This text was analyzed and investigated the distribution of medicinal plants in Cheongoksan Bonghwagun Korea, in order to search the medicinal resources that are used in modern medicine. Medicinal plants of the Korean Pharmacopoeia (10th edition) distributed in Cheongoksan Bonghwagun were consisted of 93 taxa ; 82 species, 10 varieties, 1 forma of 79 genus, 50 families. In medicinal plants of the Korean Pharmacopoeia, rate of native species and exotic species was 89.2% (83 taxa) and 10.8% (10 taxa) respectively. Family classification was the most of compositae of 8 taxa, and life form classification was most of herb of hemicryptophyte species. The classification by using parts were 34 taxa of root use and the classification of efficacy utilization was 24 taxa of Cheongyeolyak (heat-clearing drug) use.
The medicinal plants used traditional medicines are classified into two groups. The first group is formulary medicine which have been recorded on authorized books, for example, kampo drug in Japan. The second group is the fork medicines. These medicinal plants production is 165 billion yen(about 1.5 billion dollar) and which rate to to total pharmaceutical production is about 3% in 1990. The number of important medicinal plants treated in the market is 124 herbs from the total 364 herbs for kampo durgs(210 preparations kampo durgs) and other propritetary drugs (agents for common cold, laxatives, gastrointestional and so on). The production of the Ginseng and Bupleurum Root are increased about ten times in last twelve years(1976 or 1988). The 80% of these medicinal plants are imported from China, Korea and Southern Asian countries. Then the Pharmaceutical Affairs Bureau of Ministry of Health and Welfare published "The Guideline of Medicinal Plant for Cultivation" for a quality control and a stabilization supply of 80 herbs. The first part(1992) of the guideline reported 5 herbs; Coptis Rhizome, Rehmannia Root, Bupleur, Root, Japanese Angelica Root and Rhubarb, The next part will be published following 5herbs; Cnidium Rhizome, Safflower, Coix seed and Fruiet, Platicodon Root and Zedoary.
This study was carried out to survey the vascular plants in 6 regions including around Hopo-Bridge of Yangsan region at waterfronts of Nakdong river, Korea. Distributed plants were surveyed from April to November, 2011. The vascular plants in 6 regions (around Mulgeum-chuisujang, Mulgeum-station, Jeungsan-ri, Hopo-bridge, Kumoh-bridge and lower part of Yangsan-stream) were total 135 taxa of 3 divisions, 4 classes, 37 orders, 66 families, 116 genera, 114 species, 2 subspecies and 19 varieties. The most number of species is Campanulales of 14.1% in Dicotyledoneae of 81.5% among total species. Regional distribution of species is mainly around Mulgeum-chuisujang and Jeungsan-ri as 61% among total species, and other regions is in 24 ~ 44%. Ecologically, there were herbaceous plants 75% and woody plants 25%, and 9 species of aquatic plants in herbaceous plants. Medicinal (herbal) plants included in KP (The Korean Pharmacopoeia) and KHP (The Korean Herbal Pharmacopoeia) were 56 species including Platycodon grandiflorum (Jacq.) A. De Candolle, Peucedanum japonicum Thunberg and etc., and folk herb plants were 14 species including Metaplexis japonica Makino, Commelina communis Linn$\acute{e}$ and etc. among total 135 species.
The mutagenicity, antimutagenicity, and cytotoxicity of the hot water extracts of 130 medicinal plants were examined. The results obtained using authentic alkaline phosphatase activity as the growth representative of the indicator cell, E. coli PQ37, demonstrated that the extracts of 14 medicinal plants including, Forsythia koreana Nakai, showed strong toxic effect on the cell growth, however, the extracts of 22 medicinal plants, including Phlomis umbrosa Turcz., were shown to have stimulatory effect on the cell growth. The mutagenicity and antimutagenicity of the medicinal plants were screened using SOS chromotest. The mutagenic activity was detected from 36 kinds of the samples, including Forsythia koreana Nakai and Coptis japonica Nakai. On the contrary, 12 medicinal plants, including Crataegus pinnatifida Bunge, were shown to have a significant antimutagenic activity.

Objectives : The plans such as Selaginellales, Equisetales and Psilotale have been used for treatment of diseases. Therefore, we examined their effects and distributions. Methods : We examined herbalogical books and research papers which published at home and abroad. Results : 1. There were totaled to 5 genera and 33 species in Selaginellales. Equisetales, Psilotales in Korea and among them medicinal plants are 4 genera, 21 species, about 64% in total. 2. Lycopodium genus is main kind enough that it has 13 species among 33species in the Selaginellales, Equisetales, Psilotales, of which medicinal plants are 10 species. 3. The herb is the main medicinal parts of medicinal plants in the Selaginellales, Equisetales, Psilotales which is used in 21 species. 4. On the bases of nature and flavor of medicinal plants in the Selaginellales, Equisetales. Psilotales, they were classified into neutral 15 species; bitter taste 15 in the order. 5. On the bases of meridian propism of medicinal plants in the Selaginellales, Equisetales. Psilotales, they were classified into liver meridian 11 species. 6. On the bases of the properties and principal curative action, they were classified into drugs for styptic 15 species, drugs for expel wind 14, drugs for drain damp 13 in the order. 7. It has been shown that one species in the Selaginellales, Equisetales, Psilotales is toxic. Conclusion : There were totaled to 5 genera and 33species in Farinales in Korea and among them medicinal plants are 4 genera, 21 species, About 63% in total.
To evaluate the availability of Cudrania tricuspidata Bureau as a natural source of antimicrobials, the antimicrobial activity of methanol extracts of harvested parts was investigated using the paper disc diffusion method. The extracts from leaves and root bark had broad antimicrobial activity against various bacteria, including Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Listeria monocytogenes, Enterobacter aerogenes, Enterococcus faecalis, Salmonella choleraesuis subsp. choleraesuis, Vibrio vulnificus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and inhibited Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Listeria monocytogenes, agents of food poisoning especially well. The extract from ripe fruit had a very high antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus with a 20.2 mm of clear zone at 50 mg/mL sample concentration. These results indicated that Cudrania tricuspidata could be used as new source for developing natural antimicrobial agents.

One hundred sixty species among Korean medicinal plants were tested on their antioxidative potentials. Antioxidants are useful materials which could be expected into development as food preservatives, health foods, cosmetics and drugs. Korean peninsula have many potential in antioxidant source which includes various medicinal herbs. It grounded on the fact that Korean medicinal plants have been used as folk therapy for long time and still do in oriental medicine. From the study, effective free radical scavengers compared with ${\alpha}-tocopherol\;of\;13.5{\mu}g/ml\;in\;RC_{50}$ were Geranium sibiricum, Geum japonicum, Geranium nepalense subsp. thunbergii and Paulownia coreana which showed $19.3{\mu}g/ml,\;22.5{\mu}g/ml,\;23.9{\mu}g/ml,\;and\;27.2{\mu}g/ml$, respectively, Acer mono and 38 plants showed strong potential in inhibition rate on linoleic acid oxidation (above 90%). In conclusion, we expect that the selected medicinal plants must be more studied as antioxidant and then developed as many industrial materials.
This study was conducted to obtain the basic data for using the Artemisia genetic resources as a medicinal crop. 24 taxa including Artemisia capillaris Thunb. were analyzed by principal component analysis of 25 characters and cluster analysis for classification. In Principal components analysis of individuals of taxa using 25 morphological characters of reproductive organ, the first, the second, the third and the fourth components contributed 44.73%, 16.86%, 8.88%, and 7.07% of the variations, respectively. The cumulative contribution from the first to the fourth principal components was 77.56%. In cluster analysis, taxa of Artemisia L. was seperated 3 group by 25 morphological characters of reproductive organ, but it didn't completely coincident with Kitamura classification.
Decamer RAPD primers were tested on dioeceious and hermaphrodite plants of Commiphora wightii to identify sex-specific molecular markers. Sixty different random decamer primers were screened out of which only three primers were found to be associated with sex expression. A ~1,280-bp fragment from the primer OPN06 was found to be present in all the female individuals. Another primer OPN 16 produced a unique ~400-bp amplification product in only hermaphrodite individuals. The third marker, OPA20 amplified a ~1,140-bp fragment from female and hermaphrodite DNAs, but failed to do so from the male plant DNAs.
Codonopsis lanceolata (Campanulaceae) has been used in traditional medicines, as its roots contain several kinds of 3,28-bidesmosidic triterpenoid saponin with high medicinal values. In this study, we induced hairy root-derived transgenic plants of C. lanceolata and analyzed triterpenoid saponins from the leaf, stem and root. Transgenic plants were regenerated from the hairy roots via somatic embryogenesis. The saponins are lancemaside A, B and E, foetidissimoside A, and aster saponin Hb. Transgenic plants contained richer triterpenoids saponin than wild-type plants. Major saponin lancemaside A was the most abundant saponin in the stem from transgenic-plant, $4.76mg{\cdot}1^{-1}dry$ stem. These results suggest that transgenic plants of C. lanceolata could be used as medicinal materials for the production of triterpene saponins.
