions through anti-oxidative mechanism. In this study, to elucidate possible other mechanism (inhibition of ${\beta}$-and ${\gamma}$-secretase) of sesaminol glucosides, we examined the improving effect of sesaminol glucosides in the scopolamine (1 mg/kg/mouse)-induced memory dysfunction using water maze test in the mice. Sesaminol glucosides (3.75, 7.5 mg/kg/6ml/day p.o., for 3 weeks) reversed the latency time, distance and velocity by scopolamine in dose dependent manner. Next, ${\beta}$-and ${\gamma}$-secretase activities were determined in different regions of brain. Sesaminol glucosides dose-dependently attenuated scopolamine-induced ${\beta}$-secretase activities in cortex and hippocampous and ${\gamma}$-secretase in cortex. This study therefore suggests that sesaminol glucosides may be a useful agent for prevention of the development or progression of AD, and its inhibitory effect on secretase may play a role in the improving action of sesaminol glucosides on memory function.

  • The most effective material in the shape memory alloy(SMA) is the TiNi alloy, because its shape recovery characteristics are very excellent. We molded the composite material with shape memory function. The fiber of it is $Ti_{50}-Ni_{50}$ shape memory alloy and matrix of it is epoxy resin(Araldite B41, Hardner HT903. Ciba Geigy), its adhesive and optical sensitivity are very excellent. It was assured that the composite material could be used as model material of photoelastic experiment for intelligent materials or structures. In this research, the composite material with shape memory function is used as model material of photoelastic experiment. Photoelastic experimental hybrid method is developed in this research, it is assured that it is useful on the obtaining stress intensity factor and the separation of stress components from only isochromatic data. The measuring method of stress intensity factor of intelligent material by photoelastic experiment is introduced. In the mode I state, we can know that stress intensity factors are decreased more than 50% of stress intensity factor of room temperature when temperature of fiber is greater than 4$0^{\circ}C$, prestrain greater than 5% and fiber volume ratio greater than 0.42% and that stress intensity factors are decreased by 100% when fiber volume ratio is greater than 0.84%, prestrain greater than 5% and temperature greater than 60 $^{\circ}C$.

경도인지장애 노인의 인지향상 프로그램 중재효과 (The Intervention Effect of Cognitive Improvement Program for Elderly with Mild Cognitive Impairment)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the effects of a group cognitive improvement program on cognitive function, depression and self-esteem in elderly individuals with mild cognitive impairment. Methods: This was an experimental study that employed a pre-post design of a non-equivalence control group. The subjects were 52 elderly people with mild cognitive impairment, 25 of whom were assigned to the experimental group and 27 to the control group. The program was conducted for a total of 12 sessions for 60 minutes each. Data were analyzed using the ${\chi}2-test$, Fisher's exact test, and Independent t-test with the SPSS 20.0 program. Results: After the intervention, the group who participated showed improvement in all areas of cognitive function based on MMSE-KC (F=26.37, p.<0.001), the Rey Complex Figure Test: copy (F=20.66, p.<0.001), Immediate memory of Seoul Verbal Learning Test-Elderly's version (F=29.68, p.<0.001), delayed memory (F=45.79 p.<0.001), memory recall (F=28.97, p.<0.001), Forward of Digit Span Test (F=9.25, p=.004), backward (F=8.33, p.=0.006), language comprehension (F=13.42, p.<0.001), and digit symbol coding (F=17.74, p.<0.001) relative to the control group. Moreover depression (F=24.09, p.<0.001) was decreased in program participants, whereas self-esteem (F=40.24, p.<0.001) was increased. Conclusion: The program could be a useful intervention because the results show that the group cognitive improvement program has a significant effect on cognitive function, depression and self-esteem in elderly with mild cognitive impairment.

10대 청소년의 주의력과 기억능력에 미치는 정상기압 산소흡입 효과 (NORMOBARIC OXYGEN($O_2$) ADMINISTRATION EFFECT ON ATTENTION AND MEMORY FUNCTION IN TEENAGE ADOLESCENTS)

  • 목 적:독일의 신경심리학자인 Moss 등의 1996년에서 1999년까지의 일련의 연구들에서 정상기압의 산소공급 후 정상 성인에서의 기억능력이 뚜렷하게 호전된다는 보고가 있었다. 그러나 아직까지 10대 청소년을 대상으로 한 연구는 없는 상황이다. 이에, 본 연구팀에서는 새롭게 개발된 산소흡입장치(Oxygen administration device)를 가지고 산소흡입이 청소년의 인지능력 향상에 도움이 되는지를 알아보기 위해 실험집단-위약집단-이중맹검법으로 평가하였다. 방 법:14세에서 17세까지의 청소년 23명을 대상으로 하였다. 학급성적 백분위 20%이상 50%미만에 해당하는 중-고등학생들을 대상으로 하였고, 정신과전문의가 평가하여 특정한 정신병리가 없고, 실험에 자발적 참여의지를 보인 청소년만을 연구에 참여시켰다. 주의력평가를 위해 사용 한 검사는 스트룹(stroop) 검사와 선로잇기(trail-making)검사, 연속수행검사(continuous performance test)였고, 기억능력의 측정을 위해서는 표준화된 기억평가척도(Memory Assessment Scale:MAS)를 사용하였다. 23명의 청소년을 무작위 배정하여 12명은 주의력검사와 기억능력 검사 10분전에 5분에 걸쳐 $O_2$를 공급하였고, 11명은 대조군으로 똑같은 기기에서 $O_2$ 공급원을 제거하여, 실내공기를 흡입하는 효과를 갖도록 하였다. 실험자나 피실험자 모두 실험군과 대조군 여부를 알지 못하도록 이중맹검 디자인으로 실시하였다. 결 과:1) 주의력평가:산소흡입 전후의 평균값 차이를 윌콕슨 순위 검사(Wilcoxon Signed Rank)로 평가한 결과, 흡입 전보다 4가지 주의력 평가 소검사들에서 통계적으로 유의한 호전 양상을 보여주었고, 공기흡입 전후의 평가에서는 3가지 소검사에서 호전된 양상을 보여 주었다. 단순주의력 평가에서는 산소흡입군과 공기흡입군 모두 능력의 향상을 보였으나, 간섭이 있는 주의력 검사에서는 산소흡입군만이 유의한 호전을 보였다. 또한 처치 전후의 변화율((치료후값-치료전값)/치료전값 *100)을 계산하여, 산소군과 공기군 간의 통계적 유의성을 평가한 결과, 공기 흡입군에 비해 산소흡입군이 스트룹 검사의 간섭시행, 그리고, 선로잇기검사의 B부분의 수행에서 유의한 차이를 보여, 산소흡입이 전두엽의 수행능력과 관련된 주의력의 호전에 보다 유의한 기여를 할 가능성이 있음을 보여주었다. 2) 기억능력평가:16가지의 기억능력 평가 도구 소척도값 중에서, 산소흡입군은 흡입 전에 비해 11개의 소검사 항목들에서 보다 우수한 수행을 보여 주었고, 공기흡입군은 7개 영역에서 유의한 호전이 있었다. 처치전후의 각 소척도 값의 변화율을 계산하여, 산소군과 공기군 간의 통계적 유의성을 평가한 결과, 단기기억소척도의 점수에서만, 두 군간에 유의한 통계적 차이가 발견되었다. 결 론:주의력과 기억능력에 미치는 산소효과를 검증하기 위해, 대조군비교-이중맹검 임상실험을 실시하여, 반복검사로 인한 효과, 위약효과 등을 배제하였다. 그 결과 양쪽 검사 모두에서 어느 정도의 반복검사 및 위약효과가 확인되었으나, 주의력에서는 전두엽의 실행능력(executive function)과 관련되는 검사들에서 산소흡입이 특이한 효과를 보여준다는 것이 확인되었고, 기억능력에서는 단기기억능력 평가에서 산소흡입군이 대조군보다 유의한 효과를 보여주는 것으로 평가되었다. 이러한 연구결과는 산소흡입이 전두엽과 관련된 수행능력, 작동기억능력 향상에 도움이 될 가능성이 있음을 시사하는 결과라고 생각된다.

육미지황탕가미방에 의한 흰쥐 기억력 향상과 관련된 Hippocampus 부위의 특이 유전자 발현에 대한 연구 (Effect of Memory-enhancing Herbal Extract (YMT_02) on Modulating Pentraxin, PEP-19 and Transthyretin gene Expression in Rat Hippocampus)

  • The herbal extract(YMT_02) is a modified extracts from Yukmijihwang-tang(YMJ) to promote memory-enhancing. The YMJ extracts has been widely used as replenishing yin and tonifying the kidneys herbal medicine for hundred years ia Asian countries. The purpose of this study is to: 1) quantitatively evaluate the memory-enhancing effect of YMT_02 by passive avoidance test, 2) statistical evaluation of candidate gene expression (pentraxin. PEP-19, transthyretin) in rat hippocampus. The hippocampi of YMT_02 and control group were dissected and mRNA was further purified. After synthesizing cDNA using oligo-dT primer, the cDNA were applied to Real Time PCR. The results were as follows : 1) passive avoidance test showed enhancing memory retentin by YMT_02 treatment, 2) expression of pentraxin, that accelerate degenerating of neuronal cell, was significantly decreased, 3) the mRNA of genes that has been known to be associated with protecting neuronal cell degeneration, such as PEP-19 and transthyretin, were significantly increased upon YMT_02 treatment. From above results, the administration of YMT_02 which tonify the function of Kidneys could enhance the ability of memory and learning. In addition, the administration of YMT_02 enhance memory retention through modulating particular gene (pentraxin, PEP-19, transthyretin) expressions in hippocampu.

지역사회기반 인지자극 프로그램이 경도인지장애 노인의 인지기능과 주관적 기억에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Community-Based Cognitive Stimulation Program on Cognitive Fincion and Subject Memory in the Elderly with Mild Cognitive Impairment)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 지역사회 기반 인지자극 프로그램이 경도인지장애 노인의 인지기능과 주관적 기억에 미치는 영향을 조사하는 것이다. 경기도 소재 G시 D치매안심센터에서 2021년 4월부터 2021년 8월까지 3개월 이상 쉼터 프로그램에 참여하는 이용자 중 연구의 목적을 이해하고 참여에 동의한 15명으로 선정하여 적용하였다. 프로그램은 3 개월 동안 주 3회 총 36회 인지자극프로그램으로 구성하여 진행되었다. 인지자극프로그램은 지남력 강화, 인지훈련, 회상과 음악, 미술, 신체 놀이 등 다양한 활동으로 인지 기능을 자극하고, 사회기능 향상 목적으로 동용. 민요, 타악기, 국민체조, 춤, 게임, 전래놀이 등으로 구성되었다. 인지자극 프로그램 진행한 결과 인지기능은 인지자극프로그램 실시 전 평균이 26.33점에서 실시 후 평균이 28.46점으로 2.13점 증가 하였고, 통계적으로도 유의한 결과가 나왔다(p=0.000). 주관적 기억은 인지자극프로그램 실시 전 평균이 7.13점에서 실시 후 평균이 3.60점으로 3.53점 감소 하였고, 통계적으로도 유의한 결과가 나왔다(p=0.000). 이 결과를 통해 경도인지장애 노인에게 인지자극프로그램이 효과가 있다고 확인할 수 있다. 치매로 인한 비용 부담으로 이어지고 있으며 특히나 인지기능 저하는 노인의 삶의 질이 떨어지고 그로인한 다양한 부담을 가져온다. 앞으로 다양한 환경에 적용되는 인지자극프로그램 연구가 필요하다.
